Agreed.

With my ATT connection, I can get 400-600 kpbs.

So, if they had 500 people connected (which isnt unreasonable), they too would have to have the gigabit connection, right? I feel I am missing something.

Yeah you're absolutely right. They don't expect that 500 people would be using that much bandwidth at the same time. You'll notice that there is a major slowdown at "heavy hours" as well. Hang on, I'll get you a link to a UUNet network map. It's pretty cool for us geeks (:

hi guys , thought i'd mention that a company in the uk called ntl is doing cable with a connection of 512kb/sec and have guaranteed sometime in 2002 they will be boosting it to over 900kb/sec ;)

Hey cool. Thanks.

This is the UUNet page with their network map:

http://www1.worldcom.com/global/about/network/maps/?SetLang=en

You can click on North America, Europe, or Asia to get a more detailed map. I just realized that they have OC192 connections now. 10 GIGABIT! Man, that's a lot of data ... but not all of that is Internet. Some of it is dedicated customer, and some is phone. Keep in mind this is "MCI WorldCom" ... evil phone companies ...

Europe is a whole different ball game, they've got their stuff together. Thanks for the input! Somewhere in the northern part of Europe, there is an ISP that is prepairing to run fibre to houses this year (I believe). There are a few projects in the US doing the same thing:

I love network maps, I think they're pretty interesting (especially when you know you've got your own data going through some of them). One of my favorite sites for them is "An Atlas of Cyperspace"; you might like it. :)

You left your FTP wide open!?! This is why the Feds don't like people having that much bandwidth. They don't know how to manage any computer they put on it. You need to drop in a firewall and setup some seriously strict security on your computers.

Very cool stuff. Check this out:

A friend of mine has the 1999 map. The white version lists all the networks and their IP address blocks. Very cool stuff.

Got any full length movies? That would put you away for months. There's this big fat man named Tiny ... he doesn't like it when little computer pirates come to live in his cell with him.

Man I dropped that stuff years ago. You should too, it's bad news.

The only software I have are patches and updates to stuff I've purchased, and the only mp3s I have are ones I've made from my own CDs.

MistaX -

I just looked at your directory. You might wanna block ANY OLD DAMN PEOPLE FROM LOOKING AT IT.

Anyone who knows ANYTHING about computers can see that you have stolen HUNDREDS of songs, movies (a bunch of porn), and programs!

Think, dude!

Why? You don't want people to know you look at PORN? You should have thought about that before you hung your ass out on the Internet for everyone to look at.

To quote a famous comedian (who's name escapes me ...), "IT'S EVERYWHERE, IT'S EVERYWHERE!" Now ... if I could only get my own island ...

Thats pretty cool, i wanna get me one of those
Well, not domain names, but since UUNet (alter.net) is pretty much the largest data provider, it kind of looks like that.

"Ban" ... what exactly do you mean by "ban"? It is illegal to copy and distribute copywritten materials. Has this existing law somehow been forgotten?

Screw-it, you're like 12 and you need to grow up.

I'm going to play poker with my friends.
