Help!!!!! pc too slow!!!!!

I didn't realize that you don't have a 3D accelerator. That will be a HUGE help. It relieves your CPU of the considerable task of processing 3D graphics...I think you'll be as amazed as I was when I first upgraded my graphics card. :)

Problem is he's getting 2 video cards that won't play anything past Quake 2, and probably not even that on a 166.

(BTW, you might be able to go up to 200 or 233, but I doubt your motherboard will take any higher processors, and good luck getting equipment that old.)

Save your money, and spring for a new PC, it's worth the investment. :)

That's true, he's still limited by the total system power. My old Voodoo 2 will go up to Half-Life though. :) I found that more RAM/CPU cycles immensely helpful in running the game smoothly.

Personally I would not install anymore games on your PC utill it's built to handle it... If you want to use your existing computer, I would upgrade your Graphics Card first. Let's assume that your computer has a AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot, this new card could also be compatible in a new computer as well. Keep in mind that a screamin' Graphics card will run anywhere from $200-400.... Bang for the buck, the ATI Radeon 8500 seems to be a wise choice which can be found for under $200.00......

Next I would Look at upgrading your ram.... As it was stated earlier, 128 mb minimum considering the cost of it these days...

Next Stay away from tweaking your PC unless your just itchin' to learn, in which case, plan to do a lot of reading and such...

Next, Save your pennies for a new Motherboard, Processor, Ram, HD, Sound Card, Power Supply and you'll be set.

 and good luck!

One thing...if he's running a P1 166, I'm sure he doesn't have an AGP slot...

I've seen 486/66 with AGP's... :D

Accelerated Graphics Port. A bus solely for your graphics processing needs, so that your PCI bus is less taxed. :)

Good answer, good answer....

Notice in this picture. The brown slot is smaller than the three white slots in front of it. This brown slot is a AGP slot for a campatible AGP Graphics card. The white slots are PCI slots mostly used for other cards such as sound cards, modems, Network Interface Cards, and many many other cards as well...
