Really? I thought holden was just moving to asia somewhere? Anyway, its up to you whether or not you like the company, but i honestly don't. Its not just for the reasons i have given, there are others, but thats another story.
Okay, so it turns out you don't really pay that much attention to the Australian car industry.
While the Holden brand name will continue from 2017 (when the Elizabeth plant shuts), all of the models will be outsourced. In other words, all of Holden's lineup is going to be imported from overseas. Similarly the Commodore nameplate is going to continue, but it's going to be a rebadged imported vehicle. Same story with the Ford Falcon and Territory which will finish up a year earlier in 2016.
Just in case you weren't aware, Australia currently only mass produces four vehicles. The Ford Falcon and Territory, and the Holden Commodore and Cruze (though this is only really assembled in Australia; the Cruze is actually from South Korea). The rest of Ford and Holden's lineup comes from countries like Thailand (Ford Fiesta, base model Ford Focus', Holden Colorado), India (Ford EcoSport), South Korea (Holden Captiva, Holden Barina), etc. etc. because unlike before it's considerably cheaper to manufacture those vehicles in those countries and import them.
Part of the reason why local manufacturing is shutting down is because it's becoming too expensive for Ford AU and Holden to manufacture and be competitive with all the imports, most of it is because as I stated earlier, Australians are now buying more and more small cars and SUVs.
Also for the record while I respect Holden and Ford, I don't like or dislike them. If the brands themselves came up on the Cool Wall they'd end up with a resounding "Meh." Possibly Uncool for Holden because of bogan connotations and a low Cool for Ford for producing the turbocharged Barra straight-6, easily one of the best engines we've ever had.
