GTP online behaviour

I just raced against some GTP people, and I must say, i'm not impressed with their behaviour.

Let me tell you first something about myself. I do make mistakes occasionally (who doesn't, but I more often :P), but i'm a very clean driver in the sence that if I see someone behind me who is faster, I let him pass me. If i'm in a corner and someone is next to me, or if I want to take over, I do my utterly best not to make any contact. And if I do hit you, it's not on purpose. I'm still learning how to drive with a wheel and pro physics (this really takes time, and I don't play that much), but i'm getting the hang of it. I'm making less mistakes, and I can keep up more most of the other players.

I thought about joining GTP a few weeks ago but I decided not to, simply because i'm not good enough. I thought I was not worthy, I could picture me GTP players having neck on neck races and I would just be many seconds behind. I always thought that GTP players were very good racers where you could only have much respect for. Untill I met some GTP players online today for the first time, particular the last one. Let me tell you about that last race (I'll do my best to discribe it in English).

We were with a total of 4 players on Fuji Speedway, one GTP player, one guy that would bang into us, one aggressive driver, and myself. The banger left the race very soon, somewhere right after I noticed in my driving mirror that he was banging into the GTP player, and probably lost the duel. The aggressive driver was, well, driving aggressivly. What I mean with aggressive is that he wasn't afraid to make contact. Myself, I was doing my best not to hit any of them, although I did make some contact, but not in a aggressive way. And the GTP player, well, he was taking it out not only on the aggressive driver, by starting to drive aggressive as well, but he was also taking it out on me.

My car was tuned (thanks to clacksman, love his tunes 👍) with more topspeed, so on the long straight part I was faster and when I tried to pass the GTP player he began moving to my direction and forced me almost into the wall. I didn't took any offence by that and kept trying my best not to hit him. And so the race continued, with a constant aggessive duel between the GTP and aggressive player. In the last lap, I was in 3rd place when I saw the aggressive driver taking first place with an aggressive take over, when they and I almost right after entered the chicane. The GTP player tried taking over through the inside, when they made contact with eachother and the aggressive driver got a penalty for that. So from then on it was between me and the GTP player in the last corners.

He stayed first, untill at the straight part, where I was faster, I wanted to pass him when he started to block me what resulted in he hitting me and winning the race. 👎

Now I know that an aggressive driver can bring out the worst in all of us, but do you really have to take it out on the other players as well? If I was in first place and he would have been faster in the last part I would have let him pass me, without a doubt. And I certainly thought a GTP player would do the same. Does this mean that every GTP player behaves like that? Of course not, but my first impressions are far from what I had in mind of a GTP player.

Although i'm sure he will have his own opinion about this race. And perhaps I came over to him as somewhat aggressive, because I do make mistakes. But there is a big difference between making a mistake occasionally and driving aggressivly. You might even say i'm to carefull, and i'm pretty sure that's noticable in game. So for me, there are no excuses as I never even once did an aggressive move.

Blocking people before the finish line is low, this is the first time someone did this to me in GT5P, and I never expected it to be a GTP player.

Have you contacted him via pm?...asking why he behaved like he did?...
If not,do so and find out...

I have had bad experiences with racers from different forems aswell(and also from GTplanet),and solved most of them via talking about what happened...with most of them i have excellent races now whenever i meet them online...

However you will always encounter someone: who has a bad day,had several punter races in a row, maybe had a little bump from you in a previous race, etc etc etc....

But i can assure you that all of the long time members here on GTplanet are clean good racers and dont drive like you just wrote down...but there will be always be than one guy who tries to ruin our reputation!!!!!....
If so,make sure you pm one of our moderators about it and he will take action towards this induvidual for sure...

I really hope you will have some good/clean races with GTplanet members in the future though, because thats what this site is all about!!

cheers,

spyrrari.

I hate punters! Grrrrrr.

I have come across too GTPers that have punted and blocked me - and sadly I forget their names. But the people that grind my gears are the ones who block you time and time again getting you penatlties and the like, and then you keep catching up, and on the last lap they punt you so they win....GRRRRRRR. I don't like to win usually because then I'll get 2mil cr. and an extra window comes up, so when I'm racing against friends I let them win on the final straight - but those punters.....the urge to beat them is soooo great, and I hate it when I don't. Please contact them, and report back here with their response. If its ludicorus, try outing them as well - that usually makes 'em shape up. 👍

Sad to hear this. Being blocked and punted is bad, being blocked and punted by a tagged driver seems double bad, because, exactly like you say: you would think they are tagged because they want to state something with that. And I say to 99% that applies. But then we're all humans. I'd be lying if I'd say I've never lost my rag on the track, and maybe I have too behaved aggressively and/or have given an innocent racer somebody elses medicine. I'm trying, though, we all are.
Nice to see you've done everything right so far, coming here and explaining the situation in a polite, civilized manner, and without giving names 👍. I've been threatend once by a GTP Racer (!) that he'd put me in a wall the next time he sees me on track. Within the forum. So on the very rare occasion you find wrong behavior, on and off the track. But I'm sure with your attitude you'll get it sorted out with that competitor. Take the advice from the others and PM him (her). Funny enough at least half of my PSN Buddies (which I dont know per GT-Planet) are people I met in an unpleasant way....

One more thing: I think you should strongly reconsider joining us. IMO it is not about the pace anyone can do, for me it's purely the ATTITUDE that counts, and the fun of being in a community. These traits you seem to have, pace is not important. Don't think because we've got a few silly letters in front of our PSN we're faster or something better. For me displaying GTP above my car means one thing only: "I'm member of the community and I'm trying my best to have a fair and fun race", nothing else, not that I'm faster, better or that I have right of way.

Hmmmm sounds strange... If I were you I would try and find out what the reason was behind his actions.... Contact that person through PSN and see what kind of response you get. What this person did is out of line and not within the GTP OLR. I can assure you though that long time members and the people that have already posted in your thread here are all clean racers.... 👍 So dont let one bad apple ruin your image of what GTP is... there are around 500 tagged drivers driving for GTP... theres no way to make sure that ALL of those drivers drive clean ALL of the time... even though they should to uphold the spirit of the game and GTP.

On another note...

What Ren said here is completely true... Pace is not the most important thing in racing with GTP.... your attitude is what counts and mutual respect for the other drivers... So joining GTP will only be in your benefit. The more you race the better you get and the pace will come by itself... A GTP tag also gives you the right to take part in WRS ( weekly race series) where you can hone your skills and move up in the ranks.. :D So think about it... and hopefully we see you come aboard as well 👍

Have you checked the registry to see if he is a genuine GTP member? there are those out there that use the tag without being a member here.

I checked the registry and he is a genuine GTP member. I will contact him through PSN and see what he has to say. I'll report back later.

It does annoy me when someone seems intent on driving you off the track just because your car is quicker in a straight line, it sounds like you have been unlucky in your experience with GTP, I've never witnessed any bad behaviour by GTP tagged drivers which was one of the reasons why I signed up to the registry, I hope you can get this sorted out.

I was racing the other week on the standard physics Suzuka 750PP. I was in a Ford GT (not the tuned one) and he was in a clio V6/tuned. He was ahead on the second lap at the entry to spoon curve, but i absolutely nailed the exit and with the power of the GT i was going to pass him easily. Then he started swerving all over the road. I couldn't slow down intime and i got knocked off, hit the grass and spun at the 130R corner :grumpy:

But he got his just desserts, because i caught up on the next lap. At the 130R he was slightly further ahead, but whereas he braked on entry, i only lifted off the throttle and took him on the inside. But because if his slow entry, his line was tight and he got in the way of my line. Partly my fault, and it resulted in me winning the race, but he deserved it after the previous lap. I started at the back of the field and he wiped out at least 3 other cars before i approached him in 2nd place. Aggressive drivers like that are horrible, i hope their itches will always be out of reach and their teeth always be sensitive for the rest of eternity.

If it had been on pro physics my race would have been over on the second lap, because i managed to recover after the spin quite easily and retained 2nd place.

+10000 👍

I'm not the fastest driver, and I don't think I'm a better than someone else because I have three letters before my name. Those letters just mean that I'll do my best to have a clean and fair race. If I hit someone, and that person spins out I'll wait for him and let him pass just to make him know that it was an accident. In fact I am now a better driver than I was before (Thanks to the WRS:sly:)

You should join the GTP registery, and see for yourself.

I haven't played much online, but my experiences of GTP members have all been positive. I'll do my best to avoid contacts as well, but sometimes my skills are not enough, and it will end in contact. Mostly just minor bumps though, haven't had any serious accidents... I'm still learning the car control. Maybe I'll join the registry some day. :)

Sometimes no one wants to lose the race ! Once myself got bumped by 5 diferent GTP members in the same race, but... they´re usually nice guys :)! Id say 85% are nice and respectfull drivers! The bad guys are everywhere, just learn to know them! Just send them a PM and see what they respond! But learn to see who had a bad day and who is always bad ;)! I had great battles with the GTP "greatest drivers" and sometimes i win and sometimes i lose, but the experience is the fun of it 👍! I bet youll change your mind in a near future;)! Resuming GTPlanet is a great forum with many great drivers and a few friends:D!

Odd how i've never encountered any GTP tagged drivers :indiff: I rarely get good clean races.

I did find one guy, who after accidently knocking me off the road at 130R on the last lap, slowed down to let me take the win on the final straight. We were both being clean/avoiding eachother battling for 1st place for about 4 races in a row, i won the first 2, he won the 3rd and he should have won the 4th but he let me pass because of the accident.

Now thats good sportsmanship.

EDIT: I've also recently noticed how hard it is to get a race going in pro physics. All the standard physics races seem to be 6 cars+ every race, but in the past hour i have only come across 1 other person (who was not a clean driver, quite dirty actually, knocking me off the road twice whilst i moved to the outside to let him pass...:ouch:), and that was the 600pp fuji race. And after trying for 15 minutes i didn't find anyone on the 550pp suzuka :(

I've never had a race with more than 6 people. It seems like everyone has moved on to some other game, I guess I should have gotten into online a bit sooner...

Some guys I've seen have raced cleanly, then accidentally knocked me off and continued to race normally as if nothing had happened. Almost all of them have apologized after the race, but I'm kind of expecting them to wait after knocking me off. :indiff:

Racing incidents are not supposed to be discussed here. You can read how to deal with them here, under point 17.
