Gotta love the people ignorant enough to think it's not a true off-roader. These people have presumably never heard of the Camel Trophy or G4 challenge. Or indeed military use.

Yeah, it really is pathetic. I would have thought this car would be GTP redneck brigade approved but I guess because they don't know about it, it must be for soccer moms. Calling a Defender a "pavement pounder".

Needs moar lift kit*. Or V8 engine**. Or chrome***.

* Almost certainly available aftermarket, but generally not necessary
** Was once available from the factory
*** Available aftermarket for people with no taste

Being a 4x4 doesn't automatically mean its capable of going anywhere offroad. I don't know why so many people here seem to think that. I'd like to see it take 6 feet of water or 10 foot mud pits or swamps without getting stuck in stock form.

You show once again that you know very little about cars that aren't Ford.

Show me something that can take 6 feet of water in stock form. This is one of the best, if not the best offroader you can find on the planet.

I'd give it a cool if the seating position wasn't so screwed, at least in the LHD versions. I'll stick with a meh.

It's screwed in RHD models too. Unless you have no right arm or shoulder, in which case it's fine.

Wow.

I can't abide Defenders, but they're the 4x4 you buy when you actually want to go 4x4ing.

I won't lie I can see that they are very capable machines but saying its the best on the planet takes it a little to far I think. Surely there is better options out there.

Not... really, no.

To get better you have to mod. But, guess what? You can mod the Defender too. Farmers use them, armies use them (even the UN) and Top Gear use them (and Range Rovers too, to be fair)... to film the poncey soft-roader they've got on test flailing about in a six inch muddy rut.

The only stock vehicle more capable is a tractor.

Maybe they are better than I think but for some reason something is telling me they aren't the greatest thing out there. Obviously anything is moddable

They are. Go back and read niky's post about the triumvirate of top off-roaders.

That something is you not having a clue what you're talking about when there's not a blue oval on the front. You and Antonisbob seem to think this is the same as a Range Rover.

It's not the same as a Range Rover, I am well aware of that. Maybe its because I haven't seen one in person, but my gut instinct says that it it's the absolute best thing in the world.

That said I don't think one vehicle can outperform everything else. Everything has a weakness and an advantage over something else.

A vehicle can't outperform everything else in everything, but it can in one or very few aspects, and the Defender certainly does when it comes to off-roading.

Legendary off-roadability, rugged, iconic, and just rough enough that it's still mostly used for what it was designed for.

Sub-Zero. And I want one.

This is what I'm saying. Saying it's downright the best thing in the world is a little too out of this world for me.

When I take one in the mud I'll be the judge of how good I think it really is.

Would say these are cool but the image has been tainted somewhat as I know of a few modern ones local to me that people have bought trying to have cool 'tough' looking urban 4x4, sort if in the same vain as. G wager AMG etc.

That fact bumps it down to a 'Meh' for me.

I'd not really trust anyone who owns one in a city. Definitely poseurs there.

Go out into the countryside around where I live though, and they're everywhere. None of them are shiny either, which is even better.

Nope in the US they are...Very expensive/Rare SUVs granted that last time Discovery was available was in '98 IIRC

Which is why if you want to go offroad you buy a $500 Blazer that can do the same thing and has way more aftermarket it available for it.

Stock Vs Stock nothing short of Hummer H1 can keep up off road! Even then a Defender 90 has advantages's on "Jeep" type trails because of it's wheelbase.

A Blazer can't do the same thing without the aftermarket it has. There's more to offroading than driving through muddy puddles.

Alright, lets say your right. Lets add in some mods. For a cheap Blazer, Bronco, F-150, Ram, Chevy 1500, Wrangler etc, you can get for dirt cheap and with the money you could put into mods would put this thing to shame and then some without even coming close to the price a Land Rover costs around these parts.

Regardless I'm pretty sure a stock Blazer can do a lot more than you are giving it credit for. There is a reason why all those I listed are so very popular here in the states.

You can keep your Land Rover, I'll take me a beat up old hunk of metal with big tires, a rip-roaring V8 and IMO better styling.

People are saying that it's one of the best if not the best off-roaster in the world when stock. I think you are stretching people's words to claim that people said these are the best things in the world.

These things will outperform any Ford off road when left factory stock. Just because you haven't tried it doesn't mean it's automatically bad, especially if almost every other person in the world, many of whom have direct experience, says it's good.

Ironically for you, the Defender was at one point in time Ford's best off-roader.

Which is why if you want to go offroad you buy a $500 Blazer that can do the same thing and has way more aftermarket it available for it.

A stock Blazer absolutely cannot keep up with a Defender.

Okay, and the situation is reversed elsewhere, so what's the point? This is an international forum. And you're still comparing modified to stock, which never proves anything.

My family owned an S10, I know what they're like. It's a pickup truck with a closed-in cargo area, not a trail crawler of the same caliber as the Defender. Anything that turns all four wheels and has some decent ground clearance will get around offroad; my freakin' non-Outback Legacy tackles snow-blanketed wooded trails and soggy farmyards for my job. But just like how my Subaru lacks the proportions and height to tackle obstacles a stock Blazer could cover, a stock Blazer lacks the tidy proportions and approach/departure angles to tackle obstacles a stock Defender could cover.

It's a British Jeep, dude. The Blazer is just a truck.

As you said to Eunos_Cosmo in the Mustang thread -- have fun, no one is stopping you. :sly:

Fair enough, lets end this nonsense 👍

...And when you get stuck, the chances are it'll be a Defender that swings by to get you out.

Have fun.

Maybe, if anyone around here even owns one. Because most of the guys I hang out with have the same mentality as me.
