GTP WTAC Week 37 : Mustang R's

*** Ford's SVT (Special Vehicle Team) is responsible for creating the 300 units of the Cobra R that were made available to the public. These 385 HP/385 lbs-ft torque cars are the absolute top-of-the-line street legal Mustangs. The Cobra R's were always meant to be race ready cars that could be driven to and from the track (and not carried on a trailer). Three key physical features that set it apart from a normal Mustang are the large front spoiler, the very angular rear wing, and the noticeably large domed hood. A 170 MPH (274 KM) top speed is achievable in this high performance version of an American classic. The 1965 Shelby GT350R is one rare, but famous, race car in North America. Only 36 were ever built and only 25 are still around today. Buying one would set you back at least $750,000 USD. This was an absolute beast in the SCCA and was specifically designed to beat one car - the Chevrolet Corvette. In this instance, the 'hit man' was successful at taking out it's mark. ***

In GT4 (whose 'photo mode' I use), I currently own the 1965 Shelby GT350R, but I'd need to skip about 550 days for the Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R to be available in the 'Used Car' lot. Needless to say, that's a long time (about four hours of just entering an event, and then backing out... repeatedly) and I won't be able to photograph that car. If anyone cares to do the honors, the stage is all yours!

So, are we going use the normal rules for rumblestrips or are we going to use the same ''just no sparks'' rule we used at Opera Paris in week 32?

:DSome benchmark times - (tuned Elanor a little but the Corba is still standard)

GT350R 1'50.high
SVT COBRA 1'48.low

It's almost irresistible to drift the Shelby!:D

I though Eleanor was a Shelby GT500.

Also I've read about a special rule regarding the massive kurbs in New York, can anyone explain this to me?

Normally on city courses, we allow the cars to go anywhere as long as no sparks appear... NYC is a bit of a special case as it has a plethora of 90 degree turns. Those sharp, right-angles create curbs that stick way out. Our rules will be to keep at least two tires on (or directly over) the tarmac. Last time we used New York, half the racers were disqualified (myself included!) because we weren't careful enough in reviewing our replays. Only one person was DNQ'ed for shortcutting over the curbs, but all the rest of us accidentally scraped a wall/railing at some point. Please make a point to watch your replays in the third-person 'chase cam' (the one where you can see your whole car in front of the camera) before submitting your times!

On a side note, I am uploading the time calculator that easyasashii found a long time ago: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F8H4B44V

If you don't have one, this is a good, small, and free program to easily add our times up.

:)

I haven't ever touched either car in GT PSP (but I did run one lap of the Shelby GT350R in GT4 so I could take some photos). I'm curious to find out how they handle!

i remembered new york reverse before. i put a lot of time on it only to get disqualified. hahaha. i hope i qualify this week. :)

I did manage a 1:46.5xx the Cobra R but I scraped the wall at the last corner. I'll post the replay because I want to make sure I'm not cutting the curbs.

Welcome to WTAC! Very nice starting times!!!:)

Got a clean 1'47.1xx with the COBRA!

That's a tough time to beat! I think I'm gonna get pwned this week. Hahahaah!!!

I ran about 5-7 laps with each car last night: 1'49.xxx with the Shelby GT350R and 1'47.6xx with the Mustang SVT Cobra R.

I hope to put in a bit longer of an effort this evening before I fall asleep!

I just finished a short session with the cars. I got a 1'46.599 with the Mustang SVT Cobra R and a 1'48.731 with the Shelby GT350R. I saved the replays because they both felt like clean laps. Only when I exited out and decided to watch both replays via the 'Replay Theater' did I notice that both laps had a moment when I barely scrapped a wall (so lightly that I never noticed) and saw the fateful & dreaded sparks.

:ouch:

same here. 1^48.xxx and 1^46.xxx both scraped an outside wall.

Best I got so far was 1'45.7xx but when I checked my replay i found this on corner 4...

Definitely off, isn't it?

The rest of the lap is clean:grumpy:

Technically, it could be OK if the two back tires were still on the tarmac... but I think it's likely, in a few milliseconds after that photo was taken, that three of the tires would be off the tarmac.

That's a spirit crusher, pvr! I did a low 1'46 with the SVT Cobra R last night and just KNEW that I had a clean lap. Watching the replay showed me that I just got a bit too wide on the last turn and a single spark appeared. I was so crushed I just put the PSP down - I just couldn't do anymore laps at that point and needed to go to sleep!

ha ha ha

Even if the back tires were on the track I wouldn't feel good about this lap:grumpy:

Man, I know the feeling Detroit. Today a actually managed to get ahead of that ghost 3 times and every time I took the very last corner to tight and hit the wall. 3 times, it kind of made me feel like crying.

Welcome to WTAC Korza493! 👍

I just ran my first laps with the SVT and found it hard to go below the 1'50 mark... and some of you are talking about 1'45 now :scared: and I thought, men I 'm really bad at city tracks then. but I read the rules again and noticed I used S2 tyres instead of R1 :dunce::lol:

I'll post some update tonight, see you later!:)

Ok, finally got a clean 1'45.high hotlap! I dont think i'll be able to do much better than this.I think MVR and Dan could get it under 1'45.1xx.

sausages!!!

Good to see you here again!

👍

Cheers  Good to be back 👍

That Shelby's a slidey little bugger isn't it! Could only just scrape below 1'50 so far... I hope to get that down a bit but my time is very limited.
