You mean people that vote SUBRC never have anything interesting to say?

No, because the SUBRC argument has been hashed out, rehashed, hash^2, and hashtag hashgasmed.

It always comes down to a fundamental disagreement on what coolness is and where it applies. (Spoiler: Race cars don't apply to the cool wall.)

Whilst there are people that find race cars cool why pre-censor their opinions? It's a poll thread, not a "hey let's only mention cool cars thread.."

For the same reason that we shouldn't include Hot Wheels cars in these threads. It's not censorship, it's just irrelevant.

And I'm all about discussing uncool cars and cool cars. As long as the discussion goes somewhere. Race car threads never do.

Indeed, there's also little discussion to be had when people keep posting suggestions just to see if they can get it in a specific spot on the Cool Wall Results board. You'll note that the last thread you linked was about twice as long as it would have been if it wasn't full of posts expressing annoyance at that exact practice.

I love everything about it and it's the car that got me interested in Le Mans style racing. Seriously uncool though.

Why can't we just stop nominating race cars? It's never an interesting discussion.

"What does SUBRC mean?"

"All race cars are seriously uncool."

"But they're so fast!"

"But they're not cool."

"But this one is special."

"But it's not cool."
The one thing I don't get is we automatically vote race cars seriously uncool, yet some road cars have been voted sub zero because of the racing pedigree they've had.

Well, it kind of is different. Those cars mentioned could potentially be thought of as cool, for a number of relevant reasons. But you just can't possibly judge a racing car with the same criteria as you'd judge a road car, not when it comes to what actually makes something cool, not if you understand what a 'cool wall' is.

Because a racing car is only as good as its results (I know this is a cool wall and not a good or like wall, but by what other measurement can you judge a racing car? - which is at the end of the day, nothing but a tool to do a specific job) A road car with racing pedigree can however be cool through association with something successful on track.

An E30 M3 Group A car would be deemed SUBRC despite being a highly successful race car. Yet, you yourself voted the road car at a Cool because of said racing pedigree.

The race car is voted uncool, yet the road car is cool because the uncool car has success. I don't know, that's just my obscure observation on it since I don't vote based on a criteria.

The way I see it is that the two are completely different objects. One of them is used purely as a means to win a race, or a rally. Aside from that specific job it's trailered to or from a work shop where it's stripped down to a collection of components. If it's deemed no longer competitive, or regulation changes force it out of a job. It might spend the rest of its life in a museum, being an exhibit.

A road going M3 on the other hand can be used to commute to work. It can be used to take the kids to school. It can help you fetch the groceries or it can put its competition DNA to good use and give you a satisfying blast down a country road. If you put it to the traditional 'Cool Wall' test of picking up a (non car enthusiast) date you're trying to impress - or just pulling up outside a cool coffee shop in it, it can do those things too.

That's why one can be judged on its coolness and one is an irrelevance to coolness.

So... a privately entered R8 which was sponsored by GT is one of the reasons why this car is "one of the least cool cars ever polled".

I'll never understand the fascination with the R8. People were bored to tears watching Schumacher's dominance in F1 during those years, but somehow Audi's massive piles of cash, and a near-complete lack of competition after the mass exodus following Le Mans '99, made this thing interesting. Don't see it.

Oh yeah, and SUBRC.

It's still a version of the car being polled, right? Therefore it's included and thus must be accounted for. That being said, the car would have still gotten Seriously Uncool without being involved in Gran Turismo because it's an open top Le Man Prototype racecar
