help with g27 steering wheel mod!

$61.00 ! and that doesn't include shipping !

You should try ebay, thats where I found the place that'll cut mine.

Do a search for "laser cutting services" and you should be able to find one, I'll do a AutoCad drawing for you probably this time tomorrow and send it to you.

edit, ah, what the hell, heres a rough one, let me know what you think, I figure you need some room for the thumbs so you can't have the buttons too close to the but you hold onto, I'm only guessing though as I haven't made mine yet !

Also, you'd need to decide what type of switches you are going to use to get the hole size right, nothing is ever straight forward !

Great idea. I just have one concern, looks like in order to use those buttons you won't be able to keep your hands on the wheel.

you dont need both hands at the wheel at ALL times. i'll just press whichever button i need to press during a straightaway or something.. lol

Where would you suggest the buttons go?

Unless you are going to completely construct a wheel from scratch, you won't be able to get the buttons in a position like in say an F1 wheel, even then, some of those buttons require one hand to leave the wheel.

If they can cope with it in real life I'm sure we'll cope in GT5 !

@Revelation, that is the sort of place I'm talking about, but if you can get one that cuts Aluminium or even Acrylic it would be better than wood, not any more expensive either.

Im not trying to put your idea down at all ( i think its awesome)
Just saying maybe you can get it closer to the wheel, thats all.

Now im thinking to put those 4 red buttons from the shifter unit onto my g25/g27 thanks to your idea (not sure what to do with the wires)

For the wires on mine, I'm planning on using some sort of D-Sub connector, like the ones you get on a monitor cable, best solution I can think of for now, only because my wheel is detachable.

Since the wheel will only do the full 300 degrees spin on initial power up it can easily be disconnected and then re-connected once the wheel has finished calibrating.

The other option, if you don't have a removable wheel, would be to route the cables inside the G27 and follow the path the origional cables take for the buttons on the wheel, would require opening up the wheel though.

We do laser cut plate and tube at work... If you want something on the west coast PM me. I've made quite a few shiny SS things for myself at good prices.

That is just awesome. Thinking about doing this meself :)

How bout the LED's?

wow that looks REALLY good! is that metal or plastic? i would do that but i suck at wiring! and a diy would help coz i dont want to just wing it with a 300 dollar wheel!

The Chilicoke adapter is machined...We don't do that... We do 3d tube laser stuff, and flat laser. I made this a few months ago:

It's 3/8" 18/8 Stainless. It was about 70$. I think you could fit about 2 sets of paddles, and one of those steering wheel button plates on that sheet. We do have some aluminum sheet also, should be cheaper than the INOX. Thing with the steel is that you need to get it heat treated because it's very soft.

It's plastic, I made some instructions on my site.

I only have the G25, so I don't need to worry about the LED's, but I do need to worry about getting buttons wired onto it !

I''m planning on using that curly cable they use in real race cars, I've added a few more buttons, 14 in all, to the plate now.

I've decided to transfer all the buttons from the G25 shifter onto the wheel, because I never used the one's on the shifter because they were so awkward to get at !
