And what's with forming an opinion based on the perspective buyers of a car rather than the car itself?

So then the Cool Wall is a waste of time because everything polled is uncool.

Exactly.

That doesn't mean it shouldn't continue. It's just not worth getting too heated about.

I like cars and racing, so that makes it cool to me, and well if I didn't think my own hobbies and interests were cool... then I've wasted my life.

This is what I don't understand. Why does something have to be cool to you to be worthy? So long as you enjoy it, why does it matter how cool something is?

Coolness doesn't matter. Just enjoy what you enjoy.

Edited for spelling.

Great drivers car. Probably one the all time best. Too expensive and raw to be owned by anyone other than true enthusiasts - or speculators. Therefore low cool.

It doesn't have to be cool to be worthy, I'm not that shallow. I love and enjoy my cars and motorsport and I guess you could say a by-product of that is that I think it's cool. I don't base what I think is cool based on what other people may think, I base what I think is cool based on what I think.
If my neighbour doesn't think cars and motorsport are cool I'm not going to change my opinion because of what he thinks. I love and enjoy sim racing and think it's cool, the general public will see me as a computer nerd, do I care...No, I will still call it cool every day of the week.
I call this independent thought, and to be honest I see very little of it in these cool wall threads. A lot of people scared to call something they love/enjoy cool because it goes against what the general public may think.

Too many votes based on what people think other people might be thinking. Who really cares what others are thinking when you are driving down the road in your favorite car.

Because this isn't a like wall or a favorite wall, it's a cool wall and people have different criteria for coolness. For me, I look at the package as a whole which includes how you would be perceived driving it. If the average person thinks you look like a d-bag while driving it, I don't really consider that to be cool.

And that's the thing, the average person, even if they do look at you, I can pretty much guarantee they aren't thinking cool or uncool, they will be thinking geez I'm late to pick my kids up...don't forget milk at the supermarket...I hate being stuck in traffic...do I have enough gas to make it home....
That's why you don't worry about what other people think about you, because they are probably not thinking about you at all.

I disagree, I think the average person would think you look like a dork driving around in a car with a big wing, red wheels, and a bunch of metal tubing in the back seat.

For me, I don't care what others think for the most part. I don't drive anything remotely cool and I don't really care because I rather like my truck. I enjoy motorsports and even have a race car of my own, even though I think motorsports are seriously uncool along with those who participate in them. Liking and enjoying something and its coolness can be vastly different from one another, you just have to be comfortable enough with what you like to ignore all that if you do indeed enjoy something.

As long as "you" think about what other people classify as cool, how they see you, your hobby, your passion and you bend to that... what is this? High school ?

Car people are uncool? WHat??
Car culture has been around since the automobile. Some are more into it than others, and "extremist" will always be considered uncool, but the scene as a whole is def. not considered uncool.

Alone the fact, discussing what and who is cool and what is not... mind blown

On the subject : while 90% of Porsche are never driven to their potenial, doesn't diminish the cars quality

Solid cool, the price policy of Porsche taking away the SZ

So then the Cool Wall is a waste of time because everything polled is uncool.
What actual purpose does the wall have besides being a time waster for all involved. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it's not like this is taken seriously

Have to agree here for the most part. From my experience, when the average person sees most of the cars people deem SU, they're usually not giving the driver a thought to begin with. More so, "Oh, that's a nice car", and that's it. Anything more about the driver usually comes from just an assumption of his wealth or attitude, and we car folks do this far more than average joe because we actually have some knowledge of what it takes to acquire such vehicles.

My 2 cents.

Sounds like you're still conflating liking something with finding it cool.

There's Porsche DLC For Forza Horizon 2 coming out today. For gamers, especially those that own that game, it's big news. Even more so when you consider the whole Porsche/EA situation. I've got the day off today, so you bet I'm excited for the pack to become available, and I'm undoubtedly going to spend hours playing once it is. I'm even plotting out the order in which I'll drive the cars.

Nothing about the above paragraph is remotely cool. I accept that, too. I enjoy video games and still will regardless of how uncool they tend to be. That is not caring what other people think, and I'm not so full of myself to assume all of my pursuits are cool.

I really like the 4.0. It was an awesome swansong for the Mezger. But it's a tacky looking thing, and being limited to 600 units means it's more likely to become a museum piece than any of the other GT Porkers of that generation. I'm sure the 458 Speciale will suffer a similar fate, since it's the last of the NA Ferrari V8 berlinettas. From a car enthusiast point of view, they're the best of their breeds, the fastest, highest-performing evolutions of their bloodlines. But they're not cool.

SZ, one of the best sports cars ever made from what I hear

Since forever.

All cars are uncool. Liking driving is uncool. Anything car related is uncool, apart from motorsport, which is seriously uncool. Try talking to almost anyone about cars - and certainly anyone not interested in cars - for more than a few seconds and you'll see their eyes glaze over, and there'll be only one thought in their mind: "This guy's a prat". Try describing how it feels to drive something without sounding like a weirdo. (Actually, don't, because it's not possible.)

To most people, cars are nothing more than a way of getting people and things from point A to point B. Taking an interest in something so mundane is never cool.

I like cars and Motorsport a lot, but they're not cool, and neither am I. Neither are you, or anyone else on this site - we're members of an Internet forum about a video game about motor racing. That's about as seriously uncool as it's possible to be.

The Cool Wall: separating people who get cool and people who don't since whenever it was founded.
If the whole point of the GTP Cool Wall is defined by social acceptance, it shouldn't be an open poll, it should be a guided discussion to determine the objective social standing of each car based on socioeconomic and cultural factors, weighted by the region(s) in which it is most prevalent and the reputation of its owners and fans. Or some such contrived process. As a poll, it's already screwed.

Not caring what other people think means not caring what they think is cool, which is sensible considering it's a stupendously subjective and fickle concept. There's still a distinction between liking something and thinking it's cool -- I tend to consider "cool" to be analogous to "interesting" or "intriguing" -- but unless you're playing the hipster card or aping Top Gear's self-deprecating "I love it therefore it's uncool" rule, liking something and finding it cool will probably coincide more often than not. ;)

Well putting it like that, yes, yes I am conflating the two. But for me it is natural to do that, it has nothing to do with being full of myself or ego. I guess I look at it like that old saying 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' why cant cool be the same... Why is it so wrong to think something you like is cool ?

And well I would call taking the day off to play your favorite game cool, but I guess I'm the only one to think like that. Hope you have fun !
