I'm going to Silverstone in a couple of weeks as i'm among other 13 finalist of the Russian GT Academy National's Finals.Since I basically have no real life racing experience whatsoever i was wondering how should I prepare for the Silverstone?What should i concentrate more on ? karting? Many thanks guys.

Fitness, and alot of it :). If you've never had real racing experience (Which is more what the competition is about) I wouldn't worry, the whole point is to transfer your virtual skills to reality, they will look at the rate of improvement and intake of instructions for sure! But Fitness is something you will definitely need, and something which will play a role!

Just a question when are the Russian Finals at Silverstone :)?

It's no worries, if you do have a karting track near you I suppose it can't harm your chances in having a go. That date helps alot it means the Finals will go;

Germany, Russia, Europe, US

Everything Tidgney said.

The tests over the years have been:

Gran Turismo - This speaks for itself. You've played enough of it by now to be good at it :lol:

Media - Competitors face questions from members of the press. They're assessed by the press themselves on their own criteria, but answers that are clear and loud enough to be heard by all are good! Eye contact with the questioner is good, long answers that don't ramble are good and intelligent answers are good (on Wednesday we had a preset list of question to choose two from, one being "Who is your favourite racing driver and why?"; One guy answered John Surtees, qualifying that with three more sentences. You could hear the eyebrows being raised - great answer). If you sound like an F1 driver being interviewed (not Kimi), you're doing well.

Driving - This has been karting, Nissan 370Z hotlaps under instruction (scored on ability to take instruction too), Nissan 370Z and Nissan GT-R Autocross under instruction and single seater laps. Get a track day in with something RWD and get some karting done.

Fitness - You'll be tested on all sorts of things. I've seen push-ups, grip tests, standing leaps and the all-important bleep test. Get working on your stamina particularly for this. There's a program called "Hundred Pushups" that'll get you trained to do press-ups (and another called two hundred situps) - though it requires more time than you ultimately have it's a good start. Do anything you can to get your fitness up - walk the dog more, cycle everywhere, you name it.

Don't underplay the role of diet - one of the big changes a GT Academy winner sees is a dietary coach and a rigid plan of intake. You'll be wanting to cut down on fat and increase protein and carbohydrate intake to go with your fitness training over the next three weeks - to keep your weight healthy and build muscle mass and stamina. Make sure your vitamin intake is appropriate and if you have any dodgy joints, I'll recommend you get fish oil supplements too!

I can't say for sure whether there's any more gaming or not. Doesn't do any harm to keep your eye in though :D

I'm pretty sure there will not be any more gaming assessment at Silverstone, Kazunori has given you all he can, the rest is up to you ;)

All the best
