GTPLMS S2 Round 2 Race - Toyota Presents Mt. Fuji Grand Prix *RESULTS POSTED*

Ah, don't pay Neil any mind, he's a sorry old sod , like a little ol lady :) Dang, I am feeling better!

Just did a one stopper (with RM's)in the Snake, tires last just right for 9 laps, fastest lap 1'19.9XX.
I actually feel I'm driving better after a few weeks off, probably my imagination or possibly the meds imagination. I may just be able to submit this week, maybe only one car but heck it's better then nothing.

Hey!
Didn't miss ya that much, Buddy!:sly:

Nah!, wasn't preaching or trying to throw any weight round. Was just shamelessly plugging my thread, that's all! :)

My fastest lap on mediums is 1 thousandth the wrong side of 1'20, but every lap bar 1,9 & 10 is within .2 of my fastest lap in quali.

Gonna run it again this after, then switch to the GT-One.

Neil

I didn't even click on that link Neil, but know that I know it's yours I'll go have a look.

It must have been a good run I did, coz I can't repeat it!

So the Snake run's in the bag.

Going out in the GT-One in the morning, that is IF, and it's a BIG if, my knee's are up to it.
Could hardly walk this afternoon, and only major pain-killers and a few cans helped tonight. Don't know what I did to bring it on, but I am in real trouble at the moment. Wearing Neoprean+steel knee supports, taking strong painkillers, and herbal medication, and nothing is touching it. I just wish the doctor's would do something, but they say they can't till I'm at least 45!(that's when they will put me on the waiting list)
What's the bloody use in that? I need my knee's NOW! Not when I'm older, NOW!

Sorry guys, but I'm majorly P;SSED OFF, in a lot of pain, and P;SSED off!

No matter what I say, they tell me I'm too young to have my knee's sorted out!
WTF?

Neil

just got through with the R8. I'm amazed that with the hard driving I was doing, I pulled off a One-stop race. hopefully I'll do the same with the TT-R

Sorry I've been gone a few days fellas (and lady), but RL intervenes at the most inopportune times. Well, i have managed to get a few races in, and a little something for you all to shoot at. So without further adieu...

Team ICS Race Report: Mt. Fuji Grand Prix

GT3 has the Southern Comfort Honda S2000 feeling pretty good. still a slight bias toward front-wear, but a couple trips around the track show that she's got what it takes in the corners. Turn 3 gives no problems, even with worn fronts it's full throttle all the way to the hairpin. 1 stop race RM/RM with no difficulties whatsoever.

GT2 and the M3 aren't looking for anything this week. The frontstretch just kills you at top end. There's just not enough corners to make up for it here, so it's a back-of-the-pack finish i'm looking at. Tire wear is OK, being able to make it 9 laps on RM/RM, but just barely, and that pit wall has a little blue paint on it from my entries a couple times.

GT1 and the Viper love this track, but the track does not like the Viper. Tire wear is a factor for me, and that 9th lap is pretty hairy around Turn 3 and coming out of Dunlop onto the frontstretch. But with GREAT top-speed and brakes equal to the task, even the CLK-GTR I race against isn't a match. 1-stopper here too with RM/RM.

PRO has a definate possibility to be a no-stop race, but you'd have to be a better man than I. I've taken the low rode, with a 1-stop on RM/RM and BURNED THE TIRES OFF OF IT. (again, sorry Neil). Problem is, being on average 50hp down on one of the fastest tracks that GTPLMS races on, I have to take what I can get to stay ahead of Earth, Del, RACECAR, and those Stanner Stair Lift guys.

Overall it looks like a 1-stop RM/RM is the way to go. Tried a 2-stop RS/RS, but even at -2s / lap, the 3 slow-laps instead of the 2 makes it a wash anyway.

Not touched this today, been too sore to race.

Hopefully I will get to do the GT-One race tomoz, but don't be surprised if I only submit the Viper race.

Neil

Aaaargghh!!! Darn, darn , darn, darn, blasted @#*%$$@ AI!! :ouch: :ouch: :grumpy:

I'm in my Pesca, executing the race of a lifetime. Really. Everything, the cornering, breaking points, tire wear and lap times, is going incredibly perfect and fast. Then, on the 9th lap - my scheduled pit lap, I catch a glimpse of what appears to be the Bentley as I enter the hairpin on turn 4. Catching up to my prey - yes, it is the Bentley - I slide into Dunlop chicane and power out. I decide to pass No.8 on the inside and hug turn 9 as tight as my orange tires will allow. Sliding outwards towards the center lanes I think, "should I let him pass?" "I have to slow down anyway and pit." NO! NEVER!! Full speed ahead! I lose him in my mirror. Good. Looking for the red pit arrows ..... got 'em ...brake evenly ... good ... ready for the quick sweep right ,.......BAMMM!!! SCREEECHH.... CRASH.... blasted Bentley came onto me full speed and sent me flying!! ...penalty .......end of Homeric effort .......AAARGGGHHHHH!!!!

I think I'm heading over to the "Long Road to No-Where" lounge and have a beer. Anyone car to join? :)

done with GT2(just in time for Graduation Tomarrow!:) ). once again I managed to pull off a one-stop race. the car was good, even while the tires were red. I can't wait for the results.

Gonna watch the MotoGP and British Superbikes for the morning and early afternoon, then numb my knee with the TENS machine we have, and give the GT-One a bash.

It might be a case of a single finished race, but I'll give it a go.
Can't let Chris and Charger have it all thier own way, can I?

@Andy
You gonna give the fast boy a go?

Neil

GT2 and the M3 aren't looking for anything this week. The frontstretch just kills you at top end.

No kidding! Testing gearing earlier this week, I found it had little effect on frontstretch speeds, since aero effects are so strong here (stupid kidney grille :banghead: ). I could set the gear from 290-320 and the top speed was still always about 175, and my speed at the start/finish line was always 165/6. But at least I didn't have to compromise my gear for the rest of the track, since it didn't affect topend!

that's what I found too, top speed is 175, no matter what.

As for PRO, i've knocked 40 sec off my time this morning!!! 1-stopper RM/RM 11 laps, RS/RM 7 laps. had to baby the fronts that last lap, but MORE than made up for it with RS fronts. I'm very happy with my times, and i'm done.

GT3: Just completed my race with the Altezza. Started with RM/RM, pitted in lap 11 (that pit entry is really scary) and changed to RM/RS. Time lost entering, pitting and exiting was around 30secs. Won't be aiming too high in the classification table though.

EDIT: times on their way ;)

Times sent for GT2. :)

I have to give Neil 👍 👍 👍 for the comment he made to me in the Suzuka race thread, "You must be going in hellish fast..." which helped me realize how much I was overdriving in places. Even though I knew better, I obviously needed a smack upside the head to slow down and go faster! Thanks, mate!

And I hope your knees are doin' better. I've used a TENS before too, they're weird, but they help!

Have both races done but I may run them each again if time permits. I will have a penalty won't I for not doing the quali? No problem, I'm just glad to be out of the hospital (I'm really gonna miss the fantastic food) and back to my dog, wife and house...in that order:), no, actually they're all tied for first place or last place depending on how ya look at it.

I really like the flow on this course, and although true with all the tracks, exit speed out of turns is especially important here. After every sharp turn there's a nice full throttle stretch that will make or brake ya!

Running in the low to mid 1'20's in the Viper and low to mid 1'12's in the Toyota GT1, for what it's worth.

Times Submitted, such as they are!! Good Luck Ya'll !!!

What course is up next, I wanna get a jump on quali and can't find the schedule.

Well, I sent in my times, but "real life" made for a very difficult week at the track. Would like to have tried to best myself in both classes; PRO & GT1, but basically submitted my first available clean laps. Enjoyed Fuji very much. One-stoppers in both classes. Thanks for all the advise regarding pitting 👍 Next stop New York!

ERacer

It was a hard race, but this weekend I've found out some things about Fuji: I've won here at one of the weeks at WRS! :) So I tell myself: "Wake up right now, and please stop all this overbreaking! Do you best!" ;)
So I've rerun all 3 races today and all results were improved...
I think I've found my style here, so I hope result are good enough!

As for the strategy:
9laps/9laps ; RM/RM in PRO, GT1, GT2...

Good luck to everybody!

Times sent in just before deadline!

Had a real problem braking whilst doing the GT-One race, coz of the TENS machine my left foot kept twitching, and it made my foot tingle too. So I had to concentrate really hard to make sure I didn't either press the peddle by mistake or not press it when I needed to. (If that makes any sense at all?)

Hopefully my times will stand up on thier own, cos I can't very well! :nervous:

RM/RM 2x9 laps in the Viper, RM/RH 2x9 laps in the GT-One.
That GT-One really chews up the rears, and I am almost ashamed to say that I had to use TCS for the first time in over a year. Otherwise it didn't even get to the 9th lap without very red tyres on the back end.

Neil

Alright a city course, my speciality, not to mention I drove Taxi in NYC right out of High School, and no they weren't horse drawn Neil!!!

Mastadons or Hippearions more like it! :sly:

Oh yeah! Happy belated birthday too mate!

Neil

Damned happy and surprised with the results in GT2 and GT3 at Fuji .. can't remember what setting i used for A1 in GT3 .. 8 ,9 OR 10 { tried all 3 } .. but whatever : my submitted total time was 15+ seconds better than the others because the slip-streamimg .. even 'locked-onto' a FTO { hope it was anyway } for four laps .. and every lap where'd i'd slip-stream for more than half the lap .. the Cusco's time was 2+ seconds faster than it would have been otherwise .. it worked for me at Fuji .. not so sure it'll work again in NY , but i'll be trying every option 👍

WOW!
I'm very happy with the results, especially with my victory in PRO! This damned 0.019 sec! It's a great luck to win here because I've tried Audi... Incredible, but it is almost a whole second faster per lap! :scared: I can't explain how such common cars with really equal settings created by Chris can bring such a difference!? Maybe it's all about circuit... I call this "Fuji factor" :)
Anyway, I'm very happy with the results! Congratulations to everybody, especially for the podium racers! See you at the New Your, guys and girl!

man, I don't get it. its a near perfect race, one-stopper and every thing, and somehow I finish horribly. what did you guys do That maybe I could have done?(guys with the R8s).

The king has been defeated! Congratulations to C-H-A-R-G-E-R on 3 victories, and to Del with a dominating performance in GT3.

@RACECAR. it's all about being smooth. float into the corners, especially Last and Turn 3 approaching the Hairpin. If you lose speed here, it will KILL you. Don't overdrive the corners too...a lot of people say "overdrive", but don't know what that means. braking too late, and consequently not being able to get a good apex and exit, flying into a corner, tapping the brakes to "set the nose", and flying out makes you lose more speed than does letting off the gas and "float"ing the car into said corner. There are some other things, but that's it, it's all about being smooth.

c

LOL! ^^^

Don't fret, the mojo's still there, just masked by pain and painkillers.

Plus, to be brutally honest (and unfortunately, little unfair to Andy) , I wanted a challenge in PRO. And guess what? The GT-One's that challenge!

It's power and handling is great, but it's tyre wear is abyssmal!

BTW
Congrat's to the winners and podiums as usual, BUT, bring on the 6 million dollar man and his sidekick T.K.
