Saved from seriously uncool because it piques the curiosity as a rarely-seen and modestly stylish classic sedan.

I agree with daan, that part would makes this cool in my book.

How so? This car looks like it would fit right in with something that came out in the '70s. Looks very American to me except the mirrors.

And I suppose you're now going to tell me that this was based on a Ford?

Only thing keeping it from Sub-Zero

It's a mundane 70's Japanese sedan with lots of gaudy trim, awkward proportions, and an awkward name.
However, it was the patrol car of choice for the cops on the classic 80's drama Seibu Keisatsu. The amount of hilarious car chases this car has starred in allows it to sneak out of the uncool zone. 'Meh' it is.

Really Its only about ten inches or so shorter and about 5 inches narrower than a late '60s Dart. That is NOT that big a difference.

In my opinion it is a big difference, especially when you consider a late '60s Dodge Dart is considered a compact. Other mid to large american sedans of the time will make this cedric look small.

What's that make a Mustang then? A smart car?

$5 says if you park two cars side by side you would not be able to tell that size difference by eye alone .

Uncool, but not disastrously so. It's alright I guess. It seems vaguely interesting somehow, but it's so dorky looking I can't in good conscious call it cool.

I would be able to tell easily by eye, but we don't have any way of proving that do we.
If you put a cedric in with a bunch of american mid to full size sedans (as I imagined in this imaginary car show with american similar styled sedans of the era and a cedric parked in among them), it would be obviously smaller looking.
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree, there's not much point in taking this thread off topic any longer over this hypothetical situation.

Cedric, Frederick, John, Paul, Kobiyashi .... whatever. Pick a name, it has no bearing on the coolness of this upscale form of Japanese transportation for the era it was in. It served it's purpose well.

A very solid cool.

You couldn't tell that a car almost a foot shorter and almost half a foot narrower wasn't smaller by eye alone if they were parked side by side? I'd get those eyes checked if I were you...

It's cool, but it looks fairly similar to just about anything else out of Japan from that time period.

With about an hour to go, I voted uncool. In the end it's just a slow, mediocre sedan with smallish engines. Properly modified, it can be cool, but stock, it's sort of like a Chrysler New Yorker to me. (Although the NY would pobably be even less cool).

EDIT: I derped. Poll doesn't close until tomorrow night.

If I could build one of these, it would have SR20VET in it (RB26DETT would be a bit much), 5-speed, flared fenders, stripped-out interior, and I would call it the Nissan Cedric the Entertainer.

I'm thinking more of a track/drift car, not a powerhouse.

You could still do that kind of thing with the specs I posted. 400-500 HP will knock the tail loose easily.
SBF would be even better :sly:

300 horsepower would probably be enough to get the rear to kick out. Lot of a work though. Literally everything needs to be changed. From the rear end, to the motor and trans to the radiator and every crossmember, bracket, suspension, support, mount, and every nut and bolt you can think off. Not practical but would be cool as hell.
