Haven't been online in quite a bit , but as GT6 demo runs on my PS3 for the last couple of hours I can't help myself feeling a bit disappointed.
I've been with the GT series from the very start , running GT one on my PS1 while barely understanding the menu , but I loved cars and I LOVED Gran Turismo.
As I grew older my expectations rose as well , I have been playing LFS and "tweaking around" with it for 5 years now and despite its obvious advantage in terms of physics and sound my love for Gran Turismo never faded. Each summer meant that me and my friend would get another shot at completing some of the GT4s and GT5s 24hr endurance events. I developed a strong case of fanboyism on the way , around the age of 15 I was text book example of the kid claiming to have had sex with your mothers online.
I gave the series everything I had and today I feel that my love for that game was nothing other but my ridiculously low expectations. I still remember trying the GT HD for the first time somewhere around 2007 and being so hyped that for the first time in the GT series you could power slide an LSD equipped car somewhat realistically . I mean its goddamn 2007 and they give us powersliding and I am nose over heels in love with it , couldn't wait to get my own PS3 .
Just to be straight nothing on the sony console comes close to it ( don't know about the Forza because I never had enough time with it ) but I feel like some things are left untouched while priority is given to unnecessary stuff.
So here comes my grain of salt considering the GT5/6 case.
GT5 was and still is a good game , I have over 20k km on it and still running it here and there ( Nordschleife all the way ) but some things just don't make sense to me . So here you are , spent huge amounts of money and time on developing games graphic and physics engine , you are so close to releasing a goddamn masterpiece but you decide to include the worst career mode GT series has seen so far. Such a shame , I have more hours on the GT4 just because I felt that it's gameplay was so much more addicting.
On the end of the day , you end up with a game with piece of **** gameplay and simulator with 75% of simulators physics , all that cooped up with long annoying loading times.
Regarding the physics , what use of all that beautiful tracks and cars when braking has NO RELATION WHAT SO EVER to braking an actual car , every car has air brakes , at least it seems so with ABS set to 1 , turn of the ABS and default break bias is 5:5 and in GT6 demo you can't even change it , you are entering the turns with your rear wheels LOCKED , sure it looks good but come on now , cars don't do that. Breaking is so bad that on a new track I can't estimate good braking distance at all , with ABS 1 there SHOULD BE ABS , goddamn LFS has done it good with team of 5 people coming to work every other day.
Clutch is awful , just awful , sounds in 95% also are , again we have beautiful 7.1 sound support but actual sounds suck , WHY DID YOU JUST WHY . But I can get around that , I can understand that , what I don't understand is why did they come so close and then while just a few elegant touches away from a masterpiece decided it is as good as it can be.
I feel that the game could be 200% of what it is today with just a few cheap and quick changes , for example , we have over 200 cars with some kind of semi automatic gearbox , why not making VW DSG shift a bit slower than the Ferrari F1 systems?
And now with GT6 I expected all that little things that were broken to be fixed but evidently that is not the case.
Why bother going to the gym , running for a whole year , finally get the girl of your dreams on a date but hey man I didn't have time to wash my ****ing teeth.
I thought that the moment I get my license I would leave the simulator world behind me , as things haven't worked out the way I expected and I'm still some time away from filling my garage with GT3s and Superdukes I remain loyal to the GT series and hope for the best . Also I would like to thank anyone who stuck around till the end of the post and apologize for my english as it's not my first language.
