Classy, beautifully proportioned, but I don't find it drop-dead gorgeous. Still doesn't take away it's Sub-Zero vote. Again wherever you pull over you'll look cool, whoever you are. The only problem is sky high price...

Achingly, stunningly gorgeous. BMW lost money on each one, but everyone who saw them would remember who built them. Before the 507, nobody in America knew what BMW was. After it, nobody could forget.

Bonus points: unstupid rear suspension. (300SL - swing, baby!)

Double bonus points: Ursula Andress

Subzero.

It's an amazing looking convertible sports car from the 50's that anyone would look cool in.

Sub Zero

I actually like the looks better than the droptop SL or the Ace.

Much cleaner lines, Nicer fender styling, and that grille is simply drop-dead gorgeous.

Shame BMW can't make grilles that shapely anymore. Too addicted to brand continuation to take any liberties with the current pig nostrils.

I think it's quite plain looking. The 300SL, the Healey 100/6, the AC Ace and the Ferrari 250 GT Cabs, all of the same era, are much more stylish.

Please visit a better optometrist.

In all seriousness, I love how much more slender the BMW looks than any of its contemporaries. It makes the 300SL and Ace look like big bellied cows next to a leopard.

This car is definitely cool. It's the best looking of its kind. Of those contemporaneous convertibles, I go on looks with:

1) BMW 507
2) AC Ace
3) Ferrari 250 GT
4) Austin-Healey 100/6
5) Mercedes-Benz 300 SL

It's not to say that the 300 SL is ugly, not at all, but I've never felt it to be quite as falling-over-to-praise-it good looking as everyone says it is. Same goes for the Jaguar E-Type.

I rate the Jag. The 300SL, in hardtop form, it's nice. Not as lithe and lovely as the E-Type or 507, but it's got a certain Bauhausian gravitas.

Or was that Gothic?

92.4% think this is either sub or cool. Can't really complain about that.

Would have to be one of the coolest BMWs ever, of which I think there are many, I don't particularly like the look of it, but roadster BMWs, there's something special about them.

Graf Coertz von Albrecht at his finest hour, he also did the 2000GT and 240Z btw.
There's differing opinions on his involvement with the design of the 240Z. Some say he didn't actually pen the design.

Regardless of whether he did or didn't, he was still a fantastic designer. (imo)

[edit]

The Nissan A550X was very close to the 240Z, though, and it appears Goertz did lead that particular design team.
