I swear you people get dumber each and everyday

I would love to see a wankel engine in a Miata, any pics?

From Miata.net:

With a turbo/supercharger their Miatas can develop over 300HP! Rotaries present a problem, however. The form factor just will not lend itself to dropping into a Miata engine bay. The gearbox linkages just won't fit without major modification to the interior as well as the engine bay.

That's just it: People are making the necessary modifications to the gearbox (or flat out replacing it; a good idea since the new engine probably won't be under 200HP). Beyond the gearbox and some larger, beefed-up engine mounts, a rotary will fit. Period. As for the the necessary changes to the interior...I'm sorry, that just defies logic. It's not like you're putting a Cadillac V-16 in there. You're putting in a smaller engine. This, combined with a re-worked (or replaced) gearbox, leaves lots of room for adjusting the exact location of your choice 13B.

And yes, start an argument without either facts or any form of logical thought, and it quickly goes nowhere. :D

And, yes, I would put a tubo'd 13B in my Miata...if I were actually a Miata fan...and if I had the money. :)

Ok here is how it works:

1. shift linkages would NOT have to be modified at all. Use the stock transmission and your transmission stays EXACTLY where it was before (remember, RWD, not FWD)

2. The only thing that would need to be "changed" is the motor mounts.

3. Rotary engines are CHEAP. I have a 2 rotar engine sitting in my friends garage. I just don't have a use for it to justify the 100 for new apex seals. (I have wholesale connections)

4. The rotary would be an awesome choice for people looking for a track car, with no timing it is a breze to setup, and there is no revlimilt. I think stock someone ran it up to 30,000RPM w/o difficuly, then started to run into problems with fuel consumtion :D

Death, Rebuild 13B N/A('86-'91) engines from Mazda are over 3K, my dad with his discount got one for $2200(he was lucky, there was a 2 week period in '96 when Mazda ran out of rebuilds and sold about 20 new engines, and he got 1). Now, a 3rd gen 13B Twin Turbo would be at least 5K.

Ohh and there is a rev limit on rotaries Death. Over revving causes a lot of heat in the housings which could and does wear out the chrome of the housings. Don't try to tell me that the incredibly loud overrev alarm means nothing. Try taking any RX-7 and just over rev it and see what happens, and hopefully it's not your car and the owner doesn't know that you just cost him several thousand dollars.

I've seen over-revved RX-7s up at my dad's shop, my dad even brought home 2 housings that were over revved on, and the crome was discolored and worn a lot. It was out of an RX-7 that was autocrossed and the owner over revved it regularly thinking that nothing would happen.

From Miata.net:

Can I put a V6/V8/Rotary engine in my Miata?
With enough modifications, generally anything can be done. Monster Motorsports is known for their Ford 5.0 V8 conversion., With a turbo/supercharger their Miatas can develop over 300HP! Rotaries present a problem, however. The form factor just will not lend itself to dropping into a Miata engine bay. The gearbox linkages just won't fit without major modification to the interior as well as the engine bay.

Our personal opinion: With a V8 engine, it's no longer a Miata. It may look like one, and it may be fast as all getout, but it won't handle like one. And the Miata is known for its handling.

1mic: If you don't like my help, why didn't you PM MazKid yourself instead of a thread. You don't want my help, then fine, you won't get it again.

why would i listen to 15 yr old BENCH racer, my auto teacher's friend is a Rotary head and can make 2 rotaries fit in a corvette...
noob    i aint gonna take advice from some1 who just reads **** and hasnt seen it in real life

oh yeah i made a thread like this so others would put there 2 cents into the subject: rotaries in a miata

but since my bro know's nothing about rotaries in General, were thinking about nissan, 240 sx!!!

For those who say this Rotary Engine Sucks, Have they ever driven one?

Oh yea has anyone got a link/info :computer: about the rotary Engines? I wouldn't mind learning more about em 💡

I have too say, interesting thread you guys got going on here. It is a possibility to do the swap and it is not too expensive to do it. it took me a total of 6.5 grand including the car in that total to do the swap. It also depends if you are going to do it yourself or have a shop do it for you. I think for a Miata this would be the best thing to do to it if you hunger for speed. By the way reading a little back in this thread I saw someone say that you needed to move the dash back and some more body mods to do a rotary engine swap. That is true, but only with a 3-rotor engine. Trust me, I looked into it before I did this swap.
