So I recently got a new Laptop (a HP Touchsmart 15) and decided since my Acer is abit dated, to install all my stuff on the HP. I installed Win TV as well as all the drivers for the Hauppauge HD-PVR. The Windows 8 on my HP doesn't come with Windows Media Center (the program I used to set up the HD-PVR on the Acer) but surprisingly, I got the video to show up without it. However, I have encountered two issues:

1. It has no sound. It has video (same good quality) but sound is not at all present.
2. The sound on my TV cuts out the moment I plug in the USB cord into the Laptop (something it didn't do on the ACER). I have to unplug it and switch the HD-PVR off then on just to get the sound back on my TV

I have a HVR-2200 and i watch TV with the WinTV program
Would help if you tell us which device you have.

But I would suggest downloading the latest driver CD.
Then run the hwclear.exe to remove all traces of hauppauge drivers, winTV and anything else from them.
Then run the installer as admin, it should install drivers first then Win TV application.

Make sure you are NOT using 3rd party codecs as these can cause issues.

Its the same HD-PVR I used before (49XXX if that helps). I tried to download the latest update when it popped up as I booted up Win TV but when I click for more information, all I get is the same page with no link to download it.

Edit:

I still have the CD that came with it if that helps (If I recall, I need it for future updates).

Edit 2: Since I don't have Windows Media Center on my HP, what do I instead use to set up the TV signal from my Satellite box?

Still, I'd like to take all the help I can get as I'm not all that optimistic that I'll get help there.

That is the main support forum you wont get insta help but they are the experts
You best mention where you live as well, as not all places use DVB-T and some places use their own audio encoders in their TV transmission.

Ah the other issues with digital TV people weren't informed of.

First post has been edited, including the video I recorded.

Kinda wish I could've edited my post on their, but it looks like I can't.

Is your HD PVR not compatible with Hauppauge Capture?

Not sure, I actually never heard of it. The program that came with mine was Win TV so I've been using it for all my recordings.

He is watching TV, not capturing video from an external source.
He needs to use WINTV
On a side note, try installing K-Lite Codec pack, that basic one should do fine.

The video he posted is captured PS3 gameplay...

Ok so I just thought of something:

On the Acer, I installed WinTV and one thing I remember doing (that I haven't done so far on the HP) is set up the HD-PVR as a receiver via Windows Media Center. Now unfortunately, Windows 8 on my HP does not come with Windows Media Center AND I sure as hell am not coming off $99.99 for a "Pro pack" just so I can get one program. So does anyone have any suggestion on a programs that's at least similar in that it'll allow you to setup your Hauppauge as a receiver? I think this might help.

Update:

Still no answer from Hauppauge but I think I may have found what the real issue is. Its not the software but instead, its looks like a no brainer:

Kinda explains why the sound cuts off when I plug it in the laptop. Going to buy another cord or at least search around and see if there is an old one I can use, maybe this'll fix it.

Edit: Nope, wasn't it. Frankly, I'm just considering giving up on recording gameplay videos period. I lose no matter what I do or have to do. I'll either have to spend a crapload of ridiculous money for a "Pro pack" just for one program (Media center), or I'll have to spend a lot for new recording equipment. There is no way I come out of this ahead.

Try running a Virtual Machine with Windows 7.

It could be windows 8 restricting things because it is not the "pro" version.

I assume you have latest drivers installed?

(Control Panel - Sound) Have you set playback device as your speakers on your onboard sound as default sound device and also default recording device as your HD PVR?

Where would I find the part with the default recording device? I'm not seeing that.

Edit: Wait I see it, but I don't see the HD-PVR as one of the choices.

What are the choices? I assume you have it plugged in when looking at the choices? Does it show up on Playback devices when plugged in?

Only "Speaker/HP" and "Digital Display Audio" show up.

The Speaker/HP as default should ensure you don't lose sound output from speakers. Do you have Arcsoft Total Media Extreme application for HD PVR installed from CD? It seems that is important to set default input and you can also use it for recording.

Mine came with Win TV, I don't recall it coming with that.

Also, it appears that there is sound but not a lot of it. I recorded while playing one of the videos I made last year on the PS3 and the sound is there, but barely:

Sounds exactly like that coming out my TV as well.

Distortion(clipping) and bits missing.

Sounds like a codec issue.

You try installing K-Lite Full codec pack and then using the Advanced Options and 3rd Party Decoders, you could also check if Prefer AC3 audio is checked or unchecked and try with the opposite and try again.
You can also try using some other decoders and try your luck

It should have it somewhere on disc. Does it show Hauppauge HD PVR Capture Device in device manager under Sound when you have device plugged in. If so update it to latest driver, might help: Link (Might also have something with Yellow exclamation and possibly under Other Devices which might need updating) Following video might help: Link

You want to get to situation where you can select sound source as bottom image on this guide: Link

Just downloaded, tried it and I got this:

"The K-Lite Codec Pack is not installed on your computer. This installer can only be used on an existing install of the codec pack"

Tried that, it uninstalled and installed the newer just as you said.

However, it hasn't fixed the problem and now, I don't get picture either. I fear I may somehow have yet another burnt out component terminal or something, hell I don't what it is. Its just frustraiting that I'm doing everything as recommended and none of it is fixing the problem.

Edit: I'm seriously just considering giving on this and going to another device. The one thing I haven't tried yet is spending reculous amounts of money just so Windows can have Windows Media Center. On one hand, I hate that idea as well as feel it will be all for nothing yet at the same time, nothing else I've tryed worked and I have no other options (apart from possibly spending a crap load of money to upgrade to a new Hauppage HD-PVR). I'm just really at this point at the end of my patience with this.

You could try linux, but their is no WINTV software on linux.

So you have gone to the advanced section and set the audio codecs to something else.
