Wonder if anyone can help me. i shutdown my computer and it froze when it got to the shutting down screen. When i restarted it it wouldnt detect Primary slave and the hard drive makes a beeping noise. Im using windows XP and have a 40gb maxtor hard drive. checked the maxtor website but doesnt give any help. It detects the hard drive but not the primary slave?

the beep is about 6-7 single beeps then they stop.

any suggestions or tips would be of great help!

thanks i'll take a look but i phoned where i bought it from and all the parts have year warranty, so that makes things easier but i need the data from my hard drive, so i hope its not *****d. i know you can ghost data from hard drives but if its mechanically screwed i'm gonna have to pay alot to get that data retrieved.

Takin it down to my local computer shop now.

Thanks

just got my comp back from the shop and it was the hard drive that was beeping. apparently the cylinder head was broke and hes replaced it with a 40gb seagate hd. now its the long task of reinstalling software, and getting all my chops back from uploadit.org
