Honestly, the F-35 program is completely stupid. The air force should have expanded F-22 and should embrace A10. The A10 is the perfect CAS machine. Much better than stupid helicopters. F-22 can do the high-speed, high-altitude bombing as well as it can maintain its air superiority role. Use A10 for everything else.

It's cheap as hell, fuel efficient as hell, and effective as hell. A10 = subzero.
 
Its like some engineer is all like "Hey, we have this absurdly badass Gatling cannon, lets try to make it fly". So thus said engineers graced this cannon with wings and engines, then decided to throw on various guided and unguided munitions to add icing to the cake.
Sadly, politicians will be the cause of the A-10's demise, rather than any inherent flaws with the aircraft's performance. No matter how good the plane at whatever mission it does, it cannot escape politics.

IMO the coolest plane ever made, love those 30mm rounds. :sly:👍 A flying supersized gattling gun and you're riding on top if it, thats hard to beat.
