GTP WTAC Week 57 : Family Reunion

*** I called this week's challenge "Family Reunion" because these two cars are built off of the same platform at the same factory in England. They are, in effect, either siblings (brothers or sisters) or, at the very least, cousins. Both are lightweight mid-engine, rear wheel drive cars with good performance. The main difference is the the external styling - the Opel Speedster (and the English sold Vauxhall VX220) was a product of a General Motors design team. It featured a bit more angular lines than the curvier Lotus Elise. I couldn't find a Lotus Elise that had the same performance as an Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220, so I just chose the highest performance production versions in the game. I'm going to have a hard time with this challenge as I don't know how to properly tune mid-engine/rear wheel drive (MR) cars... but I'll truly enjoy watching the replays as both cars are beautiful! ***

Some preliminary times, 20 + laps with both cars and some tuning...

Elise 2'16.118
Speedster 2'22.035

Now I remember why I loved the Elise so much in GT 2! I can't believe I haven't driven it yet in GT PSP.

I haven't driven either yet, but I feared that the heavier Opel Speedster Turbo wouldn't be able to stick close to the Lotus Elise 111R - it looks like pvr's times confirm that. At least I'll enjoy watching the replays because I like the look of both cars a lot.

Did a couple of more serious laps with both cars today and improved my times quite a bit...

Elise 2'14.4xx
Speedster 2'18.8xx

Congratulations on choosing a fantastic cars/track combo Detroit! My favorite part of this track is from turn 4 to turn 7, especially in the Lotus with the engine screaming it feels really good! The replays are also pretty cool to watch. 👍

^Hey Vaughan, here's my tune for the Elise and a ghost for you to chase! :sly:

You may want to set the front toe to around -15 or so for more stability around corners....

Thank you! Unfortunately I am on a business trip leaving my usb wire at home...
I will follow your turning advice and try if I can have a different feeling. I guess I always brake too hard, when come across the narrow almost 180 degree turn, which makes the car nearly stop before I can change the direction.
Perhaps I ought to enter the turn entry from the most outside of the street with a low speed, and brake hard heading to the very inside of the turn, and throttle gradually when the head of the car is heading towards the exit of turn.

Two plans to conquer the 180 degree turn as below,
a) drive along the outside of track during the entire turning, that is out-out-out driving line, with a speed at 20-30 kmph.
b) drive along the inside of the track when enter the turn, brake hard till the car passes the inside wall for the turn for a half car body where the speed should decrease to almost 0 kmph. Then steer hard to change the car head for nearly 180 degree...and throttle again.(seems impossible??..)

Which way is Better(or Correct)?

Option a is better, but I treat these corners like any other - I go with a ''out in out'' strategy and at the apex my speed is between 27 and 32 kpm. (with the Elise I'm in 1st gear but I leave the Speedster in 2nd)

got some photos to share with the elise later tonight...
I was able to get some laps running again.
2'19.xxx so far

It´s really a shame I really want to participate in this challenges and I never have both cars. In this Case I only have the lotus. -.-
Too bad cwcheat doesn´t work on my psp to make some quick money.

I don´t know if I can make it this week but will try.

Started to run the speedster with 1´17.xxx times, I can see a 1,16.xxx but time constrains may prevent me from reach it. Haven´t run the Lotus yet so hard work this weekend for me.

@ gtfan007, you can get cwcheat to work on any psp. Check out the latest official PRO-B7 update (for all firmware versions).

P.s. my offer still stands to walk you through it, just PM me and ask. :sly:

^Yes, its switch. Awfully lonely here this week, isn't it?

Yeah, you can almost hear a pin drop on the ground!

I tried more laps last night, but was thwarted by the Elise's oversteer and the track's walls. I failed to get any improvements!

EDIT: I just saw red ice's pictures - great job!!

Playing GT5 shows just how terrible I am at GTPSP pro physics, I dont know if its the game physics or just controller issues. I can drive a stock Elise fine in GT5 but when I drive it in GTPSP it really behaves differently.
:(
