Neither hippy or hipster have been near one of these in years. Perhaps I'm jaded over these due to living next door to one on one side and another 3 doors down the other side. Neither have run under their own steam for five or more years. Neither will ever do so again. They're growing alge from the top down and rust from the bottom upwards. They're owned by normal working families who like the idea of the freedom they idealistically offer but don't have the time or money to get them running reliably again. Driveways all across the country are littered the same way. I imagine they're kept because the owners think 'they'll be worth something, one day' - yet every year they get left standing, the less value rusts or rots away. The only spur-of-the-moment weekends by the coasts these families will go on will be benind the wheel of the families Laguna estate with a tent in the boot.
Splitties are owned by surfing bankers or VW enthusiasts who only use them to travel to and from dub shows and T3's live in scrap yards. T4/5's are the only ones used in the manner that T2 owners drempt about when they bought them.
