Nothing wrong with a little RPing:
From the Kyoto Animation pits
Late entry driver known simply as CCY finally arrived at Infineon Raceway yesterday afternoon just in time to conduct some last-minute testing before the start of the GTPClioCup season. Travel didn't seem to be a problem for the California native, for which the racetrack was just a few hours away, but rather, it was finalizing the paintjob for the car which delayed the practice.
If CCY's performance is anything to go by there's going to be a lot of future delays as he has proven to be passably fast but horribly inconsistent, with numerous grassland adventures at 3a, 8a, and 10 (although the last is actually a beach trip) convincing the team that they should perhaps repaint the car fully green so they don't have to reapply the paintjob every 5 laps.
However, despite the inconsistency, CCY seemed to enjoy the circuit and car combination, his first professional drive in a few months. He ran 32 practice laps in total, separated by a strange shunt into the barriers on lap 19 and a wild incident coming out of 10 on the final lap (which was a stunner, he'll tell you) which disabled his car for the time being.
The best lap recorded was a
1.37.394 on lap 24 with a sector 1 time of 20.810. CCY issued a statement in which he stated that he "really enjoyed the handling and simplicity to drive of this car, with a good but not overkill amount of power, combined with a great track," adding that there was "still probably about a second to be found on a perfectly clean lap; a lot of the trick is to not be intimidated by the turns."
The team has issued plans to hit the track again for more practice if the car can be repaired by nightfall and if they can drag their driver away from his computer where he is busy catching up with the latest shows.
