Should Tuning be allowed?

Just a quick one, how will the grid for the first round of the season be determined?

EDIT: Removed the question about race length as it's already explained but I was too lazy to read it... 👍

Well, boredom kicked in so I've spent the last few hours running different circuits in the CR-Z just to see what can be expected over the course of Season 4, along with a track list I feel can provide some close and interesting racing throughout the season.

Tyres:
Management is going to be an interesting situation. SS tyres on V.Fast deg are quite a challenge. Not excessively so, but there should be scenarios where the tyres are not at their optimum. The decisions on when to pit should throw some good strategy calls, as you will find at least one of your two sets per race in a situation where deg will come into effect.

Battery:
Maybe not as much of a factor as I previously stated. In races with everyone going flat out the whole field should experience similar battery usage, but for Qualifying again strategy can have a major effect. Do you hammer the out lap with no concern over the hybrid charge and rely on the raw base pace of the car or do you cruise on the out lap where the charge of the hybrid can provide a marginal power boost at higher gears but run the risk of the front tyres losing temperature and, more importantly, grip.

Races:
This is going to be the biggest improvement (in my eyes) to the series. I know a lot of people are detractors of One-Make series but I like the fact that now there can be no excuses. Nobody can hide behind the old excuses of cars or tracks being better suited than yours. Combine that with the fact that now pack racing, albeit potentially messy, is going to be the defacto standard and that the slipstream is going to be one of the biggest weapons in a driver's arsenal and you have got a beautifully spicy season in the making.

Tracks:
If I had the decision to name the calendar these are the circuits I would nominate with each circuit having an optimum (as I would determine it to be) race distance and pit window.

Race distances have been calculated using an average lap time running as close to 20 minutes as possible (including pit stop) without exceeding. Pit windows are 33%-66% race distance. A circuit with an asterisk (*) indicates that circuit has changeable weather.

*Apricot Hill Raceway - 13laps (4-9)

Site of the 3-way finale of Season 1, Apricot Hill makes it's triumphant return as a host of a GTTCC round. A combination of elevation changes and fast-flowing sections make this a drivers favourite, combined with some slower corners that invite an overtaking attempt.

*Autumn Ring Mini - 28laps (9-19)

Short, slow and compact, Autumn Ring mini requires a good rhythm, an eye for a passing opportunity and a little sprinkling of both bravery and luck. The first time Autumn Ring has staged a GTTCC event, both fans and drivers alike are wondering what surprises this mini miracle can produce.

*Big Willow - 13laps (4-9)
A controversial subject in Season 3, the outcry of Big Willow being dropped has not gone unnoticed and now the firm fan favourite returns to GTTCC. Often hated by drivers on their first visit, Big Willow charms it's challengers with some unrelenting and unforgiving conditions. A win, podium or pole position here is ALWAYS hard-earned and well deserved.

Cape Ring Periphery - 11laps (4-7)
The return of GTTCC to the circuit that staged it's first ever round, albeit this time on a different layout. The biggest changes this time around are a longer circuit length and the introduction of the epic 360 degree right hander, which promises some high-speed thrills and spills, especially if running in a pack.

*Eiger Nordwand Short Circuit - 16laps (5-11)

Known as 'Monaco in the Mountains', Eiger Nordwand is the attempt of a GTTCC revival in Switzerland after the Season 1 Dristelen Debacle. Tight, twisty and technical, any mistakes here can bite you hard. Also, with the unique layout of the pit lane which can take up to 60 seconds to navigate, pit stops may cause chaos. A mouth-watering prospect.

*High Speed Ring - 14laps (5-9)

Another GTTCC newcomer, the High-Speed ring seems suited to the new level playing field that Season 4 offers. Fast and wide, it would be foolish not to expect high speed dogfights where slipstream is king. All expect that this will either be a monumental success or an apocalyptic catastrophe. Just make sure you've got your elbows out.

*Midfield Raceway - 14laps (5-9)

After many years in a state of disrepair, investors finally completed the renovations of the infamous Midfield Raceway. Their reward? A GTTCC event. Seen as another driver favourite, Midfield promises some great racing, much like the racing which earned it's reputation. Many expect a triumphant return for this unique figure-of-eight circuit.

Tokyo R246 - 10laps (3-7)
Often referred to as the fastest street circuit in the world, Tokyo R246 offers an obscene level of risk vs. reward. Absolute determination and ruthless aggression are required to get around this race track quickly, but overstep that mark by as much as a millimeter and be prepared to go from hero to zero in seconds.

Can you tell I'm trying to sell you on my track list?
Can you tell I want this Season to start now?

I don't see why you would have tuning in a one make season. The whole point is to have close racing and someone with more time on there hands can tune a car to different tracks. I would like to just turn up to a level playing field.
Practicing is all the tuning you should need.

reverse standings from last season, so xflow will be at the back ;)

Some people don't get much time to play GT apart from learning the track. Giving everyone the same equipment means that it's all about the drivers, and the majority here are evenly matched.

@True-blue-8 I'll get my track lists up when I'm in front of the PS3, soon as.
No worries mate :) Not running #1?

I totally agree with @DR_ingo5 and you @True-blue-8 if tuning is prohibited then it's 100% even. Completely down to the driver.
That way people that can't tune or don't have the same amount of spare time don't loose out.

I know tuning a car makes it better to drive, and makes it handle how you like it, but I'd prefer no tuning, and a level playing field.

@True-blue-8 yea I'm undecided to use #1 or #37 :D

@NinjaEvo great work there mate, very helpfull 👍

The tuning rules are currently at 8-8

Pretty sure it's 12-8 at the top?

Doesn't  2-time GTTCC CHAMPION count for 2 votes haha ;)

Shouldn't defending team champions be able to tune a car? 👍

Change my vote to no tuning .

I shall be online crz-ing as of right now if anybody is about .

Don't do it, you'll regret it. Look at the track votes, we're doomed to more pre-school race tracks, this is the last bastion of good racing (unless these guys have grown some and are prepared to outlaw Racing Wets )

True i am just going to copy whatever ninja chooses this season, even if he wants to race monaco in reverse at night in the rain ....... Gulp :nervous:

No, you don't have to do that (even if my selection is the very definition of the word EPIC) just be prepared for a season of tracks with 4 corners (Silverstone National and Tsukuba... YAY!!!)

I hated Silverstone, I was just sitting still on the straights compared to anything else, and to top it off the length of the straights out weigh the corners so much I couldn't even gain ground on the FF's!

I had a half decent race with the reverse grid, the Skyline worked the Meds really well compared with the FF and I only lost the lead on the penultimate lap. I just think it's a boring track.

Burn

Only drivers votes who are competing will count. People shouldn't vote for something that won't affect them.

lets outlaw wets ;)

Personally enjoyed Silverstone, it's a fast track

ABP
As this is a one-make season, I think we should try unusual tracks, which you would not see in a normall GTTCC season.
my plan exactly. Sarthe, Monza, eiger. now that would be fun :D

 didn't take that into account...

Yes, outlaw wets

Sarthe is a bit too long really, Mona if it's chicaneless :D

Not the best picture but here you go...

Snapshot_20150419_1.jpg

Still felt cheap considering I was 3rd out of the final corner and it just turned into a slipstream drag race...
