Historic Car Cup?

As I'm going through the game, I'm finding it hard to beat the historic cup most of all. Any suggestions on what car(s) to use, or whatever car(s) you guys beat it with?

The Historic race at Rome is one of the toughest in GT2, as you can tell. Grindelwald is easier, matter of fact. You can do it with any car, so long as you're within 10 to 15 hp of the limit. Racing gear helps immensely. (you know, when you buy the aerodynamic bodywork that costs 80,000 cr).

I've beat the GT40 at Rome in the '71 Datsun 240Z, '71 Nissan Skyline, Toyota 2000GT, '93 Civic, and several other cars. You basically have to take all the turns perfectly...with just the minimum amount of brakes necessary and no mistakes. The GT40 will still catch up to you on the straights but if you're really good it won't pass you.

When I was a newb, I blocked it down the straights or kept resetting my game till no GT40 showed up. Now that I'm more experienced, I can do this race at Rome like a pro. It's one hell of an adrenaline boost once you get the hang of it.

Win the RX-7 GT-C. I can't remember off the top of my head where you win it. But it will do the job with just a gearbox/flywheel/clutch. Then tweek the trans for acceleration.
You will be able to beat the damn GT40, but not by much.

Yaah. You can never beat it by very much unless you're JMac. :)

'Istoric car cup you say?
I used... did I even do that?
Where do you win the GT40? Because I think thats what I used.

No. Surprisingly, you cannot enter your own GT40 in the race at Rome. It is yet another GT2 oddity. The race limit is 295, and the tested hp of a GT40 is 310, yet somehow the game allows an AI GT40 in the field.

Hey y'all, check out this thread.

It may be of some help.

Mugen Civic Type R:rolleyes:

..not exactly “historic” by definition...but it'll do. :) Where I'm from, a car has to be 20 or 25 years old (I forget) before you can put historic tags on it.

LOL good point but, correct me if I'm wrong, you were the one who suggested a '93 Civic Si :D

Here's a challenge, try beating the big bad GT40 with the Tommy Kaira ZZIII. Fully tuned, only hits 276 hps, but its light as a feather just over 1300 lbs. I couldn't do it, but my friend just did it right in front of me.

I used a Nissan Silva K's with mods, if you can't beat the gt40, restart until it's not there

I used a Lancia Stratos and had no problems, but I did use Racing Super Softs.

I believe I beat the GT40 using the Startos, but with a hard/soft combination of tires. It wasn't easy though.

Yeah, I used soft or super-soft...hard tires definitely make a more challenging experience. BTW, good to see you posting here, TMM..see, isn't GT2 fun? :D All the different cars? Sorry.

I have beaten the GT40 with a tuned Lotus Europa to comply with race regulations.
Originaly I used a WRX. I figured if the AI cheats so can I.

Yeah that's how I was at first...that's why I used to block the GT40 when it tried to pass me. But once I put a race-kit on my car and full-custom suspension, all the rules changed!

BTW, congrats on winning with a Europa. That's a toughie, I bet.

It was hard on the front and soft the rear, tires that is. Soft for grip and hard so that I can slide the front of the car into the corner. I have posted here before PB, but it doesn't change my opinon of GT2.

I used a dodge charger :)
Well i think i did... lol 251 hp is had. Made it real drifty... seemed to work for me.

Really? Are you sure the GT40 was there?
