Terrible name.

Actually, the name is my favorite bit. Horacio Pagani wanted to name his first car as a tribute to Juan Manuel Fangio because it was thanks to him that Pagani got Mercedes engines. Sadly, Fangio died and the Fangio F1 was renamed "Zonda", in honor of an Andean wind current. Huayra is Quechua for "god of the wind", marking a tendence to name Pagani cars after the wind but with very clear ties to Horacio's roots: South america.

Horacio Pagani is not only very passionate and smart, he's also not ashamed of his roots. Gotta love that!

(But the car is still seriously uncool to me...)

I had many issues with the design of the Zonda, such as the nose being too low, the rear too boxy and unrefined, and the mirrors being in a, frankly, stupid position.

All of those problems disappeared with the Huayra- it's one of those cars that I was stunned when I first saw it. The Zonda had become beautiful.

This is probably the most interesting car on the road. Firstly, the interior, which Richard Hammond describes as a Victorian's idea of the 23rd century. Secondly, the gullwing doors. Thirdly, the flaps that give the car downforce that depends on how hard it's turning. Finally, the Pagani company itself- it has less than 60 employees. Pagani is what Ferrari and Lamborghini used to be- one man's dream.

THAT is why the Huayra is cool.

Zonda's are more popular. Still, it's just another car kids dream of owning.

Though personally I don't really care for it. Cool I guess.
I don't know about that. Up until this car & the Zonda R, Pagani remained relatively unknown to those outside the car community. With this car being Pagani's first real worldwide-marketed car, I think the brand is going to become immensely more well known for the Huayra more than the Zonda ever did.

However, it could be a different story in say Asia which has a large amount of Zondas.

When I said Zonda, I should have said the R. But you are spot on otherwise.

If money was no object and I had to buy a car, it's this one, it's different, detail is mind blowing, mega expensive and since I won't ever get to even get near one and it'smouth watering body

Sub Zero

Cool from me, technically awesome car and I have huge admiration for Signor Pagani and his vision, but I much preferred the styling of the Zonda. Whilst I love the nuances of this, the interior details, the bug-like mirrors and suchlike, the shape of the car itself I find a bit bulbous, something of a trend nowadays as some manufacturers move away from the sleek and svelte supercars of old. Also like Famine I can see this going down the Zonda route of umpteen special editions, which rather dilute its identity. But we shall see.

Do you know anything about Mercedes AMG engines? If not military hardware, they still are weapons-grade
