Well to be honest, my wife and I where arguing about how my free time is spent on a game. She also said no grown up man should play a game, so I just slung my ps3 down the hall and said problem solved. Ps3 works but gt5 doesn't. Anyway, congratulations everyone that got a podium. Looked like a very close week

If it helps, almost everyone in the WRS is a "grown up man" (whatever one of those looks like). I'm 39, married with 2 kids...and I'm a WRS addict!

I think its actually 4 races, not sure. You can get a double promotion though, I do know that. At any rate Holty, don't worry about things as far as me. I've vented, expressed my dissatisfaction, and moved on. 👍 Everything is cool and just look forward to competing with and learning from you.

Just keep performing the way you have mate, you're doing all the right things. Nice way to finish that TT with only a few hours to put in a time with a full spec car, well done 👍

Ok fellas, I'll just crack on.. probably not going to be up as high this week so hopefully I won't skew the results as much! 👍

Congrats to all winners

here is my replay

Also, I'd like to know why my handicap isn't negative even though I won by over a tenth and was the only guy in the 1:46s

The algorithm I use strives to provide a zero average handicap for the entire field. There are several mappings that provide this result, some of which would have given you a negative handicap, some of which would give you a larger positive handicap. This is especially important for D4 and D5 in low participation weeks, when otherwise they wouldn't really have an ability to compare their result with any sort of expectation. We also attach a higher weight to those in D1 and D2, under the assumption that as you approach the limit, the variability goes down (there's plenty of evidence to support this).

You did well: you won overall, you beat GTP_PASM, who has a lower handicap (and thus was expected to do better than you). Most everyone else in the field would have been quite happy to have your result!

I introduced the handicap system (and handicap results output) to give everyone, at all ability levels, the chance to compare how they did in this race, relative to their own personal benchmark. Because of the way that the system works, those in the higher numbered divisions have more potential to have a breakout and totally blow away their handicap (e.g. Holty), but this is a sign that they are making improvements and will soon move into a tougher field.

I know that the system isn't perfect, but I do stand by the mathematical modeling and believe it to be more impartial than a system guided by gut feel.

I understand that. I've been around here long enough to know how things work. I just think this is an extreme case, that's all. I also have all the focus and motivation I need to improve, that is not the issue here. I mean, I guess I could say the same back to you then when it comes to your concern. Don't worry about the handicap results or why you didn't receive a negative result, just focus on being the best you can be. I realize you are already highly skilled, but there is always room for improvement. ;) Not taking a shot at you, but it just sounds like you are trying to diminish my concern as compared to yours in not receiving a negative handicap. Anyway, at some point, I am sure we will both be told to shut up and stop whinning. At least me anyway.:sly: At any rate, I'll end my concern here so that the Admins won't have to. 👍 I'll go back to shutting up and just posting my times...like a good little minion. (Accepting and respecting the Admins answers to my concern and moving on)

Fair enough! :) When I get round to it I'll make a lap guide for this combo and put it up to help everyone! 👍

That would be greatly appreciated. I'm really interested in seeing where and why I was losing time in certain sectors. Also, congrats on your win and awesome lap.

@Vaxen: Thanks for the further explanation of how the handicap system works. And just to be clear, my complaint wasn't with your system, it had to do with another matter. I just don't want you to think, from my earlier rantings, that I had a problem with it. I can appreciate the time and effort that must have went into coming up with it and the system itself seems to be doing what it was designed for, from what I understand of it anyways. So, thank you for taking the time to come up with it.

Congratulations to everyone who reached his goal.
Here's my replay, close call at the last corner :nervous:

All nice clean laps

Freddy, hope you don't mind me commenting. Your lap was super clean but you were really cautious through the turns and didn't use enough of the track so lost a lot of time braking too much for turns and not getting the power on soon enough. Always try to use rumbles strips or track beyond white lines when it gives you an advantage into a turn i.e. making it a less severe turn, that way you can carry more speed into the turn and with a better line through the corner you'll see your exit earlier and will be able to hit the gas sooner. It was a really nice lap though so well done! 👍

Well, I'm 50, but not grown up :dopey:

I've had similar arguments with my gf, my classic response is "it's not a game, it's a simulator!". :sly:

I justified by saying it was both cheaper and safer than a real race car!

Here is my replay, I'm not sure if I'll have time to make a lap guide for this, but feel free to watch my lap as much as you want. I found being smooth on this one helped, I used 6/6 BB and trail braked quite a lot. With the throttle I tried to avoid sharply applying it, so to avoid spinning up the inside wheel and turning some of the power of the car into smoke!

Both nice and clean, couldn't see much evidence of trail braking though John ;)

Darn it, I tought you were going to put up a video like Chris usually does. I can't watch PAL replays.

Congrats on the win Bandit, didn't waste time putting up slow splits, just went straight to the top.

Nice one Matt with the monster final sector.

I haven't had much luck with these stock combos, hopefully it's just a short term issue. Oh well.

Thanks for the check! 👍 Maybe just in the first and last corners, and the corkscrew, but generally I was being quite gentle with the brakes! :P

Ahh, sorry, I forgot that, in that case, I'll film my lap, give me a few days to get it up though as I'm quite busy! :)

Carlos I'm a 53 year old grandpa (hate the sound of that) that still plays. dont let it get to you too much. I've found that my reflexes are just as good as many years ago and attribute it to gaming. keep it up but just have your set time. everyone has a hobby and this is not different!!

Not a problem. I can wait.

Don't worry SoCal I have no issues and my wife positively encourages my racing. It was more Brandon I think that had the problems

👍

my apologies Carlos. I just get to upset when someone asks why we do this do this and its a kids game. they have no idea of the detail and complexity. Hope Brandon can over come it and keep playing!!!

socal,

I don't see you on the Official Registry.
If you want to join us, just put a few hours into the GTP_Registry qualifier. 👍:mischievous:

We'll all have a new qualifier to run in GT6, so I realize it's a bit late, but hey, consider it a practice run. :D

PS> Qualifier times must be kept secret, by the way. 👍

Yea, to my wife it's just a game, no matter how I explain it. Should be all sorted out though. If not, I'll have to strangle her with the wireless controller.
