A Rotary engine wouldn't be able to fit in a Miata, that's why.

A Rotary will not fit in a Miata, unless you rip out half of your interior. Even then, it ain't a Miata anymore. You'll handle slightly better then an Excursion.![]()

I stand by my facts. Sorry.
From Miata.net:
Can I put a V6/V8/Rotary engine in my Miata?
With enough modifications, generally anything can be done. Monster Motorsports is known for their Ford 5.0 V8 conversion., With a turbo/supercharger their Miatas can develop over 300HP! Rotaries present a problem, however. The form factor just will not lend itself to dropping into a Miata engine bay. The gearbox linkages just won't fit without major modification to the interior as well as the engine bay.
Our personal opinion: With a V8 engine, it's no longer a Miata. It may look like one, and it may be fast as all getout, but it won't handle like one. And the Miata is known for its handling.
