You run in auto ? Wow! You might wanna try and learn manual, because in my opinion its definatley worth at least 0.250 if not more, I feel it just gives an advantage on allowing you to shift whenever, whether that be short shifting through a corner to stabilize or revving it to the maximum to get bit more speed out of it. I know I definatley used some of those techniques in the Merc recently, who knows give it a try? Just my thought:tup:

I may do, especially now that you say you can get .25 out of it :dopey: I've always realised that manual can be more efficient for the corners, but every time I try I'm much slower. It just seems like too steep a learning curve. When I get a wheel, I'll definitely learn manual, but for now I'll probably stick to what I know.. although when the time comes and I really need the extra .2 secs, I may just use it ;)

MT doesn't make all that of a difference and on pad AT is usually faster (since you can focus entirely on your lines).
MT only gives you more control, it's up to you to take advantage of that given control.

Thanks a lot 👍

Btw, you guys want to know a crazy fact? I run in auto too ;) Manual is too much distraction for me, at least on a DS3 anyway.

I have heard so many times to switch to manual because it's so much faster. I have placed in the top 250 in several of the seasonals with as many as 70 to 80 thousand guys in them. This is in the top .02% to .03%, not top 2 or 3%, but top zero point zero 2 percent. That's not too bad is it? I also finished 26th I believe in the Coultard/mercedez challenge for the Americas.

All of this using auto transmission. It may be that I could have won the event using a manual, but Turismo Lester probably wouldn't have allowed that!:) He would have just ran faster!

Point is, the system shifts pretty much where it shoud and always seems to put the car in the appropriate gear. I have looked at telemetry comparing my auto against manual and except for a few upshifts or downshifts here and there, have found them to be quite comparable.

I am 57 going on 58 and just don't have the reflexes or concentration anymore to worry about shift points. It also requires good hearing to hear when to shift. All the years at the race track have taken a toll on my poor ears, and the little woman doesn't like hearing "all the screaming mosquito" noise so I pretty much drive in silent mode. Just barely loud enough to hear the wheels scream on hard corners.

Anyway, I know that's way too much info for you guys, but I really do appreciate the input and hope you will continue to throw suggestions my way. So far, this has been the only league I have been in where there seems to be a genuine effort from the members to help others learn how to go faster.

Now, on to the races:cheers:

I decide from week to week if I use AT or MT. I tried MT but I wasn't faster, so I stayed with AT this week. On some cars like the Suzuki SX4 WRC, which we used on week 39 (Rome Reverse), MT is a lot faster than AT. Cars with such a power curve need to be short shifted. With MT you were about 5 km/h (3 mph) faster at the finish line compared to AT.

Well done every one, congrats to all the podium winners. This was a blast as my first WRS and only a couple of days to work on it after my qualifying times were approved I have learnt one thing. I need more practice :odd:

And thanks too ConRollins for reviewing my replay

Good run. Could have been much faster but overshot the hairpin braking point.

Thanks ConRollins for checking. Consistency has been my problem. I do well in one corner, but then mess up the next. Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated.

I'm a not quite a 16-year-old younger than you, and slower anyway, so make of this what you will, but I went through this a while back on controller.

1. Some cars need manual upshift badly. This isn't actually the biggest problem IMHO, you can just avoid them, or deal with it.
2. Some cars, which is actually a larger set, need manual downshift badly - I'm thinking of anything skittish on throttle lift or downshift. Anything that needs rev-matching or heel-toe is a problem. And that's apart from cornering gear selection which is manageable with careful throttle/brake technique in AT to an extent.

Both of those are probably manageable with settings or technique, which both you and Biffy have in spades; since going MT, I've developed a bad habit of using gears to turn a bit too much; and it is a distracting headache working out the best toolset to use on a car, since the options added are pretty large.

However, the sound thing I had as well, for the same reasons, and were why I didn't cut over sooner - I wound up using headphones (wife/son sleeping while I'm playing). Even if you don't go with MT, do that - the game is more enjoyable as a result. Roof cam is particularly noisy!

From a 52, going on 53, I hear ya :). I also drive on auto mostly and need all my concentration to keep on the line. c63 has 7 gears and I just can't keep up with them. Like someone else said, while MT gives you control, it is up to you to make use of that. Personally, I'm nowhere near that.

I do make exceptions once in a while. Have been running the Nurburgring time trial and with only 3 gears, 2J is manageable on manual. With AT, it seems to not downshift at some critical points and lose a bit of time. At the moment sitting at 306 (and falling) with a 6'16.8xx. Trying hard to get below 6'15

I'm 73 going 74 and still shift, can't do near as well with autotrans. Please excuse me for butting in! :nervous:

You're not butting in, merely stating that it is not really an age issue, but one of preference. We appreciate any and all input.:)

Wow, you're only 55 years older than me. ;)
Huge respect for that!

I feel like a kid now. ._.

I'm 25, I thought I was the only one with this auto transmision disease. On the DS3 I'm not able to change gears properly. However, I'm starting to learn how to use the g27 and the manual transmision. I think this TT made me a little better with all the practice. I was able to reduce my DS3 time by 0.5XX. It's like I'm better at getting the feel of what the car is doing. I'm not sure but I think that downshifting properly made me brake harder on the first turn. Also letting go slowly the brakes seemed to be a must here.

On the seasonal TT on nurb I managed to get a 6'08:8xx position 42 so far. Manual and g27. DS3 and automatic are definetly slower for me here. I think I'm finally making the change. But I think I'll end up in a much worse position on the seasonal even if I know I can still reduce my time by 0.8x at least.

Got to love how GT brings the ages together I don't know of any other game that has a large mature player community.

Oh buy the way I am 45 and my dad still races as well and he is 70 I am trying to convince him to join the fun in the WRS

I'm 73 and am a newbee to GTPlanet's TT's and love the competition! I've played Gran Turismo since the beginning.

That's because you're old enough to have been around since "the beginning":D

Enjoy you're teens young'un, you only get one chance. Are you going to enter this TT? I didn't see you on the Leaderboard.

Not sure yet. I am sucking real bad with the RX7, hate this track, and dont have the money to buy the LMP. I will borrow one from my other account tonight and see if I can do anything with it, but I don't have much hope of getting any thing decent out of it.

I have never been able to get any where competitive on this track for some reason no matter the type of car.

I'll try a few setups and see how it goes.

I'll be 49 soon, but I still don't think of myself as being very mature! (I guess it's true what Firecracker was saying: 50 and under, you're still a kid.) I sometimes think of others as being old before I realize they're younger than me :)
