There's a heck of a lot more than an air filter and grill on that car. $15,000 more? I don't know about that. But if that car in the picture is the one in question, I see hood, wheels, suspension, paint (mostly decals), cosmetic add-ons, and brakes are not stock, plus more we can't see I'm sure.
I know, but it's the only Shelby product I can think of that fits his criteria. Though, I honestly think Tornado is just exaggerating.

The fact that an American car managed to to get 175hp from only 2.2l should make it cool!

But it doesn't...

Uncool if it was the OMNI GLH it would be cool.

And let us not forget that this car stemmed from the fastest car the world has ever seen.

The Shelby GT-H rental car.

I rented on in Vegas in '08 That car was way more fun than a Automatic should be. I loved it and have wanted a Shelby GT since.

The Shelby GT consisted of an ECU flash, a cold air intake, a free flow exhaust and stiffer shocks and anti rollbars. For this Shelby charged $11,000 for less than $3000 in parts, and no dealer in the country would let one out the door without some options and surcharge. In essence, it converted your Mustang GT into an imperceptibly faster Mustang GT with stickers on it.

In comparison, Shelby's work with Chrysler was on the bleeding edge of what Chrysler was developing in the 1980s; and Shelby actually had something to do with it most of the time. The Shelby Charger got substantially higher output normally aspirated engines years before any other Chrysler model got anything similar and somewhat extensive suspension work to go with it, and Shelby was cobbling together more advanced versions of Chrysler's turbo engines similarly in advance (though Chrysler eventually overtook Shelby on that front by the end of the decade) to put in cars that started out with half the horsepower.
So why is the economy car that Shelby put substantial development work into to make it pretty close to the fastest American car on the market worse than the car where someone at Ford thumbed through the Ford Racing catalogue and shipped some parts they could make a huge profit on without any effort to Shelby to install?

You keep your facts and logic to yourself, boy! The 'Stang is a muscle car with a V8 and better than an econmy car any day of the week.

Ugly little car. Hard to understand why Shelby even chose to associate themselves with it. Uncool.
