Cool, Undone abit by the tuner scene (although it looks epic sometimes at the right hands)

but a legendary car even my non car friends know it.

Eh. Not been a big fan of this generation of Supra. Especially compared to the Mk3 Supra or other Japanese sports cars of the time.

That said, I always thought it had one of the best profiles of any 90s coupe coupled with a rather nice straight-six. Shame it's been such a popular base for questionable mods over the years, and the sort of drivers that are associated with them.

Also, turbocharging has never been a factor whenever I vote on what's cool or not. This is no exception.

One of my favorite designs from the 90's. It's really nice somewhere between stock & tuned.

random pic I linked here before.....

meh because of the fanbase. Otherwise it might be cool. The near mythical status keeps the prices far too high and there isn't a single one left untouched probably. Probably is a great car, but I've never been interested. You can't buy a Supra without buying yourself into the scene, and that's not for me. It's rare to see the word "supra" without "single turbo" or the name of the turbo itself in close proximity, to the point where the car itself is merely a vehicle to carry the turbocharger of choice. They might as well call it the Toyota T88 or T51R or whatever the popular turbo of this week is. 62-66 maybe. I don't know. I say this because the car is overwhelmingly defined by it's engine, and the engine is overwhelmingly defined by it's turbocharger to the point where you are effectively driving a turbocharger with wheels on it. Uncool.

Just for something different:

ITB setup on a 3 liter inline six, the big bad 2jz. 175whp. A mildly warmed over 30 year old 13b could reproduce those numbers with an engine 1/4 the size and 1/3 the weight.

I've always loved the MkIV Supra. It's one of those cars that you look up to as a kid; partiulary for me cause I grew up playing Need For Speed and The Fast And The Furious. There was always a Supra some where in the picture and for that I think it's cool. But the modified ones, the proper ones, are Sub Zero.

I've only seen a select few of these in real life, most of them modified (tastefully, thankfully). The car we are voting on is the standard one, so my voting choice goes accordingly:

Cool. A mid 90s superhero which have been priced to match it's status. That helps itself in way, as it makes it not as obtainable to the teens just buying their first cars. If I were to see an unmolested Supra on the road today, I'd call it cool. I mean, it's a great design with a great engine, but you can see that it was made in the 90s, as IMO, the looks are a bit bland. I'm also not keen on the interior either, but, I'd still have one in a heart beat.

Hmm... I think our views of 90s car design is kind of at its nadir about now. I think car design goes like that. It starts out new and interesting, becomes old and bland, and then finally winds up being classic.

I've really noticed opinions of 80s car design change to become a lot more positive in recent years, I think the same will happen to 90s design, and when that happens, this will be one of the standouts.

Depending on the person, that can be a good thing though.

I myself was first exposed to Skylines, Supras, GTOs and the like thanks to GT1. In fact, because I was only a small child, it was my first real exposure to any car culture at all. Had I not played GT1, and read all of the information on the car pages, my love for automobiles might not have developed so much.

I'm sure most of us learned about cars through Gran Turismo. What I'm talking about is the kid that thinks they're going to be a tuning go because they "know what they are doing" in GT or that talks in chassis or engine codes in an attempt to sound like they know what they are talking about.

I agree, I have adored this car ever since I was an impressionable 8 year old.

 Sub-Zero

This would be uncool even if the tuner crowd didn't latch onto it like a tick.

It's a bargain sports car shaped like a jelly bean.

Seriously uncool.

So are people judging this car on the base model(s) in the OP, or tuned versions? I rated it on bone stock, seems a little pointless otherwise.

One of the best tuned Supra from Japan, Power House Amuse Supra :

Looks simple and neat, but tremendous potential :

IMO, Supra is one of the best 90's FR Turbo cars :D with a very solid 2JZ engine.

In stock form, it's wonderful.

Unfortunately most owners think they can "improve" it until it looks like some poorly painted plastic & chrome mutant that can't go over speed bumps.

For that, it gets a meh.

Funny everyone mentions tacky body kits on them when all the modified ones around here have high hp and stock bodies. It must be a regional thing.

In racing games, this car was always a "meh" to me. But in reality, it is still awesome. I vote cool.

I can't even remember the last time I saw one with a body kit. I've seen them, but nearly all I see on streets are stock, or near-stock on the outside.

Gets a cool from me. Even with the gigantic potential of the engine & one of the best platforms for drag racing, nothing can really excuse the fact it was a bit of a pig back in its glory days. Well, that & every owner thinks his is worth big money. Only the mint, untouched examples are the ones holding strong resale values & those owners know it.

Meh, rounded out. And that's the tuner crowd notwithstanding as I usually refer to a stock vehicle with these.

Cool, for the powertrain and the rather effortless reliability. Plus they're cheap. Much cheaper than Skyline GT-Rs.

Uncool though for the looks. The back end's alright, even with the giant swoopy spoiler but the front, wheels and side don't really seem to do it justice.

I wouldn't kick it out of the garage but I don't think I'd buy one if I had the opportunity and the money, so meh.

'Cool' only because they make rip roarin' drag cars. The Supra line was one of the few Toyota's
I actually respect and would own. Liftback GT anyone? But that's for another thread.

I'm along those lines in terms of how I feel about them, the '90s ones don't do much for me really. Still cool.
