High School

We had two state police units at our school today. I'm not sure what for. Normally we just have one or two local units there, but not today.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm pretty sure it was three state units.

Day two was definitely more interesting than yesterday. Not as many seniors dressed up, but those who did went all out. Tomorrow is football for the seniors so its time to break out the Black and Blue paint and dress like I'm going to a Carolina Panthers game.

Well, the theme of the show is pretty much the before, during, and after of a hurricane... Not sure if that answers your question
So for now I'll just call it "The Storm". We're doing a show called "From the Ashes We Rise" which basically covers the story of Genesis and sounds like a fight between Angels and Demons.

How many marchers do you have? We're right around 180

This year's band is about 60 or so odd members. It usually has 80-90, but the orchestra program really wound up hurting the band. The band is still rebuilding from that, and it probably won't hit 80 again for years. Speaking of the band, I'll be watching them perform tonight at a local invitational event. Ironically, they are performing in a city that I drive through to get to college.

Here is a potato recording of the first three movements of our show this year. The fourth movement wasn't clean enough to march yet, plus we're under pretty heavy time constraints.

Picture day today. Wasn't aware. Came to school wearing a grey T-shirt and camouflage pants.

Not like it matters much. Only pictures worth dressing up for are during Senior year.

Well, today the seniors dominated again showing the most school spirit. Tomorrow is a special day though, going to be 18 and my friends are throwing a small party in the morning, plus we have to dress up for hip hop, but I don't know how to dress up for hip hop lol.

Since you'll probably be busy being bombarded with "happy birthday" this and gifts and whatever you could do, happy early birthday.

School spirit? What's that?

My school has zero spirit except for at football games where it has a theme, like blackouts (Wear all-black clothes), camo (Self-explanatory), and one time everybody dressed in the same color the teachers/staff/security were wearing, forcing the staff members to get shirts in a different color.

Sounds like my school.

Does anyone remember the part in Fahrenheit 451 where
Montag is reading the Bible on the train but he can't remember anything? He compares it to grains of sand falling through a strainer.

That's basically me... with everything.
I hated that bloody book with a passion... The story line could not keep my attention, the wife was just a pure b**ch, it all got worse when the house burned down...

the only thing that I actually thought was interesting was that paper burns at 451 F...

Don't even talk about Animal Farm....

But college is 10x more boring, as you read 10x more essays, and it all depends on the teacher/professor...
So far, i've read how embalming is done, expertise on dumpster diving, social security collecting, why dumps aren't open to the public eye, why African-American's profile themselves (including various other groups), and a crap load of other boring topics...

I personally do not care for Ray Bradbury's stories, but this is one of my favorite books. I enjoyed it because it's very relatable to today's society (Not many books we read were relatable, which made it harder to understand and concentrate) and it's crazy how Ray Bradbury predicted things like the earbuds.

To be honest, we never read that book in any of my classes, and I'm a senior.

the earbuds.... i hated the earbuds... reading this story freshman year was just a middle finger to the face for me.. After 4th grade i was redistricted to a different school, so it was pack up and meet knew friends. Then everyone from that school went to different junior high's than I did (other than about ten others). Then after junior high it was on to high school where everyone from k-4th grade all meet back up again..

so back to reading this story... meeting everyone again after 4-5 years, it was quite obvious people forget you, some just don't care for other things... as the wife, didn't really seem to give two cents for her husband.

end rant/

Ooh! My favorite! :D

Well, I watched the band play at a local invitational event today. I have to say that they impressed me with how much they got done in such a short time period. I also heard that the official number for the band is 72 which is bigger than I thought it was. It was nice getting in for free too since I helped out as a band volunteer.

Interesting morning today. Someone brought a dead rabbit in from outside and threw it in the middle of the one hallway. :boggled:

Makes me think about 2011 (my junior year) when the Seniors let a bunch of crickets into the building along with a slew of other things- such as when they made a pyramid in the cafeteria along with other crazy ideas.

That's just disgusting. He more than likely wasn't wearing anything over his hands, so any diseases the rabbit had are on his hands. Next, it's a dead, rotting body IN A HALLWAY.
I don't think he was wearing anything over his hands, but the custodial staff took care of the body pretty quickly.
I swear that in the next few years, the term "High School" will be synonymous with "Animal House".
You might just be correct.

Crickets?

I guess that just proves that any jokes the teachers say are terrible. :sly:

Well, that was the first time I ever saw my principal just go off on a tirade. I mentioned a few posts back that I knew the principal and his daughter, and most of the time, he is a very laid back guy. That year also started with a couple kids getting caught doing something they shouldn't have, and the letter that got sent out at the end of the first week (which happens annually at my high school) included the pun of "the week started off with a bang" as a direct response to the incident I brought up directly before the quote.
