Look at the Mazda 6. It's got one and doesn't need it. That's why I like it.
The Mazda 6 is a deliberately sporty centric midsized sedan. This is a bread and butter full size sedan.

Even going back to the mythical 1950s, 1960s and 1970s Impalas people alluded to above, you know who it was who optioned manual transmissions in full size cars back then? Poor people and skinflints.

Isn't it wonderful? The name of this car:

Just so happened to be put on this monstrosity:

Great job, GM.

Uncool for that reason alone.

The diesel Mazda 6 needs it, just as every diesel car,
Have you ever been in a modern BMW 5-Series diesel, or in any higher displacement luxury diesel. By my experience on the 535d with an auto, which to be fair didn't involve actually driving it, definitely didn't need a manual, and diesel Range Rover with an auto would probably actually be worse with a manual.

TBH, no I have not. But I know how even modern diesels have a pretty sharp power loss at a certain rpm. And Auto transmissions tend to rev over this number of rpm when kicked down.

Maybe I am wrong, but looking at the numbers and from my experience with lower powered diesels (with or without auto transmission), this should not be too wrong. :)

A frien of mine recently bought a 3.0 TDI A6 Avant. Maybe I can experience this car soon.

Most new automatics now come with a manual mode, either via a +/- mode on the gear lever or via paddle shifters.

What @Tornado said: the Mazda 6 is placed as the decidedly sporty choice in its category. Not a surprise.

The Impala isn't. Nothing in that category really is: the Maxima pays lip-service to its 4DSC roots, but that's it.

A Rolls doesn't need a manual. Neither does a Mulsanne. This is another car - very far removed from those two examples, that much should be obvious - that doesn't.

Well, then I apologize that you disagree with me. A Rolls doesn't need one, that much is true. But a standard would help differentiate this car in my opinion. Sorta like with the Xterra, despite being a different vehicle.

Despite everyone saying how ugly it looks, personally I find it looks quite nice inside and out.

My only issue is FWD/Auto-only Malibu. If it was RWD and basically a 4 door Camaro that can seat 5 people instead of 2 it would be Cool, if it had the Camaro engine options than Sub-Zero.

As it is... Meh.

The interior is a bit overdone to me. Lots of lights and buttons, but the touch of leather is nice.

Giving it a high meh because I have no idea how it performs.

How so, this car actually won awards because of it's design and looks while the Cadi didn't.

I put very little faith in automotive awards as there are about a hundred different companies awarding the same categories (hence why pretty much every car is somehow the "car of the year"). Things like design are also highly subjective.

I also addressed the looks when Tornado commented on the XTS' lack of good looks.

The Cadillac equivalent of this car is atrocious looking.

That it does, but overall Cadillac has a much better looking line-up than Chevrolet, GMC or Buick (at least in my mind).

Well looks are subjective either way, I don't really agree the XTS is any worse or better than this in looks but the point is clearly there is a sizable group that don't see this as an ugly car. Also if GM made the car line up at Chevy that much more appealing than Cadi, old men with younger wives wouldn't give Cadillac the 60k they want for a CTS. Well not as many.

The 4 cylinder models have leisurely performance. The V6 is fairly quick.

Best looking car in all of Chevy's non-sports car fleet. Like, why don't they use that design language on everything else to stop making their cars look like bland rentals?

But really, the Impala has only its looks, nothing special. Hell, even the styling isn't that special, it's just that every other Chevrolet just looks bad.

Definition of meh.
