help a noob with littler steering wheel experience

why not wait untill october and get the g25? any desk that isnt too thick will work. make sure its sturdy :P

g25 is 300 bucks but its well worth it imo.

One thing about the DFP is its vibrations are very strong. I personally have mine clamped to my computer desk and it often vibrates so much that stuff falls off my monitor.

Clamp it to the most secure thing you have. A computer desk works nicely. Even if you have to go with a smaller television as I did the proximity of the small tv to your eyes is just as nice or better than a large tv at a longer distance.

if your mounting it on something permamently then this is what i did to make it rock solid. I took 2 long wood screws w/washers and drilled through the top of the wheel assembly near the rear and screwd the back right to my mount. its just hollow so it wont do any damage. Between the clamps and the screws it dosent budge.

Just make sure you don't miss the hollow section and hit circuitry. I don't know of a warranty in existance that covers 'act-of-stupidity'.

What are you using a the base to which you want to mount the DFP too?
If it's something that is going to be stand-alone and unmovable, let me know and I'll send you some plans on how to secure it quite well via email.

Just hit me up via email at simracedriver@comcast.net

Personally, I built my own stand for it. I don’t have the space for a cockpit or anything, but a ~26” x ~16” piece of 3/4” MDF, with four 30” 2x3’s as legs. It’s cheap little table, and quite sturdy. I actually made it so that the legs are removable, but that's only because when I'm not driving, it needs to be tucked away.

The one thing I need to do yet is put a small brace to prevent it from tipping towards me. Sometimes during intense driving, I tend to pull the wheel towards me a bit and the back legs lift off the ground. Not much, and not enough to cause problems, but just enough that I’d like to fix it. :)

Thanks for the info escher!

Since you need to have the stand 'tucked away' when not in use, then what I was going to propose (Permanetly afixing the DFP to your stand) is not going to be an option I'm sorry to say.

Can't think of anything off the top of my head that would help you resolve the issue w/the legs coming up but if I can think of anything, I'll post back in this thread.

Cheers!
