The "there to stop you" makes me think of police as well. The "other game" is likely to be..

But which of them?

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C5) '00, Z06 (C5) '04 or Z06 (C6) '06?

Sorry kids :(

Still no, but Mortimer has the right idea.

Hmm, so far so good I guess..

Shouldn't happen to be one of the four non-concept non-race car Mazda RX-8? (I'm guessing since there's only four of them there's no need to make a big deal out of it :) )

- BMW M3 GTR Race Car '01 (the M3 GTR in the NFS MW intro always makes me think of this race car)
- Mazda RX-8 Type S '07
- Lamborghini Diablo GT '00
- Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

No guys. Silver was hilariously close, please, put this terrible riddle out of it's misery.

The way you're wording that you must be talking about the NFS with the lamest name I can think of. Seriously, it doesn't even sound close to meh.

Well, yeah, shares part of it's name with a PSP game.

"This thing went on to become the car on the cops side"

@sparkytooth McLaren F1 GTR?
Close enough.

The F1 LM (The F1 GTR of the mid 90s is the racecar version of it) is on the cops side in NFS Rivals, alongside the LFA, the Carrera GT, the Henessey, the Veyron SS, the cops apparently have a much better budget than the Racers, and generally, cooler cars.

Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Racecar
Mazda 787B
Mazda Furai Concept

Mind that I don't play NFS, only GT.

^Someone already guessed the correct answer.

I'll give a riddle a go since it's been over 4 hours:

"A Touring beast that keeps coming back since 1999."

*facedesk* I should know this. It's on the tip of my tongue. >_<

Mazda MX5/Eunos/Roadster variation
Nissan Skyline/GTR variation

The big question is, there's touring car racing and there's touring car as in estate/wagon etc.

Alfa Romeo 156? (It has a super-long name but there's only one of them)

BMW 320i Touring Car? Was pretty fast back in the early '00s and it's later generations share (nearly) the same name.

Opel Astra Touring Car
Opel Calibra TC
Mitsubishi FTO Super TC
Toyota Altezza TC
