Guide for what effect each tune option does

Hey all,

I'm relatively new to GT, and I'm trying to figure out what tunes to make to my cars to solve certain problems.
Some examples are:
At top speed, my car seems to lose traction, which upgrades should I look into offset this?

Does adding a wing have any performance impact, or are they just for looks?

What upgrades are best for increasing top speed, or redline? (After adding about 65HP to my car, the top speed increased by 2MPH).

Really, the core of these questions is that I don't know exactly what effects each tuning option does, so I don't know which ones to purchase/modify.

Can anyone point me at a guide or FAQ that gives a more basic explanation of this sort of thing? I don't really need a guide on how to perfectly tune my variable gear transmission, more to tell me when I might want one.

Thanks!

There are two great guides pinned at the top of this tuning forum. The Tuning Guide has much of what you are asking about. The Tuner's Garage Database has links to all of us with garage tunes posted. Many of the garages have discussion threads on what they feel works best in the game. I would suggest trying some of the garage tunes and seeing if you can improve them, match them to your driving style, by using the knowledge you gain from reading the Tuning Guide.

And if you want to keep track of your tunes, try the new Tuning Sheet by Carmaster's Workshop! 💡💡

I did look at that tuning guide post, but the guides seemed specific to GT4. For example, the guide's topic on wings goes in-depth on how you can adjust the angle of the wing, but I don't see any option for that sort of thing in GT5, so I'm not sure how far to trust the GT4 guide in GT5 in general.
Are those guides still pretty accurate for GT5?

Yeah some stuff is different from GT4 (especially LSD behavior), but Scaff's GT4 guide is still a good starting point.

As for the wing, I think all the options for a given part give the same amount of downforce. Apparently once fitted you can go into the downforce tuning and compare the value against what it was before you installed the wing, even if it's not adjustable.
