Guess I'm the only one who really loves the current colour combined with the unpainted roof as well.
I don't think the OE color is aggressive enough for the car. I do like the color though, just not for this build. #1 on the list right now is Rosso Barchetta.

Worked on my Laguna Blue car this weekend.

Picked up a Nopro window washer bottle. It fits behind the cowl where you cant see it, cleaning up the bay. The bottle itself is actually from a Suzuki Cappuccino.

Due to the rod knock I've started to hear in the motor, its time to start building up a new block. Parts list below.

94-97 NA8 block
99 NB1 9.5:1 pistons/rods
99 NB1 cylinder head, decked .060 (needs to be ported, valvejob)
04-05 NB2 Mazdaspeed Miata intake cam (higher lift/duration)
Megasquirt for engine management
EUDM squaretop intake manifold (if I can find one)
4-2-1 header for 99 head
Adjustable cam gears
~94 Protege valve cover

I wish I was just able to do that.

One day I really need to start looking properly at learn mechanical skills so that one day I can to stuff like that.

I love building engines, but this one will be a good challenge for me. So far I've only build small block Chevrolet engines, but with good success.

Picking up my new cam today hopefully. It's out of an 05 Mazdaspeed Miata.

OEM 97 Miata cam specs:
.338 lift
190* Duration @.050

MSM cam:
.348lift
251* Duration @0.50.

Should give an extra 6-10hp alone, but will help considerably with the head milling and porting along with exhaust and intake. You can run this cam with the stock ECU, but why bother with all the changes I'm making. Going to run Megasquirt.

Ow come on. I know most of the times he's kinda out of his mind but this time he might be into something (:
I'm keeping with the simplicity of the Mazda engine being only four cylinders and naturally aspirated. I've had a Corvette once, I've had my V8 fill for now.

Doesn't surprise me with everything you keep adding
Seriously. The roof and flares add weight, as well as chassis bracing. The smaller 13" wheels will help, they are 4 lbs lighter per corner than the old Watanabe wheels.

Every little bit helps
I've changed out the glass triangle windows to lexan, going to remove power steering and swap to a manual rack. Once I have a solid daily driver I'll remove the AC as well. Lighter bucket seats will be sourced as well. Probably wont strip the interior, but who knows.
