Help - virus problem - FIXED

So I got a notification today for a Trojan that has been installed on my system and I've noticed words within the GTP forums turning into ad links. No idea where it came from as I only visit a handful of sites daily. Here is what the notification says:

This program is dangerous and downloads other programs.

Remove this software immediately.

Ran Spy Bot a few times, also used the "Windows Defender" to try and delete it a few times and after every computer restart it comes back. Any ideas on how to get rid of it for good?

Formatting the HDD will probably do the trick...
Just be sure it doesn't hide in any other HDD's you might have.


If you don't want to go that far, try downloading the free 30 day trial from Kaspersky.
I used that on my old laptop a few years back, and it took care of everything.
Cannot guarantee that it will fix your problem though.

Give Malwarebytes or SUPERAntiSpyware a try, both are free and trusted software. They might be able to delete the threat.

If they don't do the trick you could give Combofix a go as a last resort.

Thanks guys. Tried the Malwarebytes before I left the house this morning and it caught 25 items, but it doesn't look like it got them all. Still have sponsored links showing up. Will try the others when I get home. For now I shut the computer down instead of putting it in sleep mode like I normally do.

Alright, used all 3 programs and it's helped (the Trojan seems to be gone) but still a bunch of adware that won't go away, seem to only be showing up on these forums though, nowhere else...

Edit: Seems it was in my Chrome extensions. Deleted it from there, and no ads so far. Will report back if it returns.

I had that, If you have CCleaner, it might just be some programs you can uninstall without trouble.

Been listing stuff on eBay for a couple hours, doing some other browsing and nothing has come back so pretty sure it's all gone. Internet has sped up a bit too. 👍
