Guys should come stateside and make the GP in NJ amusing. Won't be able to camp out though in Hudson County. Epic pictures I'm sure you guys had a blast.

GTPLANET T-SHIRTS?!?!?! Cool!! Didn't see you guys though :(

(Where can I buy these tshirts? :D Then I know what I wear next year!)

I had them made just for attendees. I'll happily open orders again next year for those who are going again - and I suppose they'll be sold on the condition of wearing them in the pitlane on Friday

Just PM me closer to the time.

Fantastic pictures guys thanks for the sharing; some of Roo's are  (the Porsche qualifying one at night especially). The #42 at sunset is also a beaut GTP_Ingram.

This one got me curious. Do you remember why those marshals are standing in a un-protected area? Did something happen there, were the cars lapping under yellow flags, or some other reason for this?

Safety car period after the Davidson Toyota accident at that corner.

Nice write up, awesome pictures, great design on the T-shirts Famine 👍

Looks like you guys had your blast there.

Hot dog avec frite dans une bagette

boulette avec frites dans une baguette is way more tasty ;)

Righty, finally got around to editing and uploading a few pics. More will follow in time, but this is all I could be bothered with now!

Recommend you turn your screen brightness up a bit for the night shots. I have my brightness down usually to spare my eyes, but the night shots definitely work better with it turned up!

On the friday...

A trip to the museum. They have models:

...and in the pits, they have crazy Dutch people!

...and in the campsite, they have damp Porsches:

...and elsewhere, they have damp Audis:

Some Saturday morning action:

And a flypast before the race on Saturday:

Much better weather for the race itself

Heading into dusk...

...and finally night

And finally, morning broke:

Awesome shot (and the rest of the photos are pretty good too). Any idea why he had the cabin light on? Also where the numbers reflective or did they have a light source behind them?

Thanks.

Expect the cabin light was for dramatic effect at night, though I could be mistaken. The photo makes it look brighter than it was - I assume, a bit like red light, that purple light isn't too distracting for the driver.

And the numbers on all cars were backlit :)

The cabin lights are black lights if i recall right. At Daytona the commentators were talking about it because you can see, but there is no glare like a normal light.

I knew those looked good when you showed me on the camera but fullsize they're bang on. I prefer the Porsche night shot to the Ferrari one because of the sharpness on the 911 - I know how difficult it was to achieve that. Well done sir.

:ouch: for me on the second one though. If I'd hung about for another half hour I could've had a go at that - it was a shot I had in mind but wasn't quite sure how I was going to get it. I doubt I could have matched yours though. Still, there's always next year!

How do you get those shots of lights streaking into the night? I guess some kind of exposure or camera frame rate? (I'm a total noob with these things...)

Exposure. I chose the narrowest aperture (the size of the hole the light is allowed through - O would be a wider aperture/lower f number, o would be a narrower aperture/higher f number; the narrower the hole, the less light can get through in a given length of time) I could - f32 in this case - and set the shutter to open for a long period of time, in this case 15 seconds. With the camera on a tripod and a remote shutter in my hand, so the camera didn't move whilst the shutter was open, the cars drive past too quickly for the camera to 'see' them - it only picks up the light they leave behind.

That light trail image has a bit of a story behind it: I had literally finished setting the camera up for the shot, with remote shutter in hand. I look round to see when a group of cars would be coming past and the first thing I see is contact between the #3 Audi and the #70 Corvette, which results in the Audi going sideways into the gravel and the Corvette spinning:

Unfortunately for me, because I had all the settings in place for a long exposure, I had to manually reset everything in order to get some pictures of the incident - by which time the Corvette had gone and the Audi was being attended to by the marshalls. The only conclusion I can draw from this is that Romain Dumas was maximum trolling.

Thanks chap. You'll not be surprised to hear that there's literally only one or two more of the night shots that came out sharp from another couple of hundred I actually took! Had to edit out a lot of noise too which is why the shots are so dark and screen brightness is required.

Myself and Alex were lucky with those ones. We'd woken up 30 mins later than intended and had to then walk a few miles to get to that point! Only stayed briefly on the start/finish to get a few snaps, and walked around the first corner just in time to catch the sunrise.

Happily I got a good half dozen or so sunrise shots all of similar quality.

Still, there's always next year!

Exactly!
