Seriously Uncool: My dad has one (CV8-R), it's seriously uncomfortable to sit in for more than 30 minutes, it sounds kinda lame, the interior is just cheap for a $60,000 car, it drinks fuel, and isn't that fast for the huge engine it has and fuel it uses. And the fanboys are the worst.

And it's not a Saab.

I voted cool, since I like the GTO they brought to the states. You can cruise in decent comfort with V8 power.

Sub-Zero

V-8 ( down a bit on power , 300+ hp would have been real nice ) , rear wheel drive , 5 speed transmission available . This car along with it's American sister ( the GTO ) are good for straight line as others have pointed out , but they do lag a bit in the handling dept. Plenty of engine / suspension upgrades are readily available for these cars to really call them a weekend race warrior.

Nice car Aussies 👍

All V8 Monaros have been over 300hp and 6spd manuals at least.......

Seriously uncool. If you combine the worst aspects of American sports and European sports you get Australian sports.

WTF are you serious?! Worst American= bad handling, worst European= lack of bottom end torque. Australian cars are powerful muscle cars that can actually handle, you really have no clue.

Man, people complain about Holden fanboys but it's the anti-fanboys Holden has that are some of the worst people in the automotive world, and I'm not talking about Ford fans.

Uncool. Rebadged Pontiac.

Are you joking or really that ill informed? You'll fit in in USA just fine if you didn't know that a GTO is a re-badged Monaro. All Monaro work was done in Australia.

Most people don't know much about Holden's outside of Australia.

The only reason I dislike Holden's so much is because of the fans, at first I thought they were OK cars. Still had that GM quality about it but nothing horrible. Then I started seeing the fans of the car and it quickly turned the way I view Holden vehicles. The same thing happens with Jeep's, Dodge Rams...actually Chrysler's in general...along with a ton of other cars like the GT-R for example. No, one person does not turn me off from a car, however an entire fan base that acts in a similar way does.

This is not to say I won't admit when one of these cars is actually good. Ya the Monaro is quick in a straight line, especially in the 6.0L GTO form we got...but that's about it. Nothing else really wow's me about the car. The handling is average, the interior is slightly above GM average, and the looks are very boring.

So you've never been to Australia to actually meet Holden fans, and instead base your entire perception of a brand on some losers you met on the web? *claps un-enthusiastically*. True Holden fans are just as pure an automotive enthusiast as any other automotive enthusiast. Every single car on the planet has some rotten egg followers and that can't be helped.

Edit:
still a badge job, no matter how you turn it around. :P

So you hate the Toyota Aurion which is a re-badged Camry V6? GM is the brand, get over it, Holden is a sub-division. When will people stop coming up with pathetic excuses to hate GM?

I actually have a friend, who is a Holden fan and is here on a study programme from Australia. I believe I already mentioned that in this thread.

But why would I actually need to meet someone in real life to understand how they feel about cars? They give their opinions on the internet and they are pretty clear cut. I have seen quite a few people, who are Holden fans, express their love of the brand in a way that seems civilised and not fanboyish. Some are even in this thread. But it seems like every time an Australian car comes up in conversation anywhere on the internet there are more meatheaded fanboys that come out of the woodwork to defend the car to the hilt and label people who don't like it all sorts of things.

This is what turns me off from the brand in general. There seem to be more fanboys associated with it than not.

Well if that's your opinion then I feel sad for you.

PS- More people on the interwebs are losers than are not. So unless you know a large number of Holden fans in real life and consider the majority fanboys than this conversation doesn't have any merits. While we're at it, why don't you say which type I am, go on. (You'll notice I have only questioned false facts in this thread at first before questioning dodgy reasoning, and haven't pressed anyone that doesn't like it because they don't like it, instead of some made up excuse).

This is true (hence my joke post), same happens all the time in person at car events aswell, but to be honest I think Ford "fans" (or should I say Falcon fans) are worse. Some of m friends are like this, I ignore it.

Btw keep in mind a own a Classic Monaro and started out as a "true blue" Holden and GM fan and I still appreciate them but wont defend them much more than other worthy cars.

People's opinions are the same whether they type it out or whether they say it in person. It's still you expressing your views about a given entity.

No I don't know a large number of Holden fans personally because I live in America, we don't get Holden's in America outside two pretty average Pontiac's. I do know fans of the GTO and G8 though and even many of them have the same mentality as many of the Holden fans I see on the internet.

This rampant fanboyism is what makes the entire Holden "uncool" for me, which is why I voted the car to be "uncool". Really the only thing that saved it from being "seriously uncool" is that it's probably the only GM car I know without the world's worst interior...although it still isn't stellar.

And if you think what I am saying applies to you, then so be it, if you don't think it applies to you, then so be it. I am not going to make this debate personal and I'm only talking in general.

 I think I missed the Boomerangs at 20 paces thing.

It's unfortunate that at car events you get that. We do have the same thing in the states among owners of 60's and 70's classic cars, they all seem to think their brand is the best in the world and will defend it to the hilt as well. It's one of the things that ruins muscle cars for me.

I voted cool. The novelty of an all new Monaro was great for a few years, but it eventually wore off.

Although we got it over here with a Vauxhall badge and even though it's power figures stacked up to disappointing performance figures and lap times, i still voted cool. It's different enough for me to not really think of it as a Vauxhall, and the whole big V8 and rear wheel drive thing it has going on is quite refreshing in the UK. Shame they never sold well.

Paulie, you are in your entire right to be pissed, as I am at some of these comments. I share your opinions on the matter, and agree totally with them. Ignorance is ignorance (badge deal), and we can't help it. 👎

In the end it is still just a car. I really don't see any comments being out of line.

When reasons to dislike the car are ridiculous (re-badged GTO, not liking it because of it's fanboy community), then people have the right to be pissed. If we were to be guided in life by the "not like something because of it's fanboy community", then we shouldn't like Nissan GT-Rs (which I don't), Chevrolet Camaros (which I do), Ford Mustangs (which I do), Honda NSX Type Rs (which I do), etc.

Seriously by the fans of the car getting pissed off all they are doing is reinforcing the negative perceptions other people have. I know every thing is going to have a following and everything is going to have ignorant fanboys, but it seems like Holdens have more than the average amount...same goes for the GT-R. This may not be the case, it may be, it is just what I observe.

I don't see a problem with disliking something because of the fan base. I don't like the New York Yankees for the same reason.

I don't think there is a big problem with not liking a car because of who (generally) likes them, but I guess its a slippery slope that is going to have a lot of ups and downs. Then again, I hate the University of Michigan because of their fans and the douchebags that go there. So... Yeah. Bad time to make an argument.

My post about it being a rebadged GTO was a joke.

Also I actually voted cool because I can't argue with a RWD, V6/V8 powered coupe at a reasonable price.

I think he meant Leo's GTO re-badge post which wasn't a joke.

Awwww....come on Brad...I'm a huge U of M supporter :guilty: .

Yes it's a slippery slope but it's a valid reason never the less. There are always going to be a large group of the fans that don't fit the stereotypical fanboy idiocy. However with some things there are just uber fanboys with it and it turns average people away from it.

C.I.P.: Me with Audi thanks to Forza2.0, Which, I'll admit, is sad.

I don't think that "Passionate fans" count as "Fanboys," but the fanboys can get bad enough to ruin the reputation of both species. If you're a passionate fan, go seek out thy fanboy and destroy.

Just to chime in here:
When reasons to dislike the car are ridiculous (re-badged GTO, not liking it because of it's fanboy community)
I don't know of the fanbase that Joey speaks of, but ruined by the fanbase is a very valid reason to not like something.

then we shouldn't like Nissan GT-Rs (which I don't), Chevrolet Camaros (which I do), Ford Mustangs (which I do), Honda NSX Type Rs (which I do), etc.

Actually, very many people dislike each of those cars for that very reason.

Anyways, I voted uncool. Yeah, the Monaro handled well, and yeah, when it was a GTO it was a creaming deal. But something always felt off about it. I don't think it was that it wasn't a "true" GTO or even that it was a captive import. Its just, something felt wrong about the whole situation from the first second the car was sold here.
