Why did this competition even go down?

Anybody can run a faster lap with grip than drifting given the same car specs...



ps. i've noticed how many drifters grew very cocky. not pointing fingers but yea. just my $.02

Well, as I see it. The entire premise for this thing was "Initial D". Now that's just a plain BAD premise for a challenge in GT4. The rest, is self explanitory.

Needless to say, there won't be anymore challenges like this while I'm here. I just did this one to show how futile the entire thing is.

Oh boy... I was just stating that both of you could have worked a bit harder on your entries... Could you not have done better?... There is no hate about it... I just think if you're going to make a huge deal about something you should put a lot of effort into it... Both of you (admittedly) did not do so... That's all...

This challenge was pretty silly to start with, and probably never should have happened... I don't think I'm the only one here with such an "opinion"...

Good luck on your next challenge, if you decide to do any more...

Sorry if I seemed harsh. It's just that I'm getting sick of hearing that I can't do this or can't do that. It's like every time you speak up around here somebody's there to mash you in the nuts.

And yes, I did not work hard at it.

Drifting has always been a subjective sport. If your going to come on the forums and submit things, you should be willing to take any and all criticism.. be it good, bad, insulting, or misunderstood. Thats just how it is around here. There are no finite objective ways to score drifting, so most comments are based on opinions. So you should really take them with a grain of salt so to speak.

In addition to this, I'd like to add something that is not directed to you in particular Captain Trips Why would you enter a competition, no matter how futile or non-sensical(is that even a word? :P) and not try your best? Do you guys not have any pride in what you submit? Whether your drifting or grip driving... or both, you should always put your best foot forward and show the community what you have to offer. Otherwise whats the point of showing people your videos?

That's about it right there. I really couldn't believe the lack of effort on both parts in the "challenge"

I'm ashamed. Am I the only person who know's how to LISTEN to a car? And I don't mean with my ears!! Any time you make the car do something it doesn't want to do it slows it down. Be that getting sideways OR staying straight. SOMETIMES A CAR WANT'S TO GET SIDEWAYS, and if you don't let it, it slows you down. Therefore, I don't differentiate between grip and drift racing. Anytime a car is anywhere near the edge of traction it is drifting, WHETHER YOU'RE SIDEWAYS OR NOT. To "grip" race, you would have to be going so slow that all 4 tires would have 100% traction.

Now don't get me wrong 'cause I know the SPORT of drifting is judged based on angle, speed, and racing line. But the act of sliding a tire can happen at any speed at any angle, even 0 degrees of angle. When I race, I do what the car want's so sometimes I get sideways because that is the fastest way around the turn for that car in that situation. Next time into that turn the car may want to understeer and I let it because that is now the fastest way around the turn. If I wan't to show drift all I have to do is change my driving style and VIOLA!!!!! Sideways all the time and a VERY SLOW lap time.

In conclusion, GRIP VS. DRIFT is an undefined battle. Some cars always want to take turns sideways which would make drifting faster for that car. Other cars always want to slightly understeer which makes drifting VERY, VERY slow for that car. So the challenge is so biased by the car at hand that you can't say that one is trully faster than the other by running one car with different drivers. Truth is SOMETIMES sideways is faster, SOMETIMES not being sideways is faster. All depends on driving style and car setup.

*Note* Also you guys are trying for best lap time, one sideways, and one not. And neither one of you put in a decent lap. WTF??!! Listen to the car, and drive with a style that gets the car to want what you want and you can put in a good lap time, sideways or not.

Just for both of you nice guys, I spent over 3 hours drifting Grand Valley Speedway until I got a replay that I liked. I'm posting the pictures from is as I upload the video.

Not to be mean, but your digging yourself into a very deep hole, I've seen many people like you do this and it ends up with them being stuck in a hole. 👎

Its nice that you've gone to extra lengths to prove yourself to them.... but unfortunately the competition is over, and you've already disgraced yourself. Do you think posting this video somehow makes you look better in some way? The respect is already lost. You decided to not take the competition seriously, and therefore these were the responces you got. Nothing you can do at this point would make up for what is already submitted. Don't you think you should have thought about this before you submitted your video?

This post is proof that it's getting too far out here lol, it almost sounds like he's going to end in an emotional depression man, big hole, lol not. You should also remember some rational logical thinking, not any wise words like lifewater: Just know when to quit.

So, swift, quit/close this thread, we know the results now, thats all we really need rather then letting captain trips get "stuck in a big hole".
