Wasn't this nominated and voted on before or was that just the Monaro?

Totally unbiased i am…Cool!
Just the Monaro; that's why I nominated this, because the votes would differ quite a bit.

To me, this is a suuuuper cool car. Not sub-zero, but very cool. I think it has great styling, especially the back half, and the '05/'06 versions with the LS2 and hood scoops (among other things) are great... I can sure see why some think it's bland, but I think that's part of the beauty of it.
Also it has amazing seats

and

And when I get a GTO, yes, that exhaust is going on it.

Honestly it's a good car. It didn't make much sense to me at first because it's too heavy to turn corners or drift, but has IRS so it isn't ideal for drag racing. Where it does make sense is on the roads of America.

The seats are insanely comfortable and the car can be modded and molded exactly as the owner wants. An intake and some headers on the LS2 model will get it close to 500hp crank and a changing the cam is a $500 job that can yield even more. The "goat" is a great jack of all trades for someone who wants to take their daily driver to several types of HPDE.

But it's still too ugly to be cool.

Meh. The Munroe is a Commodore with two fewer doors and this is a Munroe that's had botched plastic surgery.

At least this got an LS2 as standard later rather than the Munroe having to wait until HSV shoved one in there and exponentially increased its value. Guess that makes it a low Cool.

Uncool

On the one hand GM brought back an iconic nameplate from the past without doing a cheesy retro design in the middle of that fad. But on the other hand they pretty much just slapped some Pontiac bits on a Monaro and called it a day so it looks rather bland.

I drove the Vauxhall version recently:

..Only it was the VXR model, which is supercharged to produce 500hp. I've driven more powerful cars on track, but it's easily the most powerful car I've driven on the road.

Awesome noise (both engine and supercharger) and the ability to light up the rear wheels at half throttle made me giggle like an idiot. I loved it.

But... It really isn't cool. It's not clever, it isn't classy, and most people would think you're attention seeking if you drive one. It isn't even that exciting to look at either. The GTO is basically identical save for the badges, so the same applies.

I thought the Monaro VXR was the LS2 version? Or was that one of the ones where you could order the Walkinshaw blower as an optional extra?

The 6 litre VXR version was the LS2. There was a special edition supercharged VXR500 built for the end of it's production before it was replaced by the VXR8 sedan. I'm pretty sure the blower would have been an optional extra as well on the base VXR.

Formula, take a Monaro, add a slightly bigger, but more powerful engine, then ruin its looks.

Seriously uncool here.

Although you could get the 5.7 LS1 in VXR form. I remember the Colwyn Bay Vauxhall dealer having both engined versions in and they were both VXR trim.

It was a half-assed attempt at reviving the GTO. Very bland styling for a muscle car. But you can't ignore its performance.

Low cool.

Oh yes you can. It's a sea of bleh.
I drove one of these right after they were released to the public. Similar drivetrain to the Camaro and Trans Am but very bleh IMO. Never cared for these GTO cars at all.

Meh. Great platform, extremely comfortable, but just can't get past the bland exterior.
Exactly.

If I am going to buy a Pontiac I would MUCH rather have the 1998-2002 Ram Air Trans Am.

Give me this instead.

Didn't the Monaro CV8 and GTO use the same 5.7L V8?

In 2004 yes. In 2005-06 Pontiac used the slightly larger Ls2 6.0L V8.

Edit: Fun fact..The 2005-2006 Pontiac GTO was the fastest production GTO ever produced!

Great idea and nothing too bad in execution but it looks really dated and I don't particularly care for the style.
Now the G8... :mischievous:

The VXR Trim is just rebadged HSV trim.

Gets better brakes, suspension and Tyres over the Monaro and GTO.
