Stats:
Production: 1967
Style: 2-door coupe
Engine: 428 ci/7.0L naturally aspirated OHV V8 (rated 335 SAE gross HP & 420 lb-ft, may have been underrated but I have nothing to back that up)
Transmission: 3-speed automatic, 4-speed manual
Layout: Front-engine, Rear-drive
Related: Ford Mustang, Shelby GT350

My take? Pretty sub-zero.

Not one of those modern-day Shelby badge-jobs designed merely to separate the very rich from their money... so not seriously uncool.

Not a 350H, so not sub-zero.

Eh... cool. With or without an "Eleanor" conversion.

Old Mustangs are the kinds of cars that pictures aren't that kind to in my view. From some picture angles they even look ugly. But when one drives past, be it a GT500 or even a standard V8 model...there's no resisting turning the head to look at it.

Plus the GT500 has stripes. A very high Cool.

Just scrapes a Sub-Zero.

You will never look as cool as you fell, stepping out of a classic American muscle car, and if I owned one (which I would love to) this would always bug me.

Driving a loud, old muscle car with white stripes everywhere (only broken up by even more uncool lettering) and the having to constantly explain the difference between a Shelby and a Mustang, or a GT350 and GT500, or an Eleanor and a Shelby to confused onlookers is seriously uncool.

Old Mustangs make you look like a huge tool, guys.

This car has been ruined for me by people calling it Eleanor. Also not being a fan of older American cars knocks it down for me too. I'm sure it's a good car for its day, but in today's world I don't think it's cool.

That's what I'd say makes it cool. The less you know about muscle cars, the cooler you inherently are (to some extent).

Glad 67 was picked cause 67-68 are my favorite years for this car after that I think they were ugly (69-70 not talking about modern GT500). Always a dream car of mine, but is beat out by the Boss 302/Boss 429 as well as the Mustang GT 2+2 390. So...yeah I'm on the border of cool and sub zero, I think Shelby's name is pushing me toward SZ but I'll sit on it before I vote.

Shelby GT Mustangs are cooler than Boss Mustangs because they have nice round numbers like 350 or 500 at the ends of their names rather than random numbers like 302 or 429. People are much less likely to think those numbers mean something specific as a result.

It's the lottery winner's muscle car. They get a lot of money and buy a load of cars, which always includes something gaudy (because they're a tasteless idiot) and a Ferrari (idem). Then they get to the muscle car and go for a Mustang (which isn't one) because it's the only one they've heard of.

I'd love just one of them to buy a Mercury Cougar instead, but noooooo.

Yeah most people think the S on various cars over the years meant supercar package or something wacky, the average car owner is just that...average. I wouldn't expect them to think if the 302 or 429 means displacement, hell I don't expect them to know what displacement even means.

I personally though (since that's what it is about), think the Boss 429 for example was a much better cars than the GT500 and those who modernize classics make them even better. The 390 to me will always be the greatest mustang and if you don't know why then you shouldn't be talking about classic mustangs :sly:

Cool.

Though that's mainly down to the regular Mustang element - it looks good to the average Joe in the street, and enthusiasts will appreciate it too.

Prevented from a S-Z rating because of the aforementioned Eleanor factor (I'll scream if I see another turned into one of those monstrosities) and Zenith's comment about having to explain why yours has got stripes and letters everywhere.

In other words, cool, but not as cool as a regular, unmolested V8.

Random numbers? You don't know a damn about anything related to the story of the cars you're talking about.

Anyway, sub-zero for this thing. And I normally wouldn't give such a rating to a Mustang as I don't really like them, but the 67 Shelby was the car in which Shelby got the looks just right without keeping the car too sedate (65-66) or going over the top (68 onwards, my god is the 68 Shelby's nose ugly as spitting in church), and of course, it had the performance to back it up, including the oh-so-rare option of a 427 side-oiler.

Also, cue in the unavoidable Gunsmith Cats reference.

The plot of the remake was a million times better than the original. The original was a grindcore horror movie for car lovers. Worth watching once, just to say you've watched it, but there's nothing really to go back to. The remake was cheesy (complete with plot-holes), goofy, holly-woody and had Nicolas Cage in one of his less sucktacular performances. Worth watching two or three times if there's nothing else on.

I was vacillating between cool and seriously un- on this one. Went for "cool" simply because it's still a Mustang and still pretty, despite the stripes and hood pins and the multiplicity of fake side scoops and vents...

errh... now I'm starting to change my mind...

See, the GT350H for me would be sub-zero. Because rental car.

I'm fully aware that the numbers after the word boss refer to the engine displacement in cubic inches, whatever the hell one of those is, but 99% of people wont be.

Solid cool, that was the best year for taillights apart from the standard '67.

Plus the the lying engine specs would make for some pretty big surprises.

Well, I'm not a fan of the Shelby Mustangs. Overdone colors, bodykits, and general nonsense that doesn't scream cool. The Shelby gets recognition because of the name ahead of it, and the throngs of idiots obsessing over it for all the wrong reasons, well, that's more than enough problems there as well. There are cooler Mustangs, that's for damn sure.

So, a solid meh from me. There are merits, but not many of them get my mostly GM powered heart racing.
