I've also found an ingenious solution to displaying more 1/43s without having to put in any effort.

I always say amassing a collection of discs and boxes is not an efficient use of space any longer. This is definitely a great way to put the collectible DVDs to use (the ones you really can't let go of).

New arrival, Alpine A110.

Another Ottomobile Alpine, what I lack in originality I make up for in... Predictability. But it looks great, and takes residence in one of my display cases. Ended up putting the Alpine GTA away for awhile, it's not exactly the prettiest car ever.

I thought the scale was off when next to the SLS, as the A110 is a small lightweight sports car. But today I learned that the A110 and SLS are both (in reality) exactly 1252mm tall, which is very interesting. I've been shuffling models around to display things slightly nicer, I was looking to get some more 1/18 cases so I can display more 1/18s but in NZ right now they're really hard to come by (good ones, at least).

I knew owning physical copies of digital media was for a reason! Now I can display more without creating a leaning tower of resin and diecast.

And I've created a Viper sanctuary in the shelf below.

It's surprisingly hard to find good Viper models, GT Spirit made a GTS and RT/10 recently but the lights are all the wrong shape (the sharper curves are all widened, maybe a problem in casting?). There's a GTS from LS Collectibles which looks subpar, and Autoart made an ACR but the ACR isn't really my cup of tea (either make a race car, or a road car. Don't try and make it both). GT Spirit is the best, it's just a shame that they couldn't get the lights right because I would have bought it in a heartbeat. Yeah I know, when it comes to Vipers I'm pretty damn anally retentive.

Do you look for specific liveries or specific airlines, or how do you choose which aircraft model to buy?

Do you look for specific liveries or specific airlines, or how do you choose which aircraft model to buy?
Good question.

There's no real criteria to be honest:lol: When I first started collecting, I looked for aircraft that I'd flown on or had some prior knowledge about. The first model aircraft I ever bought was a British Airways 777-200 because my one of my Scottish cousins flew one. My first model airport was supposedly located on the border between France and Germany, because Herpa made models of mostly European carriers. So I started to collect a wide array of European airlines to fit the theme of the airport. That was in addition to the Asian carriers that came to Melbourne Airport and the domestic carriers like QANTAS and Virgin. I also look for special liveries and exclusive models, such as those from Singapore Airlines, Eva Air and Cathay Pacific. Those are my favourites to collect as they have branded boxes, which instantly makes them more valuable. Recently I've been looking for American aircraft because my collection has neglected that part of the world.

So in short: European carriers, Asian long-haul carriers, Australian carriers, special liveries and North American carriers.

Looking at these models I'm starting to understand why you all are buying/collecting them. Beautiful model cars. Must be expensive though, to collect model cars.

Very beautiful photos. Did you build the background as well?

LOL, sorry for the late response, I didn't build it... it's my dirty rundown backyard, on top of the pool utility machinery cover...
I just took a few shots with my phone during lunch (you can see my lunch plate).

Here is a much better shot of the same car, but this time properly done.
This is NOT my shot. it's from some guy on facebook, Mantas MG

It's at least over $10,000 on the bed, and that's under estimating the cost... The Ferrari must have accounted for at least $1000 alone...

the following photos were taken from the Ottomobile Facebook page

I am awaiting one of them in the coming days:

Just guesstimating the total was probably about 2/3 that, lol. Both BBR Ferraris combined was about $600 USD for example. Also a good chunk of that is models $100 or less (as little as $15 for several). I'd guesstimate the average price is around $120-ish, but I don't really worry about the cost as long as I can afford to pay the bills and still put a little away for savings lol
Also I stay on the lookout for sales and use coupons whenever I can

Exactly. I used to prefer physical copies because you'd get a booklet and all that, but now there's nothing interesting to find there. Physical media is quickly becoming an outdated practice. Only recently have I really learned that digital is the way to go, even for music I only buy physical for albums I can't buy digitally (I can't bring myself to use services like Spotify for the musicians' sake), or albums I really like.

Ok, I bought entirely too many models this year (64 total), though many were ones I had wanted for a long time but missed out on. Also got a good chunk of budget models for eventual modification...

Man, you always buy the cool stuff. I didn't realise you'd bought an LS Collectibles Viper, what did you think of its build quality?

I love the GTE Alpine... Quirky 80/90s French car design... One of my favorite cars growing up...

I love its quirky design too, it's an odd set of proportions which while I'd refrain from calling it pretty, I'd definitely consider it neat and unique.

The IL-96 is a rare breed
It sure is :)

There's still a few left in service with Cubana so I do still have a chance to maybe fly on one at some point, but, as with other planes that I collect I may not get another chance on them so may as well get models of them ^-^

I used to have a lot of 1/64 models and a few bigger models but my parents gave everything away to a school nearby without me knowing it. The reason why is that I used to put the 1/64 models (some of them) in a bench vice because I liked crashed (some) cars more than whole cars. :D

I completely missed this question... Anyway I think it has decent build quality, at least as good as GT Spirit or a good Otto, and going by pics, is more accurate than the GT Spirit Viper. I paid about $120 for it, so a little less than what typical GT Spirits go for. I posted pics of it somewhere a few months ago in this topic I think.

But I did buy a brand new car last year lol

Nah I mean for myself. I find myself tossing back and forth between the idea of saving up for potentially a 2nd fun car like most people, or completely resign myself to having models of what I'd like to have IRL. I've already done one, and while it doesn't give me anything in return, it is a smaller money pit.

That BBR is still on the table at the moment, but I'm slowly resolving to let go of some more of the collection soon.

I might trust your words then, because a decent 1/18 Viper GTS isn't something I want to be passing up.

I'm nearing capacity so I'm having to be extra choosy about what I buy. I have a major soft spot for Ferrari F355s. I would really like a Spider like the one in Goldeneye but I haven't been that lucky. I saw a UT F355 in plain yellow for a reasonable price and kinda had to. Brings the total of these to 4. Pictures? Oh alright then...

Sorry, not a great picture. These 3 models were my only purchases of the last year. From left, all 1/18 scale: Autoart Porsche 911(996) GT3R, GT Spirit 911 (993) Carrera RS and Spark 911R.
