My fastest lap at the practice session with hasslemoff was 1'22.767
About 0.5 seconds off my WRS week 13 time.

Damn. It was just a 10 lap session but that's terrible haha.

Using my new DFGT, have to really be so careful on corners, the car feels like its on ice. Looks like I need to put some serious time into this.

The car is tricky to drive, keep the wheel inputs small and accurate. If you give it too much input to correct, it will be all over the place.

Are you sure you were on Sports Soft, and not the default Sports Hard?

All new drivers have been added to the 3D3 lounges 👍

Practice tonight will start right after the WRS deadline (2 PM PST / 7PM EST / 12AM GMT) and it tends to go on for several hours so come early, and stay late :D

Gooners, I have this advice for you - Practice, Practice, Practice. :D
Changing to a wheel takes time and patience - lot's of both, especially considering how fast you were with the DS3.
This combo will be tough on the new wheel, that's for sure.

You might want to try the "Pekka" practice method at some point - put Comfort tires on the car and run some laps until you have a good controlled line going - it won't be fast, but that's not the point, it's all about control.
Then move up a tire set, until you are back to Sport Softs.
It's painful at first (really painful), but it really does help IMO 👍

I'm not around to host the later part of practice this week, but the west coasters and east coast night owls are still welcome to stay late and practice in the lounge.

Maz was also D2 Bronze when he made the change from pad to wheel. He ended up getting all the way to D1 Gold. He even kept a diary on the process, have a look. :sly:

His benchmark was the RX-7 Fuji qualifier, where he had an established time on the pad, and then worked at it with the wheel until he beat that time. Then he eventually completely smashed the time. :)

I think the moral is that practicing on a combo that you're comfortable with and have a good understanding of what you need to do to be fast will help aid the adjustment.

This particular combo is probably a 7 out of 10 on the difficulty scale.

Gooners took first in D3 on Gettin Groceries, and that's an easy combo. Maybe practice that with the wheel until you can beat your WRS time. Another one to consider would be Weds Forest, where you were second in D3.

Marc, I already set up the GTP_3D3Racing Lounge if people already want in for some practice...

I'll be at practice around 10:00 PM EST if anyone is still around! Hopefully sooner!!

I spent a bit of time in the lounge tonight with Jake, Blair and Marc. Thanks a lot guys for your tips, they already helped me improve quite a bit 👍

It was great to meet you Dan, we had a fun run... Chuk showed up as promised and we just left the room now (11:45PM EST)! I joined just before 7PM so it was a nice long session.

Good to meet you Jake, Chuk and Dan.

Had a great practice session, and great conversation too.

See you on Wed. for the race.👍

And practice I do . Unfortunately real life takes over and I don't get too much time, though I have brought my lap times down to 1.26.xxx. Hoping some more practice tomorrow will give me more results.

I gotta try the "Pekka" way haha. Definitely going to give this a try tomorrow.

This was a very interesting read. One part definitely struck me was when he says frustration leads to forgetting the fun factor with the wheel, which is what is happening to me right now. I put 10 laps in and I wanna :banghead:.

You do raise a good point, and I shall definitely revisit these WRS events and see where exactly in the corners am I losing out to my WRS ghost.

Also just wanted to say I really appreciate the inputs you guys are giving. Like someone else had said in another WRS thread (can't remember where), this is definitely the best group of online gamers around 👍.

Well I will start it off. 1'22.9xx with penalty system turned on.

Just did a couple of 1'23.9xx on fresh tires, full tank. Penalty on, grip real.

Gooners and Myself are running laps in the Practice lobby 👍
I think my best was in the '25.2xx range, so it's time to step up it would seem :nervous:

If you guys end up with exactly 13 in NA you might want to consider staying in one lobby, but running a rolling start to keep cars spread out or at least minimize the time when everyone is bunched and lag is at its worst. Could still qualify normally and just leave on grid order for formation lap.

If you get 14+ I suggest splitting it if everyone shows up like we did last week. Have everyone show for practice in one lobby and split if required at quali time. If history teaches us anything you'll have a few last minute cancels and will only require one lounge anyway.

Just a thought/suggestion... do whatever works.

If you guys do get a full grid for practice pre-race... you should try something. For just one straight get everyone to jam together in a very tight pack and see if there is lag. The theory is there is no lag in practice. Now this could just be because people are usually spread out in practice and if you get serious lag with 16 tightly bunched that eliminates that. But if you really bunch up as close as a grid start and there is no lag we know it's something specific about race mode -- which is the current assumption -- replay or draft or timing or something else unique to race mode vs free run.

My hope/guess is it's a race mode only issue and thus something that potentially could be addressed with an update. I sure hope we can get back to being able to run full 16 car grids sometime soon.

Just jumping in for a few more practice laps.
Still looking for that elusive '23.xxx

Best I managed tonight practicing with Marc tonight was a 23.1 or 23.2. That was with relatively full tank and tires 4 or 5 laps in.

In race, I got a 23.4 on lap #7.

Once again, I shared all my tips with Marc so he can use them to beat me. :sly:

The teacher in you will not be subdued. Maybe if Marc was a ravens fan you could stop yourself from helping. :sly:

Anxious to see lag/issue reports after the races. The issues are so bad at this point entire series are being postponed or cancelled. Holding out hope we can weather the storm, but hours of practice ruined by network issues is demoralizing.

Just remember guys we will do whatever we can do make the experience as fair and fun as possible. If it came down to it we will run head to head tourney style. Actually that sound kind of fun. Like a heads up poker tourney. If we could figure out how to do it with 4 driver sprints it could actually be interesting and done in an hour... until PD fixes this.

Cancelled my entry. You guys have a good race!

That was actually the basis of all of our previous GTP_Race events. The only time we had more than 2 drivers running were in final "Exhibition" races, that did not count toward final results.

For todays EU race, the field will be split according to divisions.
Lobby assignments:
Divisions 1 and 2 - GTP_3D3Racing....GTP_Hydro is the Host
Divisions 3 and 4 - GTP_3D3_B.........GTP_Sjaak is the Host

Penalties will be on for practice and qualifying to ensure drivers don't cut the chicanes in T1 accidentally or otherwise.
Qualifying is a 15 minute single - stint session. With only 8 and 9 drivers in the lobbies, all drivers can qualify at the same time - just remember to leave sufficient room with respect to other drivers.
The race itself will not have penalties on, but drivers - as always - are expected to run clean laps.

Good Luck everyone 👍

How many do we have in tonight's EU race guys? The registration form isn't popping up in the event details.
