HELP! Accidentally deleted save. Need assistance with recovery.

While attempting to back up my GT5 gamedata i deleted my gamesave... :banghead:

I managed to "Recover" the files from my drive but not the folder they were in... I started a new game so i can get the folder ID, and replaced the files inside but now when i load the game i get 2 pop ups:

"The data loaded was invalid. The content of this save data will be ignored." & "Failed to load data. Please delete this save data"

If anybody knows anything about gamesaves, and may be able to share insight on how i may get this issue resolved please help. If we can get the save working again you may choose ANY car from my extensive garage.

I have poured well over 100 hours into this game, and had over 200 cars. I cannot bring myself to start a new game after all the work i put into this. Why couldn't PD just leave the goddamn saves locked!? FML


Update: when i select the recovered/recompiled save file it shows 430 days of playing time, that i have 1.3 million dollars and that i was driving an FGT... but it refuses to load the save. All of this info is synonymous with where i was before the accident...

Hey man, that REALLY sucks. I can't help you with your gamesave, but if you end up having to start over, I'll be glad to send you some cars to get started, including my old FGT (the original blue one :yuck:). I'm mostly a lurker on here, but I've seen you around on this forum, and I usually agree with your viewpoints. I'd be glad to help you out, just send me a PM if you need to start over.
 
oh man that sucks, dont u have at least one backup before you accidently deleted the oe on your ps3?

My guess would be to also try restore your ps3 system to a former backup state if you have it, also did u try to go in game, make a new save, go back out and replace the new save with the old one?


sorry man out of ideas, but at least olivia munn is still hot...
 
@True.Samiam - Thanks, i appreciate the offer. I think i may start a new game on a new profile in the meantime. Hopefully at some point the data i recovered can be made to load again...

@xSnakex - This was my first time attempting to back up a game save, ever. I did try the method you describe, replacing the files with the ones that i recovered but the game simply wont load them.
 
The folder name is always "BCUS98114-GAME" for GT5.
Do you have all 5 files in the folder?
gt5.0 - Marker file for PS3 recognition
param.sfo - header information for the XMB
param.pfd - actual game data
icon.png - icon image
pic1.png - background image

Since you are seeing the summary information, it sounds like you got the right param.sfo file.
Also, make sure, all 5 files should have the same date and time.
Let us know if all this information matches what you have.
 
@BKViper - Yes i have those 5 files. When i recovered them the first letter of each file was replaced with an underscore (_).

I tried loading them as they were, but got file corrupted. i renamed them, and the file shows up, it shows all my info, but is says the data is invalid if i attempt to start a game.
 
Just to verify...
You went to the Save Data on the XMB and deleted any existing GT 5 saves.
Then, you had all 5 files, inside a directory named BCUS98114-GAME, on a USB stick.
You put the USB in the PS3, went back to the Save Data section of the XMB, went to the USB device, selected the GT5 save, hit triangle, and choose copy.

If you did all that, where did the error occur, or did you do all that successfully and then got the error when you tried to start the game?
 
You can try renaming and adding/deleting certain things like images and files but the ps3 transcodes them as does the psp if you take files off and do a system update the files will never work again.

I backed it up to my PSP this morning. Then i played all day and wanted to back up my new progress so i deleted the first save from the PSP, and attempted to back up again. this is when i deleted the save from my PS3. In retrospect this was a HUGE mistake.

I then used a data recovery program on my PSP's hard drive to recover these 5 files. they were not in a folder and they were renamed like i stated earlier. I can start the game to the point of the "OK" prompt, where it informs you that the game saves data automatically, etc. Once i accept this and hit OK the 2 prompts pop up as i described in the original post, and it starts a new game.



@bystronicman - I dont see any profanity in my post anywhere, otherwise it would have been edited out. I just lost a month of progress, so please go find some other post to troll. I am in no mood to deal with forum vigalantes who think they are moderators.

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the PSP for how it backs up files.
Best of luck. If nothing else, post a request for sympathy cars.
I, and I'm sure plenty others, will gift you enough cars that you can get back to where you were quickly.

I backed up another save, and it backed it up as it would if it were a USB flash drive. The files were all properly foldered and named. I believe the problem lies in the recovery of the deleted files...

exact same thing happened to me!!! 25 minutes ago i had 140,000 dollars ferraris lambos, tons of my favorite cars! and i was planning to get a driving force gt wheel in 3-4 days! but now i have lost everything i was also a-spec level 23 and b-spec level 5 ! i really dont want to start over with a stock 86 :( could anyone pleas send me some cars so i can get back to where i was soon. some of the cars i remember that i had were:

ferrari california '08
ferrari f430 (and the spi one)
mercedes amg ( the one next to the 19 inch wheel option )
corvette race car
fully tuned gtr specv '09
lambo aventador
lambo mercelago (i dont know how to spell it,sorry)
drift tuned s2000 '06 ( premium )
dodge charger r/t '70
