But I would REALLY like to be able to adjust the gearing, I think it is one of the finer arts involved in GT4 racing, and can make a MASSIVE difference to how a car handles and to the lap-times that can be achieved.

Is there a specific reason why it isn't allowed, or was it just an arbitrary decision to make the racing closer?

Neil
It was decision made specifically for close, equal racing.

Sammi, girl, you got skills! I envision you doing those times completely sideways, of course. :)

13.646 / 30.833 / 58.019 quickest, a nice smooth lap.

I'm putting in consistent sub 58.5s, but my average (due to mishaps) is closer to 58.8. No real analysis yet, but I'm studying the Clio.

It likes a balanced throttle, I have found - just like powerful roadcars. However, unlike powerful roadcars, it doesn't spit you off into the scenery if you get it wrong, it either pushes wide and you back off to tighten the line, or you've clipped a kerb or grass on a tighter exit and it goes squirrelly for a moment, and you can catch it all up easily if you are sensible. Nice. :)

Here's my first contribution.

T1 - 13'574

T2 - 30'604

Lap Time - 57'557

Happy racing.

I'm just using a computer table as my cockpit as i have no money or time to build a cockpit.....Maybe just find another way to replace the cockpit so that the pedal doesn't feel cramped.

I still want to see everyones lap times. I wonder how good you guys are as i never raced with other people before :indiff:
Anyway, as to my driving, heel/toe is doable with my setup, but completely wrecks my knee! (Too many full kit runs/assault courses/shooting comps when I was in the Army, and too many slips/slides when playing county level squash/badminton/rugby when I was younger)
So, I do left-foot brake!
I'm a DFP/LFB(Driving Force Pro/Left Foot Braking) type driver myself in case anyone is wondering.:sly:

As for the kind of cockpit, I'm using a computer table as well. Although the position of the pedals on the floor king of gives me more of a seated angle that makes it look like sitting up at a obtuse angle to the floor(about 120 degrees-ish?). I was thinking of giving a shot at buliding my own cockpit. But I'll have to look into what it would cost for the materials. So I might go for a temporary fix by making a makeshift platform for the pedals so that they could be raised off of the floor and give me a more driver-like position at my computer desk.;)👍

BTW Neil, what kind of cockpit setup do you have?

Hot laps are OK for a quali session, but to be honest I got extremely bored with hot-laps almost every week. Unless you are a dedicated hot-lap (or as I like to call them Fluke-lap) officianado, like HotBoy or Holl, they just get monotonous, dull and have a very short life-span for entertainment.

So, came over here, and started doing the real racing! Long races are definately the best way to spend time.
Agreed with that!;)👍 Now if only some of the series get official GTPlanet sanctions(ala FIA, SCCA, BTCC, &c.) ^^;

Well its up to you on how you want to find a faster way out of the corner. Well if you have to ask, i did it without TCS & ASM. Yeah, sounds fishy but you should give it a try, you can gain time at places where you least expected (as there is no assist, the car can actually accelerate faster out of the corners, but be prepared for some understeer in some of the corners. But try to take the advantages of understeer with the out-in-out technique) Well, look at the results at my last few posts to see which settings i used the best.

Edit: Oh yeah,i forgot to mentioned the "power understeer"* technique. Its a technique where you forced your car to understeer into a corner. Its faster if you couple this technique with a out-in-out technique.

Well don't always rely on one person only. There are some others here which did more races than i did, so take any advice from them as well.
Brings the stock-car racing term 'push' to my mind. Maybe the term "push 'n shove" can be coined here?:dopey:

Well here are my splits.
T1: 13.581
T2: 30.448
Lap Time: 57.288
I should get a wheel sometime.:)
 YOWZA!!! Methinks you and the Clio go wery well together. Dunno if you're aspiring to race one for real.:sly:

Here's my first contribution.

T1 - 13'574

T2 - 30'604

Lap Time - 57'557

Happy racing.

Been doing my practices in 30 lap stints here the past couple of days. Had a 59.452 best lap on Monday, and improved it to a 58.834 last night. Hopefully, I'll improve on it as the week progresses.:)

Best time so far for Car 17:

T1: 14.290
T2: 32.289
FL: 59.965

That was after 10 laps of testing but I'm going to do more as we go! :) --- Randy

Um!!! My splits have got a bit worse but my overall time has improved - a bit!

T1 - 13'601

T2 - 30'614

Lap Time - 57'462

Happy racing,
nige

So another few laps, and this is what I got:

Car #43

T1: 13.919
T2: 31.300
Final: 58.484

It is still with TC set to ON. I personally cannot squeeze more than one, may be two tenths from it, I think. I guess its time now to turn the TC off...

Whittled my best lap time down to 58.748 after about 35 laps today. Guess I still have work to do... :embarrassed:

💡 I was thinking, since I have reserved a post space for the Test Round 1 Results, would it be OK with you if I put a leaderbord on there so that we have a general idea where we stand against each other in this Test Session? I'll put up the Lap times of the drivers along with their sector times that they have put in their posts. Sort of like what's done in F1 racing. :)

Also, I hope you have been saving the Best Laps onto your Memory Cards. They'll come in handy for not only use as a ghost car for you to race against in Practice, but also serves as a refresher as to your Lap and Sector Times are.;)

yes... I think that would be a great idea. Not having to scroll all over the place to see where we stand with respect to others...

You rock!! 👍 👍

I'm a DFP/LFB(Driving Force Pro/Left Foot Braking) type driver myself in case anyone is wondering.:sly:
BTW Neil, what kind of cockpit setup do you have?

[/FONT]

Yup! DFP for me too!

And a setup at my PC desk.
It's a corner desk, so I can have the pedals in the foot-well, the wheel clamped up on the desktop, sit in my leather high-back tilting exec chair, and play using the 27" widescreen HD-TV that works as PC screen also.
Using a component video cable to the PS2, giving 576i resolution for PS2 games and 1360x768 on the PC.
Heres a link to the post I made in the driver's lounge, with a pic of my set-up.
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2672759&postcount=49

Cockpit's take up too much space, are hard to get into/out of, and to be honest.........at nearly 40, I'm a little too old for pretending to be a race driver.:boggled:
There's young(er) guys on here (you know who you are!!!!!) who have racing gloves, boots, suits and helmets, to go with their cockpit. And actually use them!!!:crazy:

I might be really into racing? But I'm not quite that anally retentive! :D:lol::D

Neil

Here's my times from my first two runs of the day:

1st Run
T1: 0'13.958
T2: 0'31.551

Total: 0'58.665

2nd Run
T1: 0'13.950
T2: 0'31.326

Total: 0'58.539

Was really surprised at how much faster I was without aids. It took me about three trys to get used to it and when I did, I was flying.

I was pleased to see that I had set the fastest time out of everyone....

Until I realised it was the one I set with my Racing Mediums, before the rules had been edited.

Using the Racing hards adds a good 0.8 seconds onto your lap time.

I should get a wheel sometime.:)
Neglected to ask you this when you first said it, but what wheel controller are you thinking of getting? A G25? A DFP? A Frex-modded DFP with a racing wheel of your choice?:sly:
Hello boys total:0.56.994
Look out Sammi, you got company!:nervous::D

OK then, off to update the timesheets!

EDIT: Timesheets Updated:sly:👍 So far 9 drivers have taken to the course and have shared with us how they're doing so far. There's still plenty of time to get the testing done before we move on to the next track. Fantomas40, I'm wondering what the T1 and T2 splits are from you for your most recent session. That's why you and the others are seeing the xx.xxx in the Time Splits.

As for me, I'll probably put in another 30 laps or so to try to improve myself.;)

EDIT #2: Timesheets Updated. AGAIN.https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=2745978&postcount=2:dopey:

Well, I had a couple of 30 lap runs tonight and was able to impove my Fastest Lap by full tenth of a second. Now I'm down to a 58.623. BTW, is it me, or does it seem the PAL PS2's are somewhat faster than the NTSC PS2's for some strange reason?:dunce:

My best splits and Lap time so far

T1- 13'538

T2- 30'419

Lap Time - 57'278

Really happy with that.:)

I would love to see the splits of the sub 57 sec lap by Fantomas40

Happy racing

nige

Hey Chris! You missed my splits off the board mate!

T1 13.883
T2 30.929
T3 58.208

I did put them within the post with the lap description.

Oh!
And it's not that the PAL drivers have faster PS2's, it's just that we are faster drivers! :D

Neil

Most WRSers use a G25 or DFP, I in fact found I was faster with a DF, I am not in the WRS because I haven't got myself a Maxdrive. I have a G25 myself, I would be surprised if Nige didn't use a steering wheel.

Can I see your split times so I know where to make my time up.

Yep I use a DFP which I got very recently. Up to then had been using the trusty old pad - Never again though!

I find the advantage is control, trail braking becomes much easier, you can accelerate turn and brake at the same time without much difficulty, personally though I just like the feel of the FFb, its much better in GT than it is in LFS despite LFS's superb realism.

Quick one to the DFP users.

Did you know you can plug the DFP into your PC, and use it in any driving games you have for that format.
All you have to do is download the wingman software off the Logitech website, and off you go!
It even supports 900 degree mode in the games too!

Neil

Well I think this is as fast as i can go.
T1: 13.522
T2: 30.459
Lap Time: 57.197
Actually I do have a wheel, its called a Logic3 Topdrive.
I could buy a good one, but Id rather have some new shoes.

New splits for the board

T1 13.714
T2 30.915
T3 58.013

That I didn't know!:dopey: At least I know now that I won't have to dish out any more money to get a PC wheel if I wanted to play rFactor on it. Though I'll probably need to save my money up to get a newer PC to do so.:embarrassed:

What kind of shoes, Driving or Racing?:sly:

Time to update the Timesheets.:)

Car # 43
T1: 13.755
T2: 30.846

Congrats Optikal, this puts you in 4th place on the timesheet as of now.:sly:👍 Looks like there's hope for 'US' yet! (If you know what I mean... ;))
