I'm not a big BMW fan for a variety of reasons, the only car from the manufacture that I'd give an SZ is the E39 M5 (which I did). This though...due to it's history and for what it is I'd give it a meh rather than a lower grade. I just never could care for it too much and BMW didn't really appeal to me outside the M1 (later than this) or the E9 CSL around the same time as this. Those two are cool everything else pretty much from BMW is meh or lower.

It's ugly.

And not in that quintessential 70's way, as in bell-bottoms and afros. It's just ugly. Even with the 70's stripes, flares and skirts. An Alfa Junior has twenty times the sex appeal. Hell, a Ford Escort Mexico has ten times the sex appeal.

It's also a car that has a pretty bad reputation. Word is journalists crashed a bunch of them during the launch. Too much torque, not enough grip, I guess. And that's saying something, since it doesn't really have all that much torque or power.

I bet you can see where this one is going.

A guy brought one to a local super car club shoot. It was an ex-rally works car that he spent a ridiculous sum of money importing, converting to road spec and restoring. And we all (including Ferrari and Lamborghini owners) gathered around it like goggling little children meeting (insert ridiculously sexy supermodel name here) for the first time.

Sub-zero.

Solid cool.

It's a classic car which is immediately a bonus, and a very rare sighting too (even regular 1602s and 2002s) which also helps. Would encourage the pleasant "ooh" reaction in passers-by even from those who don't know what it is. For petrolheads, it has the benefits of being rare (again), fun to drive, and technologically advanced for its day.

I have a feeling that when it was first introduced it was a seriously uncool car driven by "BMW drivers." But today? Sub Zero. Those wheel arches, dat chin spoiler, and dem turbo badges. So ridiculous. So awesome.

A BMW that doesn't automatically make you a Travelling Wave Amplifier Tube when driving. Cool.

Cool. It's something that would get the right kind of attention if you drove it down the street. It's always been a little on the overrated side for me, which prevented me from going sub-zero.

It's a geeky little dork-mobile at first glance. If I was voting based purely on looks, this would be seriously uncool. However...there's a lot of history behind it. It's a solid Cool.

A pretty funky lil' BMW. Not my favorite, but, still cool nevertheless.

Sub-zero, seen a few in real life and they just have that look. 2002s are stupidly cool, in this instance stripes and stickers don't make a car look tacky but set if off brilliantly.

Everybody loves a classic car and every man will envy the driver if they see one.

Went a bit over the top and voted for Sub-zero on the poll, mainly because of its importance towards the turbocharged engine. However I think that looking back on it it does only warrant a cool. A high level cool at that, though.

Boy do I love this car. BMW 2002's are fantastic up on mountain roads. Unfortunately you'll look like a total geek while you're doing it in this tiny thing.

Seriously Uncool.

Cool. Funky little BMW. However, that 170hp was something none of them reached.

Still fun to wait for that turbo to kick in and point the car in a random direction.

Well, since I nominated it, here's my take... Sub zero.

Yes, it's true that I am a massive BMW enthusiast, I believe in internet land that makes me a fanboy, I'm okay with that :D

This car looks about perfect to me, it's a clean, compact, and simple design that embodies all the styling cues I like about BMW's. It 'brawny' enough, thanks to the arches and air dam, to overcome the slightly delicate look cars of that era had. At the same time it's cute enough that a kitten loving vegan female probably wouldn't think you were a complete tool for driving it - something that probably can't be said for more recent performance BMWs!

From a performance point of view it's an odd one, the immense Turbo...

...Lag made it tricky and dangerous to extract performance from, and it lacks one of the things that I do love BMWs for, a NA inline 6. But at the same time it was an oddball which gives it some character in my opinion.

OBRUT power!!!

I love this car.

Old little BMW that's now become kind of quirky. Cool.
