2002-2004 Chrysler 300M Special

  • Poll closed .
The way you phrased it implied the 300M is more powerful.
I had actually meant that the E39 M5 doesn't have 400 horsepower, since it has 393. But I'd be real stupid if I thought the Chrysler is faster than the M5.

When you're counting HP by the hundreds, 7 HP is objectively nothing.

Probably just an ECU flash away.

Though I'll be frank, using the wrong words does make other people misunderstand and take them the wrong side.

The more this keeps happening, I'm one more step closer to suggesting polls should have no ability to comment but just vote. But then blocks what we feel about the car which is totally, not gonna cut it.

Though, compared this junk to a known car like the M5, is a little ridiculous to say the truth. Most people recognize the M5 because not just because BMW but, it's one of the more sexy 90's sport luxury out there. Well received that is. 300M on the other case, it's very obscure and, made by Chrysler which, on it's late years for that time...wasn't doing...too well with some cars, like Prowler and Cruiser. It was a bit of tryhard, while it was weak too compared to it and other luxurys, like the Mercedes and Jags too.

But you just conceded that was close enough on the 1st page, didn't you?
The87Dodge
Close enough, it had 393.

Your argument afterwards was that the M5 wasn't even a sport sedan to begin with.

Meh, it's honestly a "luxury" sedan that I forgot about for a while. That's really all it is to me; forgettable. So, I rated it "meh".

EDIT: I made a mistake, if given another chance; I would give it an uncool vote. This special model is not only slower than the normal car, but it was given imitation carbon fiber. That's something I've seen boy racers do to their cars to make it look "cooler", but fricken Chrysler did this from the factory. *facepalm*

Never ever should a model named the Chrysler 300 name be FWD, have imitation carbon fiber, and have a measly 3.5 V6 producing 255 HP as it's only option.

SERIOUSLY, SERIOUSLY UNCOOL.

255 HP was pretty strong back in the day for a conventional V6.

Your discussion over what HP the M5 had...

It had 400 PS (HP)
and that equals to 394bhp

Tomato tomahto...

Mostly thou why is this still going :boggled:

That's strange, because regardless if the Alfa makes a better BMW alternative or whatever than the 300M, the 156 was the size of a Neon.
Well you always have the Similar sized HSV GTS which had 404hp since 2000(actually beat the M5 to be the most powerful production sedan when it was released):

or if that is too expensive you could have a Holden Commodore SS for half the price with a modest 300HP out if it's 5.7 LS1:

and if that is too GM for your tastes you could also get a BA Ford Falcon XR8 which had 350hp when it was released in 2002(same year as 300M in question) with 350HP

To say a 300M is a sports sedan though is hilarious since it actually weighs similar to all these cars these cars with much less power.

others that can fit the category:
Subaru Legacy B4 280hp

Audi S6 340hp

The list goes on either way.

Same concept, better execution

Alfa 166 is probably closer to a Chrysler 300M or Concord. Alfa didn't make a bigger car to strike a comparison with an LHS.

@mustafur, that's all well and good except for none of those cars being available in America except for the S6 which was $55k back in 2002 as opposed to the 300M's $32k.

And since the 300M wasn't available in Australia either the rest of those cars are even less relevant. But just for comparison's sake, the ~$88k list price of the GTS back in 2000 is about US$64k. At least the Commodore is a lot closer at US$35k.

Can't really compare that though, as Australia has higher taxes on cars, that's why the Pontiac G8 was cheaper in America then the similar Spec Holden Commodore SS here even though it was made in Australia then imported.

It would be easier to Compare cars that are similar price to these in Australia that are sold in US, and that would give you a better reflection of where it's priced.

Either way these cars existed at the same time so it's still arguably comparable especially when it's on a forum, the car I quoted the 156 GTA wasn't avaiiable in the US as well so that's why I brought up these(and all of them except the GTS was cheaper then the 156 GTA when it sold here).

Oh and I just remembered another car:
Volvo S60 R 296hp
volvo-s60-r-03.jpg

I used to love the S60R when they came out. Then a family member bought one, and I ended up working on it, because mechanic background and whatnot. Satan lives in Sweden, and he builds Volvos. As much as I love the newest S60R Polestar... Never again.

My neighbor had a Chrysler 300M years ago. Owned it since brand new in 2002, and nearly EVERY single week, it'd be sitting in their driveway with either the hood opened, the car jacked up, or hooked to a AAA tow truck. It finally met it's demise around 5 years later after the engine literally fell off the frame, and shattered bits and pieces of itself everywhere.

In other words, seriously uncool.

Not being as good as other sport sedans doesn't preclude it from being a sport sedan.
