No one ever remembers who came second ;)

Finishing a 24hr race is indeed worthy of respect đź‘Ť - doesn't make it cool though.

Besides, it's not like he's ever giving a shred of justification for whatever his pros or cons are, or even telling the ones to which he is referring. :dunce:

Want me to show my pros and cons? Ok, I will. I posted them a while a go at the "What defines a cool car (or whatever was it called)" thread.

My ways of defining a cool car:

Pros:
1. Is it outrageous? :dopey:
2. Is it revolutionary in it's styling or it's engineering? đź’ˇ
3. Does it have sexy, agressive, fast, or interesting/curious looks?
4. How is it's character?
5. Does it's looks match it's character?
6. Does it's performance/sound match it's character?
7. Is it reasonably fast?
8. Is it a fire-breathing monster? (Absolutely mad car or a racing car).
9. Is it a Lamborghini? (Being one makes it automatically Sub-Zero. Exceptions apply though).
10. Is it a recognizable car/legend/head-turner?
11. Does it have some sort of "Surprise/History factor" or any special deed done? ("It has a rotatory engine"/"It's the first 4WD Porsche"/"It, or it's closely related race version won the 24H of Le Mans").

Cons:
1. It has a dull, boxy, or "wanna-be" styling.
2. It looks like it has been riced. :banghead:
3. Cant manage to make a graceful left-right turn at a corner. (See: Some Muscle cars and Dragsters). :dunce:
4. It is a "Sober and elegant" car, but with high performance. (See: RR Phantom/Maybach 62). :indiff:
5. It's an SUV/CUV/MPV/Pick-Up or any niche of the market that resemble one of those. Doesnt apply if it's a pure, purpose built, off-roading vehicle. :yuck:
6. Cars that dont go outside the box both in styling and performance terms. :irked:
7. Cars with lazy engineering (8.0L engine developing...250HP! đź‘Ž). :dunce:
8. Cars that are prone to attract gold diggers (He's driving a Ferrari...maybe i could have his life insurance). :ill:
9. Heavy cars.
10. Cars owned by bussinesmen or anyybody that would produce a boring and uninteresting conversation. :ouch:
11. Ford cars. There is a reason why Henry Ford is criticized and is a god-like character in Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World", and unless it's a race car, a Ford GT, or a muscle car, this rule deems it automatically seriously uncool (Much like "Pro" rule #9).

I select the rules (the Pros and Cons) that apply, add them and take that as 100%. Then i work out the actual "cool" percentage the car has.

<65=Seriously Uncool
Between 66 and 75=Uncool đź‘Ž.
Between 76 and 85=Cool
85-95=Sub-Zero.

Pros:
95-100=Lord Kelvin's Ice Box!.

That's just my opinion :sly:.

In this case, "Pro" rules 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, and 11 are the ones that apply. "Con" rules that apply: 6, 7, 9. Total of rules that apply: 12. "Pro" Rules out of that 12: 9. 9 out of 12 = 75%

Enough justification for you? *Dodges a coconut*.

It's = It is/it has
Its = Pertaining to it.

So 75% of the rules that apply are in its favour, but that makes it uncool? If you get 70% of your degree course right, it's enough to get you a first class degree...

I was thinking about that when i made it , But i wanted to be a bit more demanding than schools over here. Do you think it's exaggerated asking so much?

I certainly wouldn't think the person driving it was cool.

I wouldn't either, but if it sounded good that would probably override it.

How did you come up with 7 for this car? Actually, 7 doesn't have much to do with coolness at all.

50% = average. Less than that should be uncool, more should be cool.

Unlike games magazines who rate 73% as average.

So... first in class and second overall at the 24 hours of Spa isn't good enough? Any brick that actually survives a 24 hour race is worthy of respect.

First in class is a rather meaningless statistic. Some race classes are made up of just 1 or 2 cars because they are too powerful or too slow to be fairly ranked against the rest of the field.

Only really the Le Mans races are worthwhile for winning classes, mostly because they only have 4, compared to some races which have up to 10 or more different classes!

Still, 2nd at Spa is quite good, but its not really got a great deal of prestige to it, though I imagine taking Eau Rouge in something that heavy back when it wasn't as safe is quite impressive đź‘Ť

This is more of a rare race car than a particularly successful one, I'm of two minds whether its really cool. Its not sub zero and its not seriously uncool, I'll go for cool just because I guess it just edges it by being unique.

So... let me get this straight. If you all saw some guy driving around the local high street, you wouldn't think "What tosser's butchered an old Merc?"?

I would recognise it for what it is and think it is cool as fark.

+twelve. Wasn't there a yellow one that ran at Hockenheimring the same year and did pretty well?

Plus, MB took the hint from this titan of automotive engineering and bored out the M100 to 6.9 liters. They then dumped into the next S class and we were given the 450SEL6.9, which was used to great effect in a certain film called C'Ă©tait un rendez-vous. Too bad Claude lelouch was an idiot and overdubbed the MB's exhaust note. (unless he didn't..?)

Did you know AMG recently built another one, but this time they used the new 6.2 liter engine that is currently in all the AMGs? Wish I could find the link

It does to me, I dont like very big engines in very big cars. Then again, it's just a personal opinion.

Ok, I'll have it in mind.

You grade steeper than Dr. Kroll in my department. and no-one likes Dr. Kroll.

Dude...that hurt :guilty:.

Well, Thanks for the pointers. I think I'll re-adjust the percentages đź‘Ť.

Hmm. Toss-up. Outside of the box approach is always Sub-Zero in my book. However, it's not extrememly sophisticated in its engineering, being a Single-Slammer 16v (I'd expect more of a Mercedes). So uncool. Start of the fire-breathing AMG firm tugs back the Sub Zero direction. Racing well, despite being completely inefficient (Taking Spa) solidifies the Sub Zero spot.

Cheers,
Jetboy

I too have read about it, but I can't find anything about it.
I'm not sure, but that may be the very one in the OP. I've read that the original car has been lost since it raced in '71, and that AMG built a new one in 2006, so maybe that is the one?

Possible.....

I don't think race cars belong on cool walls, Because they are usually then judged on their race success or their outrageous race modifications rather than their actual cool-factor. So a no vote from me.

It would be a crime for this to be cooler then the '68 Mustang..

Maybe in your eyes....but everyone knows a Mustang is sub-zero. This is so beyond sub-zero it's got the B17B iceberg sitting under the hood!

That's my stance and I'm sticking with it. đź‘Ť
