Welcome to the GTP NASCAR Japan Series!

The newest addition to the GTP NASCAR family, the NASCAR Japan Series is a series that takes place on Japanese circuits (real and fictional) using the NASCAR stock cars included in GT5.

For the inaugural season, we will be running on 9 tracks, some of which are DLC. For those who do not have the DLC, you may not be able to race on these tracks.

The following are the starting/practice times:

2:30 PM EST (7:00 PM GMT) - Private lobby opens, practice starts.
3:15 PM EST (8:15 PM GMT) - Qualifying begins.
3:25 PM EST (8:25 PM GMT) - Qualifying ends.
3:30 PM EST (8:30 PM GMT) - Race begins.

After qualifying, all drivers will be ordered to stay in the pits. I will then write down everybody's best lap and determine the starting order from there. Leaving the track for any reason after qualifying will have you start from the rear of the field.

Scoring System:

For the driver's championship, drivers will be scored by position, with one point deducted for each position. So 1st place will get 16 points, 2nd will get 15 points, and so on.

7th: 10
8th: 9
9th: 8
10th: 7
11th: 6
12th: 5
13th: 4
14th: 3
15th: 2

You will gain a bonus point for leading a lap, as well as leading the most laps. The 1st place points do not include the bonus points gained from leading the final lap.

In the case of a tie, the tiebreaker will be determined by the number of wins one of the tied drivers has. If both drivers have the same number of wins, then top 3's will be used to judge the victor.

Schedule:

With the exception of Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway, all tracks will have a pace lap run before the start of the race.

1. Fuji Opener (Fuji Speedway GT, 20 laps)
2. Tokyo 20 (Tokyo R246, 20 laps)
3. NASCAR Thunder 100 (125 lap enduro, Suzuka East)
4. Nightfall 100 (Special Stage Route 5, 28 laps)
5. Motegi 150 (Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway, 60 laps)*
6. Motegi Road Race (Twin Ring Motegi - East Course, 24 laps)*
7. Tsukuba 50 (Tsukuba Circuit, 40 laps)
8. Suzuka Thunder 100 (Suzuka Circuit, 18 laps)
9. Coca-Cola 500 (200 lap enduro, Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway)*

*Requires DLC.

Rules and Regulations:

All cars are limited to 552 HP on all tracks except for Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway, which will remain at default.
Mechanical damage is set to light.
Tire wear/fuel consumption is set to on.
ABS will be enabled on road courses, but disabled on Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway.
All other driving aids will be set to off.
Racing Medium tires will be used for all races.
Grip reduction will be set to real.
Slipstream will be set to weak.
Boost is off.
Visual damage is off.
Microphones are off to reduce lag.
Race clean. Aggressive moves are allowed, but wrecking others intentionally is not.
Two tires must be on the track at all times. Rumble strips are not part of the track and may not be used unless they are towards the outside of the track.
No cautions. Use this as a motivation to race clean and to avoid driving recklessly.​

Each team will be competing for the Owner's Championship. The Owner's Championship combines all of the points earned in a single race by the teams that run. Example, two Hendrick cars finish 14th and 15th. They will get 5 owner points as a result.

The owner of a team does not need to run in the series. They may drive for their team if they wish, however.

Looks awesome man, what day is this on again? Also, the Motegi full course would be cool over the East and what bhp is to be run at Motegi oval?

For the Super Speedway, we will be running default specs. I know that the cars will be running really fast, but NASCAR stock cars don't use restrictor plates on tracks like that.

So, is this Friday, Saturday or Sunday?

I'm planning on running these races on Saturdays following the GTP Nationwide races. It may conflict with the GTP Sprint Cup, though, so would Fridays be alright?
 
Fridays would be good for us Brits but maybe not the American guys I suspect.
 
I like the series, but with that time slot it will probably fail if it lands on Friday or Saturday. Sunday might be your best bet to get drivers from both sides of the pond.
 
Very up for this and no SSRX has got me into this.

Again, Friday or Sunday would be excellent.

Here's the deal. I have a poll on the thread for people to vote for what day this series will be held. If one of the options gets the most votes by the start of the season, we will run on those days.

Saturdays is essentially a no-go for 90% of us. Nationwide, Sprint Cup and TOCA have us all booked up for that evening.

Fridays is interesting. Furi's Trucks will reopen on Fridays soon. I plan on moving Thunder if driver's are keen to go with a new concept I'll outline soon. Thunder will not start again until much later anyway.

Sundays is interesting again. Furi has WSC but only a few drivers do that like myself and Carbonox.

You might want to consult with Knelly on this and when he plans on running his series. 👍
 
Woah. Schedule Congestion. Well i'm watching this, even if I can't compete.
 
Sundays would probably be best for this series. I had already decided to not run in WSM 2, so sundays would work best for me. Currently I only join a series if it requires minimal testing for me, and this fits nicely since I can just work from my sprint cup road course setup for most races.

I'm glad you didn't include Motegi West (had a few test laps at our sprint cup specs and didn't like it at all). I would prefer to have ABS for the oval though.

Yeah, Motegi West doesn't happen to be a very interesting track for NASCAR. Even though it has some characteristics of Martinsville and a road course it doesn't feel that fun.

About track choices, me and Tom were talking to each other and he thought it would be good to add another Motegi oval race. I agreed and chose to replace SSR7 as there are no pit lanes and pit strategy would not be a factor on that track.

Tsukuba may be a bit slow and boring, but it's not like we are going to be racing there for more than once. Maybe I will shorten that race as everything seems to go very slow at that track. 35, 30 laps?
 
Less the better at Tsukuba :lol: Just because it's Japanese, it doesn't have to be a cert for the series, you could drop it if you don't like it man. 8 rounds is still a decent amount.
 
Sunday's it is. However, would anyone be alright with a 4:30 PM EST start? I do not want to conflict with NASCAR on TV since I want to catch all of the races.

I'm going to take a peek at the GTP Sprint Cup schedule and decide when we will start the series.

EDIT: How does an August 5th opener sound?

I don't like the idea of no ABS, even for just one track, because if an incident happens directly in front of you, you need to be able to brake on time.
 
I am making a decision to open the lobby at 4:30 PM EST (9:30 PM BST) and to push the racing back to 5:00 PM EST (10:00 PM BST) so we can watch NASCAR on television. With a start at this time, we will be allowed to watch NASCAR races on TV shortly followed by this series. If it is too late for you guys, then I will change back to the original time.

A new schedule may be put into place if given the approval by the drivers of the series. Here is the new schedule that I have planned out:

1. Fuji Opener - Fuji Speedway GT, 35 laps, August 12th.
2. ENEOS 50 - Tokyo R246, 16 laps, August 19th.
3. Route 5 100km - Special Stage Route 5, 27 laps, August 26th.
4. NASCAR Thunder 100 - Suzuka East, 125 laps, September 2nd.
5. Sony 50km - Tsukuba Circuit, 40 laps, September 9th.
6. Nikon Presents: 24 at Motegi - Twin Ring Motegi - East Course, 24 laps, September 16th.
(NO RACE) (on vacation) - September 23rd.
(NO RACE) (on vacation) - September 30th.
7. Bridgestone Tire 100 - Suzuka Circuit, 28 laps, October 7th.
8. Toyota 200 - Fuji Speedway GT, 44 laps, October 14th.
9. Coca-Cola 500 - Twin Ring Motegi - Super Speedway, 200 laps, October 21st.

I would love to join but road courses arn't really my thing.

I have decided to cancel this series due to lack of interest and my lack of hosting skills. I apologize if you wanted to join, but couldn't.

As well, I know that I cannot handle the commitment of hosting a racing series. I will either end up opening the lobby late, forgetting to remind everyone, etc.

You can find me on the circuits of the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series. Thanks for understanding.
 
With the final GTP NASCAR races approaching, slowly reaching season's end, perhaps it would be a good time to 'revive' this series so we could have a series to race in during the off-season.

There are differences, as some rules have been changed, and the schedule will need to be changed as well. Practice, qualifying, and starting times might have to be changed so it can work with most of the participants.
