I'm probably going to get some track time tonight. I may try running this race ABS off and if I'm really crazy from cockpit with the tach and gear indicator turned off. I've now done a couple of R1600Turbo's ABS off races and they were great experiences. The last one was in the FRS and we all agreed to cockpit and HUD off beforehand, well except one driver. The immersion was awesome and makes the game even more satisfying. I've never tried it in a racecar, though, so we'll see how it goes. I'm sure my speed will be down a little if I do it, but I'll sacrifice some if it's a cool experience.

Exactly how I feel about the 'full experience' as well. It doesn't make the game easier, nor does it make me faster, but it is just so cool!

If you want a great test, run the F1 seasonals in cockpit view with the hud, map and all aids off - including ABS. It's not the easy way to do it, but I think it is by miles the most fun 👍

You guys are sick! I would find myself backwards more often than I am now and that is alot!

Sounds just like iRacing.

I like running the F1 cars in cockpit view in GT5, very nice and realistic field of view. I've tried running with no ABS in GT5, not very realistic in my opinion. Brakes lock far to easily, worst than iRacing. But hey, if anyone can drive with no ABS my hats off to them.

The problem with cockpit view in online racing is the lack of mirrors in some cars. I think it would be great to do all the online events in cockpit view if it weren't for the mirror issue.

I can drive without ABS with my DS3 and I'm not even a very good DS3 driver. You only have to adjust the brake balance, by doing that you can adjust with how much brake pressure the tires lock up.
The only thing that keeps me from doing it is that I need all the tenths I can get to keep up with the aliens. The driving itself may be more fun but nothing compared to a good battle.:)

EDIT: Not that I'm that much slower without ABS but it's worse on tire wear and it's difficult to outbrake your opponent.

I can't use cockpit view. I'm not comfortable with it as I can never see where the placement of the car is through the corners, and the overall lack of mirrors in most cockpit views. Mostly the inability for me to see where I'm putting the car in the corners causes a lack of confidence and slows me down.

I think you'd be fast with no brakes. :sly:

As far as keeping up with the aliens, I consider you to be right there amongst them. :)

I don't know how anyone can drive with a DS3, it always blows me away how fast some guys are with them.

I hope to get into iRacing at some point, first I would need to improve my computer. I'm also really interested in Project Cars. The online aspect of it sounds like everything I want GT to become, with driver swaps, racing teams and leagues, etc. I just hope it feels nothing like NFS Shift.

I can assure you Cars feels nothing like Shift. My one and only experience with Shift was Shift 2, which I removed from my PC soon after I bought it.

Project Cars is still in alpha build stage. The handling keeps improving a bit with each update. Not were it could be yet, but far better than Shift 2. The graphics are truly amazing, the best I've seen in any sim.

I just happens I'm downloading the latest build as I'm typing this, 3.4gb.

I'm thinking of upgrading my graphics card soon, just to get the most out of what Cars has to offer. GeForce 680 with 4gb ram, want to go triple screens in the not to distant future. :)

After 2 disastrous endurance races (4 if you add the CALM races as well), it's time to step up my game.

I'm determined to finish this enduro (not in last place).:sly:

40.6xx in the LMP  I'm struggling to get within 2 seconds of that

Edit: Sorted

Nice lap, I didn't think my lap would hold for long.

I guess all those laps I've done on this track with iRacing in the Dallara Indy car has helped.

Bad news though, on my GT2 wheel, the righthand paddle shifter just broke. The lower pivot point busted loose. I heard something rattling inside the wheel and jam the shifter paddle. I'll have to dig out the old GT3 wheel to use untill I can get something else. The paddle shifters on that are pretty worn out too.

I was hoping to have the new Clubsport wheel by now, but it's looks I'll have to wait a couple months for that (not holding my breath though).

Maybe I'll just order the CSR wheel, that has much better paddle shifters than the Porsche style wheels.

That fanatec release of the CSW looks like a complete fiasco. I had thoughts of ordering one myself after a few months of people beta testing them, but after the release issues it destroyed my confidence and I'm staying clear for a while. Still looks like a nice product, but I'll give them at least 9 months before laying out that much cash.

I'll be launching my F1 wheel for my T500 when I return in 8 days. 👍

I think I'll wait on the CSW for awhile myself. Usually better not to buy the first production runs anyway. Plus Thomas said he was going to crank up production to meet demand. Looks like a quality piece though, and I hope the early buyers don't have any issues.

Just ordered the CSR wheel. The old GT3 just isn't going to cut it.

Got my DLC today, only run the 2 LMP cars so far, will give the GT's a go soon and decide which I want to use.

Nice lap Blair.👍

Trying to tune this car..

Going to set up the lounge for some practice.

EDIT: Done for the night.

I'm going to jump in for a bit of practice. Feel free to join in 👍

Going in lounge for some practice for a while if anyone would like to join.

Sorry Twissy last night got DC'd and called it a night.

Im using Praiano63 tune with a few tweeks for the R8 LMS Race Car (Team PlayStation) '09 if anyone wants to have a try with it, I got a 49.3 with it up to now.

Setup:

Max aero

Suspension
-28/-17
16.8/18.0
8/8
7/5
6/5
1.8/1.6
-0.20/-0.02

LSD
8/24/11

Brakes
3/1
ABS 5

Transmission

I've messed around with the tranny a bit so I dont if you will get the exact figures.

I think I took max speed to 124 first then lowered final gear to 2.257. Then alter the gears individual.

1st: 4.959
2nd: 3.647
3rd: 2.940
4th: 2.440
5th: 2.054
6th: 1.799
Final: 2.257

Max speed in top right corner 183mph

Hope it helps.

I'll go with the GT class for this one, just tinkered with my own tune so far, and managed a 1'51.3xx in GT mode practice. Thanks for posting your tune Hasslemoff, I'll give it a go next time I'm on.

To submit a practice lap do I need to do it in the lounge? (just the way it's stated makes it seem that way)

Should be online at official race specs in free run mode. The practice times don't count for anything official, but to give competitors and idea how they stand. Including split times and/or info on tune/bb can also help... It's just all about us helping each other out and optional.

I understand that it doesn't count for anything but like you say, I like to know where I stand roughly, Will try out Hasslemoff's tune for my next session and see if I can beat my current time, just chasing my ghost at the minute.

I'll run a practice time after.

Thanks.

It doesn't need to be in our 'official lobby' Chris. But it does need to be an online lap with all the regs setup correctly.
If you are chasing your ghost I'm guessing you've been running offline?
Most drivers never practice for races offline due to the offline/online physics differences.

Just registered :) hope the LMP is the slowest of the 2 classes or I'm in big trouble :)

Noob question though, what do I do now?

First of all, welcome to the series!

LMP is the fastest of the two classes.
You can always try the LMP Quali and if you're not comfortable, change your registration to GT.

What to do now = practice and prepare. :)

Also, I'm on my phone now, therefor not able to check if you did all the correct steps as a firsttimer. Will do as soon as I can get to a pc.

Welcome! You are already on the GTP_Registry so first pre-requisite is taken care of and there are a couple more more "one-time" step you have to take to register for the online events:

The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):

I saw your registration submission for both Saturday support races and your name will appear in the driver registration image as soon as you take care of the 2 steps above.

Note: I did not see your registration for the Sunday enduro race. Not sure if that's what you had intended, but if so that's fine. Drivers can take part in either or both. If you do want to run that component of the event there is a separate registration post/form for the Sunday Enduro. [EDIT: I notice now you are from AU which probably explains why you aren't racing Sunday because it's Monday for you!].

Once your friend requests have been accepted by the lounges you can join us for any events and/or practice. Drivers will post to this thread when they are joining the lounge and your welcome to join them or start up the lounge yourself and post here to let others know. Your welcome to post your best practice laps to the practice leaderboard, but that's optional. Either way that leaderboard can give you an idea where you stand going into qualifying.

Starting later this week the qualifying window opens so the first step is to practice hot lapping. It's highly likely we'll have two lounges for the enduro race and you'll be assigned a lounge based on your qualifying position in your class. Fastest drivers from LMP and GT class will race in lounge A and the rest will race in lounge B. Even if you are only running the Saturday races you'll still need to qualify, but most likely we won't have enough drivers for either support race to run two lounges.

Feel free to ask any follow up questions. Many drivers here willing to lend a hand.

Expect to see the activity pick up quite a bit in this thread once the qualifying window opens.
